56 here...brrrrrr, toooo. Raining all night.

Today at noon is opening of dove season. May be a wash out, but a chance of gaps in the rain this afternoon.

Roy, didn't know there was another Skyline Drive...that's also the name of the road that travels the tops of the mountains in Shenandoah NP. I looked up Mt Equinox and the area looks beautiful. Have fun.

I've never been to Skyline Drive...that's the Blue Ridge Mountains, right? Always wanted to go when I lived further south (MD and PA)...just never got there.
I didn't know there was a Skyline Drive in Vermont until a week ago...

63 headed toward upper 80s here in SE Oklahoma today.
Got the septic installed for the upcoming guest cabin so now all the utilities have been stubbed in. Wife and I went prefab cabin shopping all day yesterday. I'd rather build it but she wants me to by the shell and finish it out due to my limited time at home. So we will probably be buying it....
Picked up two more crepe myrtle trees yesterday and plan on getting them in the ground today. Which means wrestling with the PHD to mount it. And then some large flat rock landscaping and stacking on the driveway entrance to clean up where I dug up the area with the backhoe.
Flail mower blades and pins come in so may get to start on replacing them on the old Mott mower I have. It probably has less than 20% remaking blades on it. I splurged and bought a new belt tensioning spring for it to replace the screen door spring that's been on it since I've had it.
Waiting on wife to wake up and get coffee. She's a light sleeper and any of my clumsiness in her kitchen will bring her out of bed.
Good wishes to all and hope the day goes good.

Yes, the Blue Ridge. Then at the southern end of Shenandoah NP Skyline Drive turns into the Blue Ridge Parkway and goes all the way to the Great Smoky Mountains NP, a total of over 570 miles. Two lane road, no stop signs or traffic lights, and no commercial trucks...lots of RVs, cars and motorcycles.

Good morning! 68˚ heading to the 90s clear skies.
We checked in on the last of the relative affected by Harvey, wife's uncle in Rosenberg Texas, the river there had not yet crested but he was not in danger of flooding. With all the relatives in Texas we have gotten reports of only one cousin that got water in her house and one with minor roof wind damage and two roof water leaks. The only thing I'll have to do is fix Mom's leaking roof/chimney. I'm just waiting on one more repair item from Amazon before I get on the roof.

Traffic has really picked up around here on the major highways in the form of disaster relief heading to the flooded areas. Lots of travel trailers, Texas Reserves convoys, restoration and flood damage repair companies, Insurance trailers, etc . . . Also it is Labor day weekend. The gas supply shortage also has has lots of vehicles on the road with people looking to top off their tanks so now half the gas stations are out of gasoline. In the past, several time after floods in Houston, I had filled up with water contaminated fuel - so that will also be a problem with stations in the flood areas.

Roy I can see that duo has had their coffee. Did you notice every time she stomps her foot on the floor the camera moves? They must be on a pier and beam house or a trailer house. She does have the moves even sitting down. I bet in her day she was a back up dancer for a music video, in the 50s.

About 57 outside this AM. Rain pushing through. Hope it dries up so I can mow the grass one more time before I leave. Spent the better part of yesterday making hospital and residency plans. Looks like I'll be holed up in upper Manhattan for the holidays. With one or two trips further out east. LOL. The only thing I need to figure out is what to do with the last surviving dog. Shes like a carpet in the house and seriously attached to the wife. So much in fact her whole demeanor changes when the wife goes somewhere. I think all the girls will come by for checks up on the place, but the dog needs attention three times a day at least.

I swore a long time ago, I'd always be home for the holidays. Breaks my heart to see what the wife has got to go through. And we are country mouses at that. LOL.

Oh well, could be worse, could be better.

It's like autumn outside, what the heck is up with that. Even the pool cannot get a smile on my face with this cool weather.

Thoughts for those impacted by Harvey. I hope they can find something positive to pull them through.

And the only time we drove that was in 1974 in a 1973 18' Winnebago Brave.

