Question for you Drew, about your new chipper. So I'm wondering: what did I miss in deciding to burn vs. chipping? Is it because you wanted the chips for mulch?

not for mulch, I filled my large burn pile/pit in about two years of use. I have no where to dump the ashes, which have the inevitable metal interspersed so this is a disposal problem. The chipper can be driven right to where I cut, like I did in these pics. Limbs were falling down around the tractor, so I had to pick them up only once. Only way to do that is bring the source to you. I think.

Secondly I am ready to head for my pond after three years. And with a chipper, I can work my way through the woods again only picking things up once usually and the chips going back into the woods will break down quickly. This back area was logged and there are great mounds of sawdust under natural growth in areas near where the path will go. Other areas are swamp like and impassable. But my pond is well known to locals before the logging made the second growth clog up the landscape. I will do my best to avoid large trees so the path will wind a little, no straight interstate here, and for sure will wind around nice trees like hollies and magnolias. Any tulip poplar or pine in the way may not be long lived.
Hopefully I won't have to cut any large pine trees because I'll have a real problem doing something with them, other than dumping them some place in the woods. I'm trying to clean up legacy messes here, not add to them. And I sure am not going to shove a 7 inch pine trunk in this chipper no matter how slow it's going. Maybe five inches max. The rest gets logged out, someplace. And there will be way too much of it to burn.

The chipper isn't particularly fast, as I'm running it on the slow input setting and not sure I want to go faster for awhile.
I guess when I hear it slow down I'll know when it is reaching its limit. Pretty sure I can't hurt the tractor at all. It's running at full torque
and should have no problems with this thing. Now if I hear a bang and the belts start smoking well I've practiced in my head the fastest way to get the pto turned off. This is when not having that easy to get to little yellow knob is more than just an inconvenience when I have to climb back on the tractor to turn the pto off by declutching vs just reaching in/over and flipping the knob.

RNG, the other green issue is what is a 49 hp Tier II diesel putting out at 1900 rpm into the air?
Probably not very much diesel consumed but has to be a couple gallons per hour, at least.

Good evening all. this morning's low was 66F at 7 am, but the temp had been rising from midnight. Overcast skies and breezy finish the weather observation. Temp made it to 78F, very humid and windy most of the day. Took the wife to her dental appointment, and ran errands like dropping off the car for repair, picking up straw for step daughter, and trip to Oreillly's for different air chuck for bicycle tire. after lunch had bible class then me dental appointment to deep clean half my mouth. Will do the other half when my permanent crowns come in. Repair shop called, said BCM was bad, ok the replacement but I really wonder how in depth the diagnosis was performed :2cents:

Sounds nice, looks great, enjoy!

I need to fix my noisy garage door. Enough spray grease in the track will quiet it down but if the temps get cold it won't operate. Screw drive genie model. Maybe a new track slider thingamajig dumaflatchee?
My next opener will be one of the liftmasters that mount on the end of shaft at top of door.

41 right now and the high will be in the low 60's.

Heading down to Connecticut for the next three days. I'm going to an AS 9100 training seminar....AS 9100 being the aerospace version of ISO 9000. I hope I can stay awake...

Have you considered a dry molybdenum spray ? I have started using that on anything I don't want grit to stick to.

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but our woodburner hinge pins were squeaking, so I cleaned them and gave them a little spray with the moly. Forgot about it until I came to make the fire that night, then when I closed the door, it shut at something approaching warp speed with a mighty SLAM ! :ashamed: :)

Good morning. Soggy day yesterday, warming up a degree or so, just enough for all potential white stuff to come down as cold rain. I received 11 of the latest born lambs on Monday and would normally have let them out into the field but decided to keep them back under a dry roof for an extra day. Fortunately today is much improved and they can go out. I need the space as there will be another trailer load of lambs today and many more to come over the next week or so.

Charming, chiming sun room PJ. As a musician, you can no doubt tell exactly what note each of the chimes play. Ever thought of writing it down as a musical score music.png

Don't envy you on that course Roy, although, a few minutes snooze there should be real quality sleep.

Abilene TX.
Looks like a busy weekend for me. Off to work today and prep my crew to run things through the weekend. Pick up the 1600 lb of scrap steel I've got earmarked as ballast and weight for the backblade and liftblade.
Then drive home to Oklahoma (450 miles). Wife sold RV to out of state friends who have arranged a transporter to pick it up Friday. So I have to get all our "stuff" out and turn it around facing the road with the tractor.
Then drive back Sunday to work.
Wife is staying home this time as she's arranged for new windows and French doors to be installed on the lake side. The sun from the south has clouded most of them pretty bad.
She had two requests.
For me NOT to look at the bill till after it is done. And stay away until it was completed. I don't know which one is harder. I hate people working on my house.

If I get time, I want to drop the Ford 2n hydraulic pump out and maybe bring it back with me to overhaul. Wonder if the hotel will mind if I set it in the bathtub to clean it?

