I had a security light out last night just after dark, went to get a ladder and bumped the hitch on the tractor, got a big three cornered tip in my lower leg. I have a pocket of thin fat on that calf and it’s draining like a spigot. Glad my wife is a pro at such things. IMG_0001.JPG

Good morning! A cold front blew in from the North last night and temperatures plummeted to 64˚ this morning and will only get into the 70s today. Yea!

We had a VFD meeting last night and Hurricane Harvey finally did what I've been trying to do for the last 10 years. After Harvey forcefully moved the Fish Fry date to late September, instead of late August, no-one ever wants to work in the scorching August heat again. The Fish Fry will be changed to the last Saturday in September from now on.
Attendance and donations were up!! We even had to refund a dozen meal tickets because we ran out of fish after 1450 pates sold. This is in a cow field with the area's population about 200.

RNG hope the devastating fires stay away from you.

Don, saw that it was 37 in Amarillo this morning. Cool air just got here, it’s 67 degrees.

Glad that Harvey was good for something!

Good Morning!!!! 68F @ 7:30AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Mostly Sunny. High 78F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Glad the FF was a success, Don, and that cooler heads prevailed in moving the date for next year.

Yesterday's fires were all to the south of here, all except one which is still burning 6.5 miles to the northeast. This morning the Honey Fire is at 90 acres and 30% containment. It started yesterday afternoon after the winds had abated somewhat, so it's unlikely power lines were the cause. Still no official word on the cause of the other much larger fires to the south, but with the way the wind was blowing night before last and yesterday, my money's on power lines. Neighbors all around were reporting sparks and downed lines. Oroville is once again in trouble, with the Cherokee Fire to the north at 7500 acres and 40% containment and the La Porte fire to the south at 3500 acres and 5% containment. So far, the LaPorte fire has been the most destructive of the two, having swept through the tiny town of Bangor and burning down most of the buildings and homes there. Lots of smoke in the air this morning, blown here by gentle southerly breezes, the skies actually look overcast but it's not clouds. Highway 70 south of here is closed starting at the north side of Oroville south to the Butte County line, almost fifteen miles, for "Emergency Work". It's not due to reopen until Thursday morning. This is due to the Cascade Fire, 8200 acres and 10% contained, which is directly south of the La Porte fire (some sources say they have merged). All of these fires have resulted in evacuations and lost homes and businesses. Santa Rosa, pretty much at the north of the San Francisco Bay Area, was devastated by the Tubb Fire, losing some 1500 buildings; several people died.

I spent most of yesterday on the back porch sanding runs off of the saddle bags I painted last week, and power started flickering on and off in the late afternoon. I was able to finish buffing about dinner time, but then the power went off at about 8:30, coming on again, then going off again, several times until I just gave up and went to bed. It came back on again to stay at about 2 AM. I know because three so called "smart" light switches in the house turn the lights they control to full brightness when power is restored, and though none of them are in the master bedroom, enough light shown through the door to wake me.

Still have some touch up to do on the bags today, then I'll switch to cleaning wheels and engine/transmission cases. What fun!

67°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 81° today. Got some rain overnight, but not a lot. Some friends about 25 miles west of us reported golf ball size hail last night. Glad that missed us. More rain and potential storms expected in the area this afternoon.

Saw a fully engulfed house fire this morning while passing through Summerfield, IL, just at the eastern edge of town. Hope no one was injured.

Aaah yes, that cold front brought us just over a tenth of an inch of rain, a north breeze of 18 to 29 MPH, temperature of 53 going for a high of 68. I love it!

66F and partly cloudy @ 10:30, fog finally starting to burn off and sun starting to peak through. High today of 74F.

Actually got the rack/shelf built and put up in the garage yesterday ... feels good to actually complete something.

Also managed to to get the burn pile burnt last night. Had a bit of a time getting it started with all the rain we've had over the last couple of days, and it took awhile to really get going once it did start but it seemed to burn pretty quickly, considering the amount of wood there was. I started it around 19:30 and it was still going @ 23:00 when I decided to head down to the house and get out of the fog and mist.

Generally don't like to walk away from them while they are still burning ... but it was wet enough out that there was basically no chance it was going to spread. Still have a snot load more junk wood left to to burn. They are calling for 80% chance of rain tomorrow, so Wednesday night might be the next good opportunity to get rid of that.

A neighbor friend of The Woman's called on Sunday wanting to know if she could have a couple bucket loads of wood chips for mulch. Pretty funny on multiple counts: 1. the chips have been sitting up there in piles for months ... and she waits until I have incorporated them into the compost pile and mixed them with dirt to ask ... and 2. right on schedule Zack shows up and delivers three more loads of wood chips on after she calls ...

Looks like we have a 3 day stretch of dry weather coming up Thursday - Saturday, so will try to get caught up on the mowing then.

Today will probably work on moving the rest of the junk wood over to the burn pile and moving wood chips.

70°F and no rain

Guests arrived, a bit late but settled in. Nice couple here for a month looking for Property. Looking forward to getting to know them.

Prayers for California. Those fires are terrifying.

Be safe
Have a great day.

Beautiful blue sky's with white clouds passing by, 70 deg. It's to bad that such a nice day had to be marked by having to put one of my German Shepard's down. The only female but her health has been failing this morning she went to stand and just collapsed. Hard to put he down but could not let her suffer. Rest in peace my Bella! Until we meet again.
