RNG stay safe. Wish you had some of our water.

Thanks, Farmer, we could use some of that rain about now. But only some, as the burned areas don't have the trees and grass to hold the dirt in place any longer, and too much rain will start landslides.

Good Morning!!!! 54F @ 6:00AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Sunny. High 71F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.

Red Flag fire warnings up again for today and tomorrow, with a return of the same north winds that started all the fires Sunday night. Not supposed to be quite as strong this time around though. But containment numbers are still very low for the existing fires, so we could see a lot more damage over the next two days. Sure hope not. Only good thing is that the north wind will help blow the smoke out of here. It was so thick yesterday the sun disappeared an hour before sunset, and there were no clouds overhead.

Sorry about Bella, DS, always hard losing a loyal friend.

All those chips'll make some nice topsoil, RS. How long do you think it'll take?

Hope that leg heals quickly, Randy. Looks nasty!

It was easier to just repaint one of the bag lids than to touch it up, so I did that yesterday. I'll rub it out today and put everything back together, then try to find a place to put the finished saddlebags so they don't get scratched.

Also pulled the bearings out of the rear wheel and bead blasted the hub. Used a super fine 270 grit bead, fine as corn starch, and the hub looks new now. Wish I could say the same for the spokes, as it took off all the rust, but left lots of chrome flakes. I plan to rebuild the wheels with stainless steel spokes and nipples, but not until this winter, so that'll have to do for now.

Happy Hump Day everyone!

Good morning all. 70 this morning going to 77 with an 80% chance of showers. We have had a little over .10 of rain and hope to get more. Mother in law is coming foe her weekly visit and hope to get a little done on the pantry but lately have had more hoping than doing.

Don, There is a frost advisory up in northern TX.

Dab, Sorry to hear about Bella, Praying for you and your family.

Drew, Go ahead and get it you know you need it.

Have a great day, Ed

52°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 66° today. Much more October-ish weather for us today.

We got a fair amount of rain yesterday in the form of off-and-on showers, with some occasional heavy downpours.

Still haven't seen any news story about the house fire in Summerfield yesterday morning. While looking, though, I did find a story about the accident on Old US-50 at Summerfield a couple weeks ago. Apparently, one of the passengers was ejected and died. 37 years old. Wear your seat belts, kids.

69° and light rain.

72 and raining, hooray! Should get up to 78.

Thunderstorms started about 10pm and came through all night. We are close to 5 inches now...Farmer, I think your rain moved over here. Finally got a chance this morning to check whether my roof flashing caulk repair worked...no moisture detected on the ceiling :) Looking forward to hiking down to the creek after it gets light to see if our creek is flowing again. Also will check to see if the close lightning strike around midnight hit any trees along my trail. It was a loud one.

DABSGT, Sorry to hear Bella is gone. Hope you consider getting another pup soon.

Randy, how's your leg today?

Don, isn't it a real motivator to get work done when you know you are going to have company?
it seems to be healing OK but Lynn insisted I go see my doctor so I知 going at 11:15.

Woke to a nice rain this morning m first real rain in a couple of weeks. The high for the day was early this morning, upper 60’s now and damp with a northeast wind.

   / Good morning!!!! #63,168
63F and overcast @ 10:45, had 0.11 inches of rain since midnight. Looking at the radar, that's probably all we'll get this time around. High today predicted to be 69F.

Still trying to figure out what's on the menu today ...

toppop,

That sounds painful ... hope it heals up quick for you ...

DABSGT,

Sorry for the loss of your friend ... :(

Looks a lot like work. Lots of work.
Yeah ... so far I've been able to get away with mostly sitting on my butt on the tractor.

We'll see how it goes when I actually have to start chucking wood around by hand.

My neighbor has a burn pit he lets me use. I just took some old cabinets over there today. He is doing a lot of clearing on his property, and I think he likes playing with fire.
What's not to like ? :D

All those chips'll make some nice topsoil, RS.
They should ... the last pile sure did.

How long do you think it'll take?
I've heard as little as a couple of months, given adequate nitrogen ... although that may have been on a much smaller scale. No real idea how it would scale up, but in theory it should work.

The last chip pile I did (from when they cleared the area for the gas well) took quite a few years ... but I really didn't do anything to it - other than just let it sit there and decompose - like turning it or adding a source of nitrogen.

It will probably depend on whether I can come up with a good source of nitrogen, since the bacteria that breaks down the wood uses it.

I think the sheep manure/bedding from my neighbors barn would work well ... the last time I got some it still stunk to high heaven and it was probably 5 to 10 years old at that point. Very strong ammonia smell, from the urine I'd imagine. Apparently it doesn't breakdown all that quickly if you just leave it in a big pile

Why he doesn't spread it on his pasture I'll never know ... but then I can't imagine keeping 75 head of sheep without a tractor and a loader to clean out the barn either.

Biggest problem is getting it down here - there's a lot of it (40'L x 30'W x 3' - 4'H mebbe ?) and it's wet and heavy. Really need a dump truck ... which the neighbor next to him has, but I haven't asked if he'd be willing. He might be ... just to get that big sticky pile of sheep chit further away from his house ...

Hope you guys have some luck with those fires ... stay safe.

72°F and no rain

No big plans today, yet

Be safe
Have a great day

Rs, you got the market cornered on firewood and chips.
LOL ... to the point that I recently had an astounding revelation: I have enough that I can afford to waste some of it ...

All those odd size pieces that would be a pain to stack ?

The crotches that would a pain to split ?

Burn em ... and I don't mean in the stove.

I am fighting the steering tilt locking gas strut mechanism for the 5420's steering wheel. It is a bear just to get all the slightly rusted hardware apart. I made a small pin press out of a small c-clamp, but the 10mm dowel I was trying to press out of the bottom of the cylinder, was just a tad too rusty...I got my die grinder out with a 3" cut off wheel and fixed it. Why the heck they didn't just use a 10 mm bolt, I have no idea. I'm putting a bolt back in it's place.
I have similar situation I'm going to have to deal with to unpin the rear drive shaft to the front wheels on the kubota to replace the plastic cover on the shaft.

Not looking forward to it at all.

The low this morning was 22*, yesterday's high was 60*. A lot of sun today. The high will be back in the 60's, some wind but not bad.

Didn't see any Elk this morning. Will try again in a day or two.

Not much planned for the rest of the day.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

First cup of coffee has been poured. 51ー with steady rain this morning. Heading to 56ー with rain most of the day. Did not cut lawn yesterday. Maybe Friday after things dry out. Do not think it's going grow much with temperatures in the 50's/60's. Got a bunch of little jobs done though. Inside day. Somehow a stone hit one of the windows in kitchen. Serviceman should be out early afternoon to install new glass.
Good Morning All.

Did a stone get kicked up by the lawn mower? I've heard of thieves breaking a window, if it isn't fixed in a few days, they think its unoccupied, and easy pickings...

I guess that is one thing we have over California, we can burn things pretty much anytime. Of course we have to burn something about 6 months of year, or freeze our xxx.

Not sure how it broke. For mower to do it. A rock would have to ricochet off another rock. It was just small hole. I put Gorilla tape on it when I first saw it. When I cleaned windows last month. It started cracking in all directions.
Got 1.35” of rain today. How did much did you get?
