12°F and light snow this morning, going up to 21°, then back down to low single digits again tonight. Just a light dusting of snow passed through early in the morning, not even 1/4".

Wife finally started taking down the Xmas decorations yesterday. Been too cold here to get out and do it until now.

Stay warm, fellas.

When I served on the Grand Jury, there was no process of picking jurors...everyone called was to serve. I was disappointed in the overall process...not a lot of evidence presented and seemed like almost a rubber stamp of the prosecution's case to send to trial...but a different threshold applied...not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt...instead, does a preponderance of the evidence indicate a need for a trial.

It's the same in Texas. I never served on the grand jury, but I testified a few times. It usually took me as much as 20 or 30 seconds.

Question for northerners, I have a short dog (chihuahua), how do short female dogs go outside to do their business if the snow is taller than their underbelly? Is that why all northern dogs have long legs? What a dilemma...

When snow is deeper than Muffins legs she does circle dance to clear a spot. When it gets above her chin she goes into periscope mode. Nose straight up. But still does the circle dance to clear a spot. Even if that does not work. If you got to go, you got to go.

7° at sunny 9:10

Took awhile to catch up on the morning.
Ed, hope all get better, and you sneak a nap in.

rs, glad you didnt stick to the seat. I've been going out in the cold with just sweat pants on. Wind blows thru them.

Randy, hope you miss the flu. I worry about it going to my doctor appointments.

Speaking of that, Mine wants me to come in monday, and we have wintry weather predicted then, but i made the appointment. One thing i left out of my good news call from last night, he needs to change something before the new healing period. I hope it goes well, i mean, what can go wrong at this point (sarcasm).

Rip, glad the wife is moving around, too bad about the barn. My county had several house fires in the last week or so.

Speaking of hiking in cold weather, our scouts left on an AT backpack hike once, the high was 0, and it was windy, and the AT is mostly at the top of the ridge. Fortunately my son got sick and had to drop out, so i also dropped out. I helped transport them, and when one slipped and hurt himself, i went back to retrieve a scout. But the rest did the hike. Slept in one of the opensided shelters, all piled on top of each other to stay warm. Another trip was the day of an icestorm, they ventured out, started hiking on the AT, but quit because everyone kept falling, everything was pure ice.

I did do a 10 mile AT hike in the snow once, was really nice. Now i just dream about those things.

We have been below freezing since christmas. It hit 33 on christmas. We might get above again monday, and maybe in 40s by next wed.

I have 4 wheel drive vehicles, if snow is less than 6", i wait for nature to clear it.

Partly cloudy this morning with a low of 23*, it made it up to the low 50's yesterday and no wind. Today is going to be sunny by the afternoon and back in the 50's.
They are saying a chance of lite snow tomorrow night. Then back to the 40's the rest of the coming week.

Neighbor dropped off some shop lights last night that he got from work. Not sure what kind of lights they are, I'll take a look at them and see if I can use them.
Not much else planned for today.

Hope everyone stays warm and gets healthy.
CWB.

white knuckle drive to the other side of town, not a drive I had planned on making, but my propane tank is below half and calls to company just go into answering machine.
We had six inches of snow, and no plowing whatsoever. So all the snow is packed down now into long stretches of ice. Too cold to melt, and not much salt being put down. Went about 22-25 mph all the way. Some folks going 5mph caused the whole line to pass them, dangerous.

Got to propane company, asked them why they hadn't come in December in the nice weather. Manager admitted they were way behind, operational issue and they were dealing with runouts and folks under 10 percent. Anyone who has a propane fired gen know they don't work well with low supply levels, so this is not good. Hopefully they will show up on Monday.
Very disappointing, first year I did pre-buy and now I'm chasing them to deliver product I've already paid for. Not sure I'm going to do this again.

But on the much brighter side, things are popping up! Onions are starting to sprout and one little container of mixed lettuce is growing a full inch a day. Of course the grow light is right on top of it. I also made good progress on my new garden's electric fence; made a post to hold the battery and charger, using an older UTV battery I had which still works fine. And not hugely heavy.
I wonder if I can put a solar charger on the battery...hmmmm. Made it easy to take off and haul back to the barn to get charged.

Good morning! 40˚ partly cloudy, slight wind from the south, heading to the high 50's. A good day to get on the z and mow the dead weeds down.
I think I'll work on the landing strip today. It's not really quite long enough to land on but it provides a view of one of my ponds as you are driving up the drive way. When the utility company was clearing their right of way of mesquite with a front end mulched I paid them extra to make the strip. I'll see if I can get a before and after pic. I've been picking up thorns for 3 years so this will be the fist time I'll attempt to drive on it with air tires. I hardly ever get flats. (sarcasm).

Buckeye Good plan to give the body a chance to heal. I checked my BH bucket bolt, it's secure.
Get some sleep Ed.
Randy I thought everyone in a nursing home has to have the flu vaccine.
ETW, is your new tractor going to have a cab?

They do all get the shot, but one strain that turned up prevalent has poor coverage in certain age groups.

Rescued a kitten snowed under the porch this morning, her mom was following me through the snow desperately meowing, I stopped and listened and heard Sassy through the few holes that weren’t covered. I dug down beside the steps and used the handle to punch out under them. Out pops the 7 month old, been there a couple of days I guess. She joined Mom and headed to the deck box that has the food.

Drew brings up another reminder about why i switched from oil heat to geothermal, dealing with supply companies. Oil was dirt cheap when i built, many companies would only service "their" customers, meaning you had to sign a delivery contract with them, or prebuy fuel. You could not price shop during the heating season and get delivery from the lowest provider. Then they wanted maintenance contracts also. Then there were delivery issues.
So when oil prices went skyhigh, i switched and never looked back.
Last yr got a price to put in gas fireplace, well actually a partial price. The fireplace company would only install the unit. I had to get a propane company to set tank, do the gas hookup, blah blah. I don't have an existing fireplace, so i also had to get someone to build the box on the house for it to go in, and do the inside finish work. This was going to turn into a $15k job so i passed. That alone will cover my electric bill for the next 12 yrs, and then i would have propane price on top of that. Burning pellets is much less dependent on others, i can buy off season, i have space to store them..
