I don't know what it was this morning, but I had a lot of people cut me off. Leave a car length at 80 mph, and someone will wedge their way in.

The consistent way to keep a safe distance from the car in front of you is to find a middle lane and go 3.5 mph below traffic pattern or 1 mph below speed limit, whichever is higher.
When you do that, whoever cut in will speed away from you. Any slower will increase the occurrence of road rage. By the way, this won't lower your accident risk but will lower your chance of being at fault significantly.

Try driving like that out here and you'll have your choice of being run over or being involved in a really nasty road rage incident. If you wanna drive slow, do it in the SLOW LANE. Pretending like you're doing your civic duty by impeding traffic flow isn't doing anybody any favors, and only makes congestion worse.ullinghair:
