35F now low 40's for high w/rain snow mix.

Still not use to losing an hour of day light. :(

Enjoy the day all.

48/60 today then colder, then warmer, then colder.
Got a letter from SS yesterday, unrelated to my wife’s passing, telling me they’d been paying me too much and were basically cutting my benefit in half! Gotta make an appointment to see what that’s about. When it rains it pours!

Drinking first cup of coffee. 36° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 39 with mostly cloudy skies. Got all the parts for speed reducer made. Now I need time to put it together. La Crosse weather station for some reason has stated to work. Need to mount wind and rain sensor today. Need to shut garden pond pump down and remove all the filters today. Then pickup last of yard ornaments that cannot stay out the winter. That should keep me busy most of the day.
Drew, I really like my F series JD. 2 things I wish I had gotten. 4wd and rear discharge mower. I would have to look at JD again since my Kubota dealer is now almost 40 miles away. I have 3 Commercial JD dealers less than 15 miles away.
Randy, still sending good thoughts your way. SS screw up? Hope that gets straightened out.
Good Morning All.

Good morning!
34 going down to 30 and 'periods of rain or snow'. Wind ESE 2mph.

I gotta go to the butchers today, so I will have to bite the bullet and pay out $1.239/Litre of gas. That works out not including exchange to $4.68/US gallon. YUK! I am going to need about 20 gallons to fill it. I don't normally let my tank get this low, but I had an extra run to North Bay last week and no extra money for gas, then. The good thing is that I have a $0.07/L coupon so in actuality I will be paying $1.169/L.

Have a good day all.

Eric that last photo reminds me of my Grandpas out house. (bathroom) he had one smaller hole and one larger hole. Yours could seat an entire family.

or

A stockade for a two headed person.

or

A stockade for two people that were arrested for fighting and you lock them up side by side and each has one hand to continue to beat each other.

Don, step 1 is to recognize the problem ... :D

Yea, I have completed step one by posting the problem. There is only one step, right.

There is this toaster over that can do everything my air frier does and has a proof setting for my homemade bread . . . .

Oh by the way, my wife says that she would not have bought any of the appliances except the Instant Pot (which we have 3 of) - as she eats air fried french fries and dehydrated kale chips. Hypocrite.

L4N, that sure is expensive living so far away from "civilization", the price you pay... I filled up for $2.33 a gallon yesterday, almost exactly half that price.
Of course David/Sodamo has us all beat likely. And not a race you want to win for sure...;)
But if it gets you to Paradise....well. And we all have our own paradise, the North Woods, the seacoast of Maine, living on stilts in Key West.
I'll pass on the igloo in Alaska though...

Thanks. Local JD is only big Ag, I feel lost in there. Definitely Rear Discharge, but I'm so flat here I don't need 4wd at all.
It adds thousands in cost too. The question is whether I sell my JD diesel garden tractor. Always like having backup...plus I use it for lots of things other than
mowing. Last time I sold something I didn't think I'd need any more I almost immediately regretted it. A bush hog. Just had to buy a new one, though much smaller.
But the JD is worth a lot of money still, only 450 hours and three years old. Assuming I do get the new mower, I'll make sure it does what I want it to and then will probably put the JD
in CraigsList in the Spring. With the new small Massey, I have enough pulling devices and might be time to simplify a bit. Plus these F mowers are seriously expensive tools which the JD was and I'd like to apply the value of the old mower to the new. Maybe my way of justifying it. Paying five figures annually for help, payback here is in less than four years if I cut current help
in half. That's good ROI for me. I just need to pace myself better than I did before. Not try to do it all at one time.

Good morning! 64˚cloudy heading to 75˚.
With heavy clouds yesterday I did not do tractor work and it looks like it could rain any minute today also, so more caulking under the porch areas.

Drew, good news your tooth is finally healing.
Randy, hope SS is making another mistake.

Good morning! I have a sick boy with fever. Waiting for 8AM to call and get a dr appt.

Eric, nice little town. Wonder what the population of Teslas is there? Also, the does the item in the last photo keep the scalawags away?

Drew and Ron, years ago, there was an F series diesel at our shop getting an engine rebuild. I asked why, and was told the rear discharge can cause an extreme amount of dust to get to the engine, and that the owner or filtration had failed to do their part. They said side chute is much better for dusty conditions. To each their own. I would love to have one. Ron has had his for years. Drew, just remember that heat in July and August when making your final decision.

Ed, hope back gets better. When we were younger and sick, you could at least watch old episodes of Perry Mason during the day.

Wngsprd, you have the energy of a young boy.

