It's a little warmer this morning 51*, yesterday day's high was 85*. Partly cloudy this morning with chance of showers today. The high will be around 80*.

More of the aspens are starting to change. We usually get a lite snow before the end of September. But I have seen over a foot of snow before the end of the month.
It's taking more time on the deck then I thought, so back at it today.

I've seen concrete products specially designed for resurfacing, though I've never used one. Need to do something to cover up ugly patches on the front porch, though, so if you'd give one a try, Eric, and report back, I'd be very grateful.:laughing:

Ed, you must be having a hard time keeping everything together while your wife is ill. At times like this I am really sorry that I can't offer any help with prayers as I lost religion at an early age, but I know there are lots of good, Good Morning folk who all be more than willing to help you out. Don't forget either those that don't post, instead being content to simply read these pages, as I'm sure many of those will be praying for your family too.

farmer2009, your 1.76 feed to chicken conversion ratio sounds very good. They talk about having to farm insects in future to get better ratios as the population increases. That certainly wouldn't be my preference, anyone who has ridden a bike at speed knows that insect after taste only too well !
Be interesting to hear more about the chicken windows. Would that only be on the north face ?

Got a bit of a surprise when I used the jet washer yesterday. The concrete I was cleaning has only been brushed over in the past. I was aware of it being potmarked but didn't realise it was quite so bad until the holes were blasted clean of sand, with pebbles coming out in some places too, leaving about 20 holes up to an inch deep to each square yard. It is quite a thick slab and doesn't get any vehicles over, so would be a bit of a waste to dig it all up and start again, although I'm not sure what is best to do next. Any ideas greatfully received - now who is going to say just fill the holes back up with sand and look at it again in another 10 years . Doesn't look too bad this morning anyway - all the holes have been filled by the rain.

Eric. It was good enough to win the competition. Had a farm that I competed against have a 1.74. But my birds were a half a pound heavier so that offset the extra feed.

My barns run northeast to southwest. Windows will be all around barns. Don't have the exact numbers yet but thinking a window every 20 feet of wall.

I honestly believe that the only way we will be able to feed the extra people is through efficiency increases. Hog and chicken feeding has been moved inside already and they have seen dramatic efficiency increases. I see cattle finishing moving inside. I've seen some numbers that suggest a 20-30% savings in feed after weening. I think cow calf operations will stay outside and on grass.

Have you thought about a thin layer of self leveling concrete?

I have a vintage 1997 Craftsman mower. I had trouble keeping a belt on, a problem that grew over time. I replaced every pulley on the deck, everything that moved. Still threw belts. Changed belts. No change. Finally, I changed the only thing original - the spring on the tensioner. No problems now. The spring looked fine, but apparently was losing tension over time. I replaced the other spring, on the pto belt also. Just for kicks. YMMV.

But nice to be home, saw a big convoy of electrical trucks headed South on I-95, one marked with black tape IRMA Bound. They created terrible traffic congestion as they insisted on running side by side, using two of the three lanes and not just getting in a single line. Perhaps to make a statement, a Trumpism.

very nice dinner last night, had lamb stew in a Peruvian restaurant in Doylestown PA, the county seat, and also where I was born back in 1950. Delivered by
the family doctor at Doylestown Hospital. We had three docs in town and they all delivered babies. Now things are so specialized that would never happen.
Doylestown is the heart of Bucks County, which is a very attractive albeit congested area with school systems that rival many colleges. A Northern suburb of Philadelphia with
pretty high taxes. I got caught in commuter traffic on a very windy back road yesterday morning which thankfully I had been on many times, and had a hard time keeping up with the line
of traffic. They were flying around curves, where you almost have to brace yourself, and the road went from one switchback to another and down over streams and up over hills where you crest and can see almost nothing. That gets the old ticker going if you don't know the road and are doing close to 50. Must have been about ten guys in front of me each getting their auto workout for the morning. And after a while, about ten cars behind me, making sure I keep up. Now I love to drive, so this was fun, but I remember thinking if we go any faster around these curves we are going to need helmets and roll bars. Subaru did fine but it does not like being chucked around. Grips like crazy but fair amount of effort needed.

Very nice out now but I think a nap is in order. 4am came early and that drive is long.
But was most cheered by seeing new path of Irma headed inland through NC, not the shore, and we might miss much of the storm surge.
But that of course puts it in a line to wack Buppies, Wingsprd and others.

Farmer, about 7 pounds a chicken if I did my math right? Of which one gets what, 4 pounds of edible chicken?

Good evening all. 58F this morning, clear, calm. high temp was 84F, wind SSE at 6-12 mph, and clear sky. worked on trying to find some of my retirement paper work for tax purpose, not found yet. Then went for bike ride, lunch and nap. Need to put down more milky spores, moles going nuts here.

Went to HS football game, won 56-0. Lower back started hurting the first half from sitting in the bleachers, now im in agonizing pain. Can't get comfortable.
