Good morning!!!!

L4N, that sure is expensive living so far away from "civilization", the price you pay... I filled up for $2.33 a gallon yesterday, almost exactly half that price.
Of course David/Sodamo has us all beat likely. And not a race you want to win for sure...;)
But if it gets you to Paradise....well. And we all have our own paradise, the North Woods, the seacoast of Maine, living on stilts in Key West.
I'll pass on the igloo in Alaska though...
I'm not anywhere near Alaska. Igloos are warm.:)

Good morning! I have a sick boy with fever. Waiting for 8AM to call and get a dr appt.

L4N, how far north in Northern Ontario? Can you see Santa's place? Is he keeping the elves busy?

Hope all of you have a blessed day.

Hopefully the boy recovers quickly.

North Bay, Ontario. A long way from the North Pole. ;)

Don, I hear the faint smattering of rain on the new metal roof as I type. We need it, but I was hoping to get some tractoring done today while tending my sick son.

30°F and clear skies, going up to 48° today. Cold this morning, but no frost.

Heard yesterday afternoon that one person died in the shooting near our facility. Police had the intersection closed until almost 3pm. Found this story this morning. One of the sad realities of life in St. Louis. There is violence like this pretty much every night, but it usually doesn't happen in the middle of the day. Talking yesterday with one of my coworkers who grew up in this neighborhood, and even he is stunned at the level of violence here in the last few years.

I cannot imagine living like that. Makes me even more appreciative of the peace and relative solitude we have where we live.

The overnight low was a warm 44*, the high yesterday was was 58*. They are still saying we'll get rain and snow overnight in to the afternoon Friday with wind 20-30 mph.

One of the neighbors needs a ride in to town this morning to get his truck. Not much else going on today.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Sad that whole neighborhoods seem to perpetuate that counter culture.

Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 7:30AM. Cloudy with showers. High 52F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Don, "veterans" of many meetings at the Salton Sea say the smell this year was much less than previously, and to me it wasn't much different than what you'd find at a Pacific beach. Apparently the big fish kills happened in the past few years, and the lake is now dead, no more fish in it. Worse, the two creeks that feed it have now been diverted, so the level will slowly drop. Being only a few feet deep, I don't think it will take long to empty it, leaving years of agricultural runoff pollutants free to boil off in huge dust clouds, as has been happening in the Eastern Sierra at Owen's Lake. That lake was dewatered by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, but the dust got so bad the state has ordered them to put some of the water back to control the dust. Another case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.

I've heard several stories like yours, Randy, where a life event triggers a change in Social Security status, and the agency discovers errors in previous payments. The mind boggles at the callousness sometimes displayed at such times, and it has resulted in lawsuits in order to straighten things out. I hope in your case a simple clerical error will be corrected and things will be back to normal.

We had another mass shooting in the north state day before yesterday. A man with known psychological problems killed his wife then went on a rampage at the elementary school. Two kids were shot but are expected to recover; five adults died. The shooter was also killed. Turns out he had a restraining order already on him because he'd stabbed his neighbor a few days before, and should not have had access to any weapons. Somehow they didn't get confiscated, and this is the result. The most recent crop of anti-gun laws prohibits school staff from carrying licensed *******s, leaving these teachers and kids with little choice but to hunker down and hope the killer didn't have the strength to kick in a locked door. Such laws may seem to make sense when there's a policeman on every corner, but it took Highway Patrol and Sheriff's Deputies over fifteen minutes to respond to this remote community. As expected, the blood has barely dried and there are calls coming out of Sacramento for even more gun control. What good will more laws do when the existing laws are not being enforced in time to prevent such tragedies?

I make an effort to avoid freeways on these motorcycle trips, at least in rural areas. That means I get to see lots of farming. The area around Mecca was big on vegetable and date farming, and there was lots of spray irrigation and tractoring going on. North of there around Victorville I came across a huge John Deere, the kind with two eight foot high wheels on each corner, nearly on its side with the right wheels down in a ditch. Lots of heavy equipment surrounded it trying to pull it out. I would not want to be the farm hand that put it there!

Finished the bearing holder for the wheel truing stand yesterday and will try it out this morning. Then off to town for groceries and a progress check at the mechanic's. If there's been none, I'll discuss the offer I've had to sell the incomplete engine and make arrangements to pick up the van.

Hang in there, gang. Friday's comin'!

A update for you all that don't see much snow, if any. It is snowing out and has been for the past hour or so. Accumulation about 1/2" so far.

In a couple of hours I will go out and bend over the hood of my Jeep so the gas company can 'stick it to me' yet again.

65°F and another .95 inches rain last 24 hours. More of the same forecast.

Got some power washing in between the downpours, likely more of the same today.

A bit of research shows some concrete sealers that went previously available - promising.

Need to start thinking about Big T-Day only a week away. Invites out, probably about 40 folks gonna show up. Seriously thinking about brining the bird this year.

Stay safe
Have a great day.

David, I started brining my turkeys about 5 years ago, really make a difference in moistness of the white meat IMHO.
