came in after a very satisfying morning. Got the trailing pivot wheel welded back onto the mower deck and despite
the ugly weld job, nice red primer hides a lot of ills.
Now on to fix the frame. A simpler job, then paint.

My watermelon decided to cooperate and the tendrils turned brown yesterday, just in time to pick for the holiday weekend. After putting it on ice for 24 hours it was time for the weigh in and cutting. It was a good one with a 9.5 taste rating at 35 degrees.View attachment 520519View attachment 520520

Drew, I'm impressed. Not a real welder here, but yours are looking good.

   / Good morning!!!! #61,948
That does look like a good watermelon, and a good weld.

I moved a door in my garage over about 6", to where it should have been. Had to move header over in load bearing wall which i braced up 3 ft back. Then got garage cleaned out.

Pressure washed back decks. Cleaned grill, pressure washed parts of it.

Tired...

Many of our schools starting after Labor Day. Harvey induced since many schools still being used as shelters.

Happy anniversary PJS.

Prayers for rip and wifey.

Been busy. Internet out. Not sure if it is on our end or not.

Fixed flat on tractor. I sure hate wrestling tires off and having to de-rust the rim and tire bead. 11.2 x 24 front wheel on the MFWD 5420. Getting too old for that.

Changed oil on it. $25 for filter and $34 for Shell rotella T. Did some touch up painting on her too since I had some rusty metal primer left over from flat.

Can't sleep. Left the stereo on in barn. Had to go shut down the boom boom volume.

Still watching scads of army convoys and supply trucks headed to Houston. I wonder how they will deal with all the refuse? Sheetrock, carpeting, furniture, flotsam and jetsam. Umpteen thousand vehicles flooded possibly. They said used cars will go up in value due to need. Does anyone know if the sheetrock can be recycled after being wet?

Have a great day all!

Kyle, maybe we both can take naps this afternoon....
they say up to half a million cars and trucks have been ruined.
Another Katrina possibility where wrecked cars get back into the system.
There was an expose recently about how hundreds of cars destined for the crusher wound up
on used car lots; insurance company mixup allegedly. Nah, someone was crooked.

Three days of quieter weather ahead. I'm going to work on the mower deck today and disc fields tomorrow.
It takes me a day with a hot pad on my neck to recover from all that bouncing and turning my neck around to see what's
going on. But I can't think of anything more fun than turning over that earth.
It took me almost an hour yesterday morning to get all the clogged grass out of the discs. One gang had already started to bind up, easy to see how it can work into bearings and ruin them. There are wipers for dirt, but five feet tall wiry grass is not what is supposed to be getting disc'd anyway. The second pass will be much better.

They say there are fire ants all through the Texas waters. Lot of folks going to get bit, whole ecosystem upset, snakes and bugs have gone places they normally don't

I've needed a nap the last week but no time for one.

Hope your aches and pains subside. My back was sore after the flat tire ordeal.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 53° with rain this morning. Heading to 77° with partly cloudy skies. Not much planned except help wife with house cleaning.
Good Morning All.

About 57 outside this AM. Rain pushing through. Hope it dries up so I can mow the grass one more time before I leave. Spent the better part of yesterday making hospital and residency plans. Looks like I'll be holed up in upper Manhattan for the holidays. With one or two trips further out east. LOL. The only thing I need to figure out is what to do with the last surviving dog. Shes like a carpet in the house and seriously attached to the wife. So much in fact her whole demeanor changes when the wife goes somewhere. I think all the girls will come by for checks up on the place, but the dog needs attention three times a day at least.

I swore a long time ago, I'd always be home for the holidays. Breaks my heart to see what the wife has got to go through. And we are country mouses at that. LOL.

Oh well, could be worse, could be better.

It's like autumn outside, what the heck is up with that. Even the pool cannot get a smile on my face with this cool weather.

Thoughts for those impacted by Harvey. I hope they can find something positive to pull them through.

Very sorry for what you and your wife are dealing with. Some hospitals allow dogs in for healing therapy.

Garden shed explosion video shows why it’s important to store gas cans safely during summer - National | Globalnews.ca

this is worth watching, particularly after what Toppop has been through.
found on another thread here
always leave a window cracked in your shed, if you can...
and please, please, please....
do NOT store chlorine for the pool anywhere, say within twenty feet,
of any gasoline whatsoever. Even rain water coming through an open window into a chlorine
can has caused explosions. And not much worse than chlorine gas coming at you.

We used to demo mixing gasoline with chlorine, in very small quantities in a dixie cup, on a board out on the driveway, on annual fire safety night back in my hometown in PA.
Lot of swimming pools and lot of folks clueless about dangers they had. When that cup lights off, it makes a believer out of you.

this is why, despite the smell, I really like diesel. You usually really have to work at it with diesel to get in trouble,
or a line fails and squirts fuel on the exhaust manifold.

Both chlorine and gasoline are powerful chemicals we keep around the house, and
there is a danger of taking them for granted and not giving them enough respect.
Lot of hard lessons here.
Lots of good reasons to keep this stuff as far away from our living areas as possible.

61 going to 81.

Drizzled and rained all day and night, but has stopped now. All this rain did show me a leak in the roof...that is, it showed me a damp place on the ceiling. Can't figure where the rain is seeping in. This is in a cathedral ceiling where there is no attic.

Don, that's a big, heavy, juicy looking watermelon! Was it sweet?

I think one of the most heartwarming things I've seen is a picture of a soggy dog, held in the arms of his elderly master, who was crying
in relief the dog had been found, and the dog was licking the tears off the man's face.
It will be alright. I am so happy to see you. It will be good. Dog treat?
have to think like a dog...

a prayer for all who have lost pets

Good morning. No signs of the sun here today, with a stiff breeze blowing the 13C/55F @11:00 it feels quite cold too. A good day to sit in a warm cab, listen to the radio and de-decapitate a few more weeds on the pasture.

Good luck finding that tiny leak in your Cathedral ceiling - is that what they mean by on a "wing(sprd) and a prayer"? :)