Our grandson has agreed to me having a rest and say "Good Morning" before our next game of football. Summer may have been cancelled for us this year, but at least the September sun is shining and we are trying to make the most of it.

On Thursday evening my wife was in a dark mood. She had wanted to do some grass cutting before the wet weather came, yet her beloved ride on mower refused to start and I couldn't get it going that night . The deck position microswitch has been suspect for a while (it was on my mental rainy day to-do list, honest !), so that was the first thing to look at. Cleaned contacts and re positioned the switch body, which was more tricky than I first thought as it needed to sense both up and first cutting height while allowing for a lot of mechanical hysteresis in the switch. Battery terminals were dirty too and needed removing to clean up. With the fuel tank sat right above and very little room to get in, it was a case of using the old style non-ratchet spanner (what you may call a "wrench" ?), turn a few degrees, turn spanner over, turn a few more ... Italian machinery may look good and this mower does work very well, even on steep slopes, but serviceability must not feature too highly on the designer's list of priorities.

All done, turn the key, expecting the Briggs & Stratton V-Twin to burst into life and - nothing :confused3:.
There was another fault that eventually I found to be nothing more than a bad contact on the starter relay, although by that time half a day had slipped by. Wife is smiling again and did a good job cutting our football pitch.

Happy anniversary PJ, hope you enjoy twisted art.

Lenny, it can hurt when you are forced to buy something that you would have enjoyed making yourself - just add that to the price of a happy marriage ;)

Huge thunderstorms came tru last night lots of wind and rain light rain this morning. Two commodes failed when we got down south hot water heater too and sink stopped up. Plenty to do today. Wife's dinner made her sick last night still sick today so I'm off to do what I can.

Blue ridge parkway runs very close to the north end of my property. It is very beautiful in the fall. In the winter if we had enough snow used to let snow mobiles on the mountain section that was closed but no more

The low this morning was 43*, yesterday high was 83*. About the same for the last week. The forecast is the same for the next few days.

riptides, wishing the best for you and your wife.

The weekenders made it up yesterday. The road looked more like a highway. A lot of them are going back into Utah to camp. But we get a fair number that have cabins up here. We only see them on the holidays.
Going to a HOA meeting this morning.
Ft. Bridge is having their mountain man rendezvous this weekend may go and see that.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Starting to rain, will be an all day rain. Lots done outside yesterday, mowed the field, string trimmer around everything after rewindind with new string, replaced fence post that broke off, made a new volleyball pole for one that got broken. Today need to clean grill, clean garage, and maybe install new kitchen faucet. Got 2 cats laying on me now.

I like interior of my 2005 pilot (344k) better than my 2013 pilot (120k). Have not been in the new style that came out a couple yrs ago.

Oh yea, 54° with the rain. Guess this is harvey hitting us.

Nice video Roy, spoon lady has it going on.

I also didnt know of 2nd skyline drive. We do VA one a good bit, used to camp on it about every yr, but havent in awhile. Last time i tried, we got the remnant of a hurricane come thru, it was so windy and raining sideways, we packed up and left.

Been on blue ridge parkway several times. Beautiful drive.

Rainy warm and humid her on the Outer Banks, cool and rainy at home. Both places are getting a good bit of rain today.

   / Good morning!!!! #61,939
68°F and no rain.
Feeling a lot closer to human this morning :)

Just plan to putter a bit. Crazy how zapped I feel so quickly.

I remember this as being last big weekend of the summer growing up. School would start Tue after Labor Day. Been back in session several weeks here, granddaughter started last week in Va although I understand some parents weren't happy about it.

Be safe
Have a great day.

My watermelon decided to cooperate and the tendrils turned brown yesterday, just in time to pick for the holiday weekend. After putting it on ice for 24 hours it was time for the weigh in and cutting. It was a good one with a 9.5 taste rating at 35 degrees. IMG_0879.JPGIMG_0880.JPG
