The low this morning was 42*, yesterday high was 69*. We got some rain in the afternoon. Today's going back to the low 80's and sunny. The weekend looks good for holiday.

PJSprog. Happy anniversary to you and your wife.

Started to change the block heater in the tractor yesterday, will finish it up today. May start working on the cover for the deck. Still not sure how I'm going to make it, so it's easy to put up and take down.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Good morning! 93 outside August is back. My experiment with 20 percent vinegar is progressing see pics. IMG_0863.JPGIMG_0878.JPG
I'll keep an eye on the weeds and make sure the plant is dead and not just the foliage. I put a tablespoon of soap and a tablespoon of orange oil to a pint of 20% vinegar.

62F, overcast and windy @ 13:00. High of 67F predicted today.

Harvey's center of circulation appears to be right between and Nashville and Chattanooga, TN and tracking northeast ... which puts it on the more southerly track. The edge of the rain is just south of us now, with a band of rain stretching from the western part of KY all the way to the East coast, with feeder bands (?) dropping down well into the Gulf of Mexico. The size of these systems is really pretty impressive.

Local weather guessers think it will mostly track south of us but we could see a little shower activity from it tomorrow. Temps will pop back up into the high 70's and low 80's Sunday and Monday as warm air returns.

Thoughts and prayers for those down to the south and west who are still dealing with its aftermath.

rain held off, disc harrow showed up, I was in the field an hour later. Weeds were five feet high, should have been bush hogged but
it cut through pretty well. Will do again tomorrow at 45 degree angle. Great fun.

Nice job Drew! You're a good neighbor.

Nice job Drew! You're a good neighbor.

thanks, even if I'm trying to get you to drive a peacock blue truck...:D

frankly, it looked pretty crummy when I was done, but after another pass at it, should be better. Disc harrows were not made
for five feet of grass and old soy bean plants. Thick grass was the hardest, but might has right and those discs are pretty sharp.
i posted this pic on another thread where I asked about tire size and was promptly and thoroughly advised how I had the harrow set up wrong.
Yes, but I was in a rush to take it out and use it...front and rear gangs need some fine tuning for sure.

My destitute farmer neighbor came and asked me for money a few days ago and I said no. He wanted to extend a small land lease we have between us for three more years and he isn't going
to make it that long sadly. I had no need for what he was selling. Then gave him a hundred bucks for seed. Will be interesting to see if he goes to the seed store
or the ABC store. I think his old JD can pull the cultivator and he has something really ancient, little Farmall with cultivators on it, you see them everywhere.
But it won't disc all his acres without overheating and belching smoke. So this is where I can help.

what is sad is he lives surrounded by three more generations of family and they all mooch off him. No one gives him help or money.
His daughter and granddaughter won't pick up the trash in their front yard, which I refuse to pick up or mow into bits.
They don't work and they don't help their father out at all. Multigenerational mooches. All in a horribly unattractive Tobacco Road falling down hovel.
Plus the cars that come in and out looking for the daughter. beat up cars and trucks, driving slowly, probably stoners looking to buy.
So the grandfather really has his hands full.

I keep an appropriate distance, refuse to be his bank, frankly have fun playing farmer on his land, and try to be
a good human being to him. Even when he is standing there picking at the scabs all over his body. Might be the 50 feral cats
he lives with.

Temps have dropped to 55 and been raining since noon, right before I got back to the truck after taking Coco on a hike down to the river at the battlefield forest park.

Happy Anniversary PJ and Mrs. PJ!

Sharp looking disc, Drew! How'd the Massey do without weights?

Don, how long has the vinegar been at work?

My wife's SUV turned over 200K recently, so we've been talking about how we don't even know much about what is even out there nowadays. Although we're in no hurry since my 4Runner went 377K before someone hit and totaled it...it's lucky for her, Toyota just sent me this email with the perfect 230mph SUV featured :)...

Hi guys, dropping in from the Outer Banks, been chauffeuring the wife from shop to shop , buying more of what we already have too much of, but then she thinks I do the same. Got to see the new bridge construction at Oregon Inlet, a lot of people here this week, I usually go next week, now I remember why.
Mom is not doing well, she's now a permanent resident of the home, we all hate that. She asked me yesterday why they were still giving her medicine. She was self sufficient from 6 to past 90, it's so sad to see this.

I've likely posted much of this before, but
We have a 2001 Toyota Sequoia Limited. Bought is used in 2004 when we still lived Atlanta. Just barely over 100k now and it has been a great car, but things have started to break, latest being the driver side inside door handle. Seeing more rust, lot of the things that should be flexible are pretty stiff, can't diagnose and electrical window that doesn't work, and a few other electrical mysteries. No doubt, not far from a non economically sensible repair. First choice would have been getting new Sequoia in same trim, but in the $60k range that was a non starter. My wife wants to keep the 3rd seat option (8 pax) as it is convenient when family visits. So next logical choice in Toyota was the Highlander. Talked casually with a number of owners, all pleased. Of course we only wanted the 4x4 model, not a single one available in the state nor anticipated until the new 2017s came in. Not being in any hurry, we could have waited. Fate intervened.
Our Toyota salesman informed me he was moving to the Honda dealership. We ended up getting the 2016 Honda Pilot. Couldn't be happier. Still have the Sequioa, the boss hasn't granted permission to rehome it yet.

David, you were up late, I'm up early.
My closest friend traded in his Pilot for a new Ridgeline. Basically a Pilot with a pickup bed.
Another close friend also bought a Ridgeline. Simply outstanding vehicles, might be the last one you buy, since today
they seem to rust less. Can you imagine racking up 300K miles driving around on the island you do?
Pilot should be a little more comfortable, less trucky than what you have had, and more comfortable than Highlander.
Wish you the best with it.

Got my 8 hours of sleep, was totally worn out from running the tractor yesterday. Neck hurts and right hand is swollen.
I love this stuff but it sure is hard on me. Not like I'm going to stop...
Thunderstorms woke me up last night, really pounded down. More showers possible this morning. Not going to get much done outside.
So maybe a day back inside the barn.

Forgot to start coffee brewing. :ashamed: 44° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 71° with lots of sun. Lighting is done in leanto. Not much planned today. Trip to Sam's Club. Put some weed killer down. Got same weeds in walkway that Don has.
Gas prices here have gone up $.20 to $.30. Not sure if that is because of Harvey or holiday weekend.
David, hope that cold is getting better.
Riptides, prayers and best wishes for your wife.
Good Morning All.

35 right now...brrrrrrr! High about 70 or so.

Since it's supposed to be crisp and clear, we're going to Mount Equinox (Skyline Drive - About the Skyline Drive) today.
The best time to go would be about a month or so from today for the leaves changing.
I was told that's when the tourists and buses are there and it's stop and go traffic. Well, we have plenty of trees here to see the leaves change and I hate stop n' go traffic, so we're going today.