Randy, still praying for you. We all know there will be tough moments. And that is OK. Grief is tough, but I believe that it is directly proportional to the amount of love there was. Make plans with friends and family to share love. Reminisce about funny moments.

L4N, how far north in Northern Ontario? Can you see Santa's place? Is he keeping the elves busy?

Hope all of you have a blessed day.

I'm not anywhere near Alaska. Igloos are warm.:)

Don, I hear the faint smattering of rain on the new metal roof as I type. We need it, but I was hoping to get some tractoring done today while tending my sick son.

30°F and clear skies, going up to 48° today. Cold this morning, but no frost.

Heard yesterday afternoon that one person died in the shooting near our facility. Police had the intersection closed until almost 3pm. Found this story this morning. One of the sad realities of life in St. Louis. There is violence like this pretty much every night, but it usually doesn't happen in the middle of the day. Talking yesterday with one of my coworkers who grew up in this neighborhood, and even he is stunned at the level of violence here in the last few years.

I cannot imagine living like that. Makes me even more appreciative of the peace and relative solitude we have where we live.

The overnight low was a warm 44*, the high yesterday was was 58*. They are still saying we'll get rain and snow overnight in to the afternoon Friday with wind 20-30 mph.

One of the neighbors needs a ride in to town this morning to get his truck. Not much else going on today.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Sad that whole neighborhoods seem to perpetuate that counter culture.

Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 7:30AM. Cloudy with showers. High 52F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Don, "veterans" of many meetings at the Salton Sea say the smell this year was much less than previously, and to me it wasn't much different than what you'd find at a Pacific beach. Apparently the big fish kills happened in the past few years, and the lake is now dead, no more fish in it. Worse, the two creeks that feed it have now been diverted, so the level will slowly drop. Being only a few feet deep, I don't think it will take long to empty it, leaving years of agricultural runoff pollutants free to boil off in huge dust clouds, as has been happening in the Eastern Sierra at Owen's Lake. That lake was dewatered by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, but the dust got so bad the state has ordered them to put some of the water back to control the dust. Another case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.

I've heard several stories like yours, Randy, where a life event triggers a change in Social Security status, and the agency discovers errors in previous payments. The mind boggles at the callousness sometimes displayed at such times, and it has resulted in lawsuits in order to straighten things out. I hope in your case a simple clerical error will be corrected and things will be back to normal.

We had another mass shooting in the north state day before yesterday. A man with known psychological problems killed his wife then went on a rampage at the elementary school. Two kids were shot but are expected to recover; five adults died. The shooter was also killed. Turns out he had a restraining order already on him because he'd stabbed his neighbor a few days before, and should not have had access to any weapons. Somehow they didn't get confiscated, and this is the result. The most recent crop of anti-gun laws prohibits school staff from carrying licensed firearms, leaving these teachers and kids with little choice but to hunker down and hope the killer didn't have the strength to kick in a locked door. Such laws may seem to make sense when there's a policeman on every corner, but it took Highway Patrol and Sheriff's Deputies over fifteen minutes to respond to this remote community. As expected, the blood has barely dried and there are calls coming out of Sacramento for even more gun control. What good will more laws do when the existing laws are not being enforced in time to prevent such tragedies?

I make an effort to avoid freeways on these motorcycle trips, at least in rural areas. That means I get to see lots of farming. The area around Mecca was big on vegetable and date farming, and there was lots of spray irrigation and tractoring going on. North of there around Victorville I came across a huge John Deere, the kind with two eight foot high wheels on each corner, nearly on its side with the right wheels down in a ditch. Lots of heavy equipment surrounded it trying to pull it out. I would not want to be the farm hand that put it there!

Finished the bearing holder for the wheel truing stand yesterday and will try it out this morning. Then off to town for groceries and a progress check at the mechanic's. If there's been none, I'll discuss the offer I've had to sell the incomplete engine and make arrangements to pick up the van.

Hang in there, gang. Friday's comin'!

A update for you all that don't see much snow, if any. It is snowing out and has been for the past hour or so. Accumulation about 1/2" so far.

In a couple of hours I will go out and bend over the hood of my Jeep so the gas company can 'stick it to me' yet again.

65°F and another .95 inches rain last 24 hours. More of the same forecast.

Got some power washing in between the downpours, likely more of the same today.

A bit of research shows some concrete sealers that went previously available - promising.

Need to start thinking about Big T-Day only a week away. Invites out, probably about 40 folks gonna show up. Seriously thinking about brining the bird this year.

Stay safe
Have a great day.

David, I started brining my turkeys about 5 years ago, really make a difference in moistness of the white meat IMHO.
