Good morning!!!!

Can't figure out what got Coco into a barking alarm this morning, but it was 5am, about time to get up anyway. I do smell skunk outside in the fog...seems like it often creeps in and lingers when there is an autumn fog slowly dancing across the ground. Glad I don't mind the smell terribly.

Only 61 this morning, but 86 later, and then two days of 88. It's autumn, but still have honeysuckle and crepe myrtle blooming, and the elaeagnus perfumes the whole yard this time of year...so putting up with upper 80s is okay.

Yard needs mowing...too wet with dew in the morning, and too dry in the afternoon. I'll try to catch it in the middle. Haven't had a real rain in 16 days.

Today is National Hunting and Fishing Day.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 60° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 91° with plenty of sun. Got cellar door done cleaned do to bare metal yesterday. Then primed it. Should be ready to first coat of paint today. While I was waiting for cellar door to dry off from dew drug out 3 items that have gas engine on them that have not been run in a long time. Drained old gas out and filled with fresh gas. All 3 ran on second pull. Ran each for about 1 hour. One of the engines in on orchard/lawn sprayer. Other 2 are from a snow blower and power washer. My son gave them to me. Thinking about refurbishing the snow blower and scraping the power washer. Engines are good. Will get cleaned up and stored without gas in them. No other plans for today.
Ed, I am addicted to coffee like some are with smoking. No plans to quit yet.
Don, glad your mom is getting out and taking care of garden.
Good Morning All.

Bird, I haven't had my eyes dilated in at least 10 years. They have a new machine. But I just read that Medicare patients have to use the old way. I wonder why?

That's news to me; never even heard about that new machine OR Medicare patients not using it. I've got 3 different eye doctors; one who did the cataract surgery on each eye a few years ago, and most recently did the laser surgery for scar tissue in one eye. I don't go back to see him anymore unless I have a new problem. The second eye doctor is the retina specialist who did retina surgery on each eye and still wants to see me at least every 6 months to check for macular degeneration. And the third (the one I saw yesterday) did the surgery in the past for strabismus, and I hope this time just eye exercises and prisms on one lens of my glasses will correct it. And this guy is amazing. One doctor with more than 50 (yep, that's not a misprint), more than 50 assistants (youngsters, mostly with foreign accents that are hard for me to understand) who do all the tests with a huge number of machines (offices and equipment in both Dallas AND Grand Prairie). You usually only see the doctor, himself, for one minute or less. And he's obviously very popular with a waiting room full of customers all the time.

I'm not sure this is the exact machine but it sure sounds like it. The retina pictures are amazing.
Am I the only one that doesn't get their eyes dilated? My eye Dr's. office is in Barton Creek Mall, Austin and has 2 assistants.

Next time I go I'll get more information.

My eye doc was "selling", promoting that machine's use for a modest 75 dollar additional charge.
??
I got my eyes dilated, and the bright sun was awful; fully understand why Bird wants to stay inside.
Doesn't go away as fast as they say either.
I told the eye doctor he could take his pictures every two years until there is a problem and then as often as he
needs if there is a problem. I'm probably one of the few people who said no to him.
They have two optional extras totaling over a hundred bucks for us Medicare folks where they don't get enough reimbursement it seems, so they try to
get it back with options.

It will likely become standard everywhere in just a few years.
The recording feature is a must for malpractice claims. When did you know?...all docs have this issue.
Comparing year to year pictures makes sense, watching what is usually degeneration until something is done about it.

Another lovely warm day here, not sure yet what I'm doing first. Actually I do know, writing a letter to the Willis Orchard company in Cartersville Georgia
and advising them that a great number of their pecan trees didn't make it. Many the whole 6 foot tree is dead and only shrubbery at the bottom.
Two out of sixteen pecans growing normally is not good at all. No more bare root plants for me. Shipping balled stock is getting simply unaffordable.
Their fig trees, cherry trees, English Walnuts, all did fine. Two out of three almond trees made it. One year guaranty, let's see how well they honor it.

Yes there is an extra charge but it was not $75. I don't remember how much extra it was but I'm thinking about $25. (Since my wife and I have it done on the same day $50 extra is acceptable $150 is a bit much.) Sure is worth it for me I hate to have my eyes dilated. The detailed digital picture comparison from year to year is the big advantage.

That extra charge is probably why medicare hasn't endorsed it.
Doesn't Medicare have it so Drs cannot charge more than their approved rate, kind of puts a damper on it and no reason for an optometrist to update equipment.

Good morning all, 56 going to 83 and sunny today. Did not even get to start my to do list yesterday. Wife called a Craigs List add about a lift chair for mom and sent me to check it out. Stopped by the bank to get the $250 they were asking for the chair. Got to the address and made the deal for $250. Reached in my pocket for the $250 and only had $200. The guy Said "Just send me a check, No problem." I dug in my wallet and found $48 and he was happy with that. I often hear of people having a bad time with Craig List people but I have enjoyed every contact, buying or selling. Will try my list again today.

