Good morning!!!!

Can't figure out what got Coco into a barking alarm this morning, but it was 5am, about time to get up anyway. I do smell skunk outside in the fog...seems like it often creeps in and lingers when there is an autumn fog slowly dancing across the ground. Glad I don't mind the smell terribly.

Only 61 this morning, but 86 later, and then two days of 88. It's autumn, but still have honeysuckle and crepe myrtle blooming, and the elaeagnus perfumes the whole yard this time of year...so putting up with upper 80s is okay.

Yard needs mowing...too wet with dew in the morning, and too dry in the afternoon. I'll try to catch it in the middle. Haven't had a real rain in 16 days.

Today is National Hunting and Fishing Day.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 60° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 91° with plenty of sun. Got cellar door done cleaned do to bare metal yesterday. Then primed it. Should be ready to first coat of paint today. While I was waiting for cellar door to dry off from dew drug out 3 items that have gas engine on them that have not been run in a long time. Drained old gas out and filled with fresh gas. All 3 ran on second pull. Ran each for about 1 hour. One of the engines in on orchard/lawn sprayer. Other 2 are from a snow blower and power washer. My son gave them to me. Thinking about refurbishing the snow blower and scraping the power washer. Engines are good. Will get cleaned up and stored without gas in them. No other plans for today.
Ed, I am addicted to coffee like some are with smoking. No plans to quit yet.
Don, glad your mom is getting out and taking care of garden.
Good Morning All.

Bird, I haven't had my eyes dilated in at least 10 years. They have a new machine. But I just read that Medicare patients have to use the old way. I wonder why?

That's news to me; never even heard about that new machine OR Medicare patients not using it. I've got 3 different eye doctors; one who did the cataract surgery on each eye a few years ago, and most recently did the laser surgery for scar tissue in one eye. I don't go back to see him anymore unless I have a new problem. The second eye doctor is the retina specialist who did retina surgery on each eye and still wants to see me at least every 6 months to check for macular degeneration. And the third (the one I saw yesterday) did the surgery in the past for strabismus, and I hope this time just eye exercises and prisms on one lens of my glasses will correct it. And this guy is amazing. One doctor with more than 50 (yep, that's not a misprint), more than 50 assistants (youngsters, mostly with foreign accents that are hard for me to understand) who do all the tests with a huge number of machines (offices and equipment in both Dallas AND Grand Prairie). You usually only see the doctor, himself, for one minute or less. And he's obviously very popular with a waiting room full of customers all the time.

Dilation-free retinal exam with new technology lets eye doctors save images, too | cleveland.com

I'm not sure this is the exact machine but it sure sounds like it. The retina pictures are amazing.
Am I the only one that doesn't get their eyes dilated? My eye Dr's. office is in Barton Creek Mall, Austin and has 2 assistants.

Next time I go I'll get more information.

My eye doc was "selling", promoting that machine's use for a modest 75 dollar additional charge.
??
I got my eyes dilated, and the bright sun was awful; fully understand why Bird wants to stay inside.
Doesn't go away as fast as they say either.
I told the eye doctor he could take his pictures every two years until there is a problem and then as often as he
needs if there is a problem. I'm probably one of the few people who said no to him.
They have two optional extras totaling over a hundred bucks for us Medicare folks where they don't get enough reimbursement it seems, so they try to
get it back with options.

It will likely become standard everywhere in just a few years.
The recording feature is a must for malpractice claims. When did you know?...all docs have this issue.
Comparing year to year pictures makes sense, watching what is usually degeneration until something is done about it.

Another lovely warm day here, not sure yet what I'm doing first. Actually I do know, writing a letter to the Willis Orchard company in Cartersville Georgia
and advising them that a great number of their pecan trees didn't make it. Many the whole 6 foot tree is dead and only shrubbery at the bottom.
Two out of sixteen pecans growing normally is not good at all. No more bare root plants for me. Shipping balled stock is getting simply unaffordable.
Their fig trees, cherry trees, English Walnuts, all did fine. Two out of three almond trees made it. One year guaranty, let's see how well they honor it.

Yes there is an extra charge but it was not $75. I don't remember how much extra it was but I'm thinking about $25. (Since my wife and I have it done on the same day $50 extra is acceptable $150 is a bit much.) Sure is worth it for me I hate to have my eyes dilated. The detailed digital picture comparison from year to year is the big advantage.

That extra charge is probably why medicare hasn't endorsed it.
Doesn't Medicare have it so Drs cannot charge more than their approved rate, kind of puts a damper on it and no reason for an optometrist to update equipment.
