The consistent way to keep a safe distance from the car in front of you is to find a middle lane and go 3.5 mph below traffic pattern or 1 mph below speed limit, whichever is higher.
When you do that, whoever cut in will speed away from you. Any slower will increase the occurrence of road rage. By the way, this won't lower your accident risk but will lower your chance of being at fault significantly.

39°F and clear skies this morning, Going up to 61° and sunny all day. Need to get things dried out here so we can mow this weekend.
Also need to get some temporary fencing to fence of the muddy areas in the newly fenced-in backyard, and get some seed down on it. The three amigos seem to gravitate right to those areas, and Momma don't care for the muddy paws on the new floors.

Try driving like that out here and you'll have your choice of being run over or being involved in a really nasty road rage incident. If you wanna drive slow, do it in the SLOW LANE. Pretending like you're doing your civic duty by impeding traffic flow isn't doing anybody any favors, and only makes congestion worse.

Of course it is windy and raining this morning since today is the septic pumper day. Took advantage of visiting daughter and got a cabinet hung.

I'm not talking about driving slow slow. I'm talking going slightly below and avoid the passing lanes and let people clear away. If they go 100 I'll go 97. That worked in NY, Boston, L.A , everywhere I've been. Not one road rage incident for that againt me yet.