Still a couple of hours before the alarm goes off so guess I'll try to sleep a little more. Waking her up 2 hours early for coffee may not be a good idea as she's driving on home today ahead of me. She hates night driving while I prefer it if I HAVE to get somewhere soon.

Hope all is well. 70s and 80s weather here in Texas last couple of days.
Lenny

Good morning all. Very warm here this morning, already mix sixties going up to low 80's today, which for March 1 is pretty warm here. Then hopefully some rain tonight; we are very behind in our precip for last three months.

Lenny, not a word about the curtains unless it's just a "wow that is nice honey". Then...when you come you just slip on over to Harbor Freight, or to the Kubota dealer, and come home with something you "already had on order".... Life is good.

working on taxes this morning early, then headed outside. Might even have to fire up the weedeater and trim around the barn; weeds are almost ten inches high.

Mostly, crowns? a royal price I'm sure... I just love those four figure trips to the dentist. Medicare of course pays nothing for dentistry so I've learned to bargain with the dentist. You want how much for that little tooth?

51 high of 76 later with thunderstorms some on strong side

   / Good morning!!!! #55,512
We are already at our daytime high of 34. There is either more rain or snow coming. I would rather have snow, but I will take what I am given as if I have a choice.

Roy, a little 'power nap' in the middle of the day does a world of good.

daugen, get them all out and there is no more bargaining. :)

lennyzx11, I am with you. I would rather run at night.

   / Good morning!!!! #55,513
57 going to a record 81, so they say, and then thunderstorms.

PJ, that rooms looks very inviting and comfortable.

Lenny, you have such a beautiful view of the lake, you'll love the changes...plus Drew's idea of a trip to the tractor dealer sounds good, too.

I went to our Kubota dealer yesterday...I have a small leak out of the left rear axle seal...wow, $200 just to transport the tractor, and then $600 plus parts and hope it is just the seal that is bad. Since I was there, asked about what hydraulics were needed to get my FEL grapple-ready...need to talk to a salesman, who was not available...so expecting a call back...they will want to propose the work including the grapple, too. I need to spend some time on the Attachments and project forum checking out grapples and DIY hydraulic plumbing projects. It would be nice to add rear remotes, and then run the grapple from that, but not sure that works.

RNG, looking forward to going over to the Drought thread and catching up on the dam and the drone video.

39F now might reach 60 on/off showers.

Wonder if March will come in as lion or lamb.

Enjoy the day all.

55 out this AM. Recovery mode from chainsaw work most of the day yesterday. Had to take out a blue spruce under my power line to the house, the wind got it and the root ball started to show. That was fun. No bzzt involved. Had the power company top it for me so I could drop it. Then went and cleared around barn silo. Sheesh..... that area has been neglected for a long time. Like 20 years or so. So lots of brush trees and poison ivy around there. The barn will be the summer project. Paint, cleaning and refurb in areas.

Today, since the steady rains started yesterday evening is tree stump extract day. The burn pile gets a fresh start.

Hope all have a great day, and be safe.

Billy, most likely you need a front hydraulics kit, two lines, mounting kit. Gives you the extra line needed
for opening and closing the grapple. I ordered it when I bought my tractor and was glad I did. Then they add a small box to your FEL
control with some lighted buttons on them. One to open, one to shut. Don't remember the cost, but
not quite AED worthy. Particularly considering how helpful a grapple is. Wicked Grapple from Everything Attachments is a good benchmark for dealer comparison, dealers of course almost always being more. Sometimes much more. I've been walking away lately, like getting that wood chipper direct from maker in NY. Dealers can't stock, have buying agreements or access to every line at every price point.
I usually print out the good deal and ask the dealer, what do you have like this? And then see if they add enough value to be worth the money
difference. A grapple is a great thing to have. Our days of picking up 300 pound logs are over.

53 here, going down to 23 the night, possible snow tomorrow. Yuck. Got the new cable/ tv system in, went with att, much cheaper than direct tv. My phone died, the replacement showed up about 5 last night, need to get that squared away. A few chores around the place, should round out the day.

Be safe.

Oh yeah. Since I fell last month, broke a couple ribs, I've gotten more careful. Not getting any younger. Probably a couple years younger than you, tho.

55ーF and cloudy this morning, going up to 75ー today. We got a little rain overnight, but most of the heavier stuff went south of us. Expecting the angry red spots on the radar later today and tonight. Local power companies already have their media peeps out this morning discussing their action plans to restore knocked-out power.

The flooring company showed up yesterday and installed the new vinyl in the sunroom, laundry room, and bathroom. Looks quite nice. The electrician was also there and while he didn't get everything done, he did get to most of it. He'll be back on Thursday to finish. Now, we just need to get the interior trim up around the windows and doors, and that room will be done.

A pic she sent me yesterday afternoon after she moved the furniture back in:

I've been told that is very painful. In another month you should be good as new