Don Glad your Mom is feeling like working in the garden. Their was an old lady near where I grew up that when she was 102 her kids took her garden tiller from her. They thought it was to much for her. When they got home the garden was worked up. They asked how the tiller was locked up in the shed? Her reply was, The grubbing hoe wasn't. My guess is that the garden was 30 x 50. She died at around 105 or 6 and gardened every year.

Have a great day Ed

Pretty morning, low 60's, may get near 90 today, but fall weather gets here late next week. Mowed grass yesterday, still growing, car show today, fund raiser for Alzheimer's Association.

Without my glasses, wasn't sure it was 630 or 830 when i got up. With glasses it was 830.

Saw back dr yesterday, he wants me to go to physical therapy for the back.

Came home from work and started mowing the yard. Hasn't been mowed in 3 weeks. Very tall, had to go real slow. It was damp down inside, so it was clogging the deck real bad. I just cleaned the deck before the last mowing. Back still hurts, but it seemed the longer i mowed it kind of felt a little better. Got to finish today. Hit 90° or close to it the last couple days.
Need to dig potatoes. Not sure i want to do the bending yet.

Need my eyes checked again. They still dilate.

Good Morning!!!! 58F @ 6:15AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Sunny. High 76F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph.

Wunderground appears to have sorted out the missing current temperature problem, and the MyYahoo web portal once again shows bookmarks. The two RSS news feeds are still MIA though. iOS 11 on the iPad, however, is indeed missing the AirPlay capability, rendering it useless for playing music on the back porch. The iPhone remains unsullied at 10.something, and still serves admirably in that function. Such glaring problems should have been caught by simple unit testing, and are just another indication of the decline of Apple under Cook.

With weather like that, Don, turnout will be pushing into record territory and you guys'll be extra busy. Hope that translates into more equipment for the VFD.

Had another small grass fire along Highway 70 yesterday, quickly extinguished by CalFire. It's still very dry, and this afternoon the weatherman is calling for a Fire Watch, with very low humidity, warming temperatures, and strong winds, into Monday. Fingers crossed the idiots that like to cut dry grass and throw cigarettes out the window, and burn trash get the message. Yes, our little neighborhood Facebook group regularly has posts decrying such foolishness, and the confrontations that follow during attempts to educate the offenders.:confused2:

Almost finished with last bracket for the old bike saddlebags, just have a couple of bosses to weld on before bead blasting and paint.

BBQed a chunk of fresh tuna for dinner; didn't even need salt to be delicious. Like the farmer's three legged pig, it's too expensive to eat all at once!

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend...

I've been out mowing the yard, and before I came back to TBN, I did a little Internet search and found some information about such machines; sounds great. I guess I'll have to ask my doctors the next time I visit them. Oddly enough, it sounds the same as what my retina doctor does with a machine that makes pictures for him, but AFTER they've dilated my eyes. But with Medicare and the AARP United Healthcare Supplement, he's never charged me anything.

But the strabismus doctor did charge me $37.98 yesterday for the prism they put on my glasses.

The low was 30* this morning, yesterday's high was 59*. We got some more snow in the afternoon about 3 in. It was wet and heavy a lot of it melted. It looks like it's going to be like that again today.

Worked on the side by side yesterday. They had put two plugs in the outlet side of the heater core not sure why. The instructions said to remove them . Well I seem the one but not the other one that was about half inch inside the same pipe. Didn't figure that out tell later in the day. So still have to finish it today. I guess I need to read bad instructions better.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

67°F and no rain

Yesterday didn’t go anywhere near expectations. 4 trips to town and back. 20plus miles each way.

1st trip pretty much as planned. Nice breakfast with wife, errands. Even got my senior flu shot, wife got the young one.

6 miles the other direction to transfer station for garbage and recycles. On way back stopped at local body shop. Al just got back from 2 months in Reno. Broke the drivers side door latch in the Sequoia about the time he had left so was waiting for his return. I bought replacement online. Told me he wouldn’t do it, too many plastic clips that might break.

Back home, I called auto shop I use when I don’t go to Toyota dealer. Settled on taking it right in. Didn’t matter if they kept over weekend. So that’s 2 trips - Sequoia and my truck. Did another HD trip while in town for a replacement screen door.

Arrived home to find a VM saying the Sequoia was done and ready for pick up.
Spent half an hour playing with the dogs and piddling around then back to town.

Sequoia indeed fixed, decided we’d eat in town and then head home with both vehicles.

We did get to see the space station later:

Be safe
Have a great day.
