RNG, glad you aren't sliding off the mountain. Sad what this rain
did to Route 1, a road I bet you've driven many times.
The California Rains Have Ruined America's Favorite Road Trip

naciamentoFurgesonSmoke.jpg
I was just through that closed section last July when I attended a motorcycle rally at the Laguna Seca racetrack. Not much happening at the track except a bunch of car guys wearing out tires, so I rode. The wildfires were still burning furiously inland from the coast, clouding the sky with smoke, but the Naciamento-Furgeson road inland was open and formed the southern boundary of the National Forest closure perimeter. Took a back way into Carmel Valley from the track, then south on 1, stopping for breakfast in Big Sur. Then farther south to the NF road. Stopped at the top for a picture, then rolled into Fort Hunter Liggett and Jolon beyond. There it was north to Greenfield where the Arroyo Seco road heads north and eventually changes name to Carmel Valley Road, more or less completing the loop.

Usta be an annual thing for me to ride down to Andrew Molera State Park where I'd camp close to the beach. There was always a sunny weekend in January, usually warmer than in summer because there'd be no fog.

I wouldn't worry too much about them fixing the road; the merchants will be screaming bloody murder until they do! Back in 2011 another section at Pitkin's Curve washed out and they spent close to forty million on the repair. Very ugly and not at all in keeping with the feel of the area, but they won't be having any trouble with that section anytime soon!

Good evening all. 51F clear and light breeze this morning, Windy, clear and temp at 86F this afternoon. Internet has been down more than up since 5PM :(. This morning worked on getting all my projects on paper, ie squawk list for van, truck, golf cart and bikes. Then I sucked up some leaves as they were piled up outside. Also did some consulting this afternoon and some dog sitting.

RNG 26 lbs with rack bag and spare tubes/tools etc. 10-spedd weighs in at 35, Trek 32. Rides really well and vibration is noticeably less, wrists don't fall asleep after 1.5 hours in the saddle :) BTW, the cowboy trail in Nebraska has a bridge 145ft above the river it crosses, hope to ride it when the trail is mostly complete

Eric, interesting bike, is that yours?

Billie, nice red on the barn!

Ron, any ides to keep birds out of garage?

52 out this AM. I was sweating in a tee shirt most of the day yesterday. Sheesh. I am cleaning up the yard as others are probably doing the same. The weather kind of snuck up on us. Today looks to be in the upper 70's. Wow. I'll take that.

Got a new issue here, some skunk (s) seems to have been scurrying about the place the last week or so. The smell is overwhelming, so it is really close and either the barn cats or the horses are spooking it. Guess I'll get the traps out today. Not a pleasant thing to walk outside to. WHAM!

LOL.

Have a great day all, be safe!

Not mine, I always preferred more classic looking frames, although I must admit my first ever mountain bike was a GT Karakorum, bought more for it's unconventional looks than practicality of weight.

I do still have a vintage road bike made with a 531 plain gauge frame and 531 double butted forks that was built by the once legendary Claud Butler, when he was still brazing the frames himself. His branding was later used on mass produced bikes, which had little in common except the name on the top tube.

Stormy Doris has finally left us to go onto a tour of Holland and Germany. I have just got back from checking our fields for damage, just one tree down across my boundary fence with it's roots lifting out the fence on my neighbors side. At least neither of us have stock in there at the moment, so I can take my time with the chainsaw.

Heard from a friend who asked if I had any spare 32" x 24" slates, he lost 3 from his house, letting the rain pour in through the unfelted roof and has a tree down through one of his barns. Local news showed pictures of many trucks on their sides and numerous cars crushed by falling trees. Quite a few people have been seriously injured and a young lady killed by wind blown debris outside a Starbucks coffee shop. Unfortunately this has been one of those times when the weather forecasters sometimes hyped up predictions proved to be very accurate.

Rain this morning and spotty all day.

Hope it's not infectious and the spots soon clear Phil. :)

Oh OH, I can answer this one. Just put a radio on in the garage on a talk radio station.

I can vouch that music doesn't slow them down. Carolina wrens (IIRC) are notorious and very brave about putting nests in most anyplace in a barn. Maybe have to figure out which talk radio to play? Which direction would y'all feel that Carolina wrens lean? I'll play the other side's radio station for a bit to see if it tees them off enough to leave. :) Just kidding. No politics.

Be sure to tie a long rope to the trap so you can drag it away. One neighbor says he drags them into their pond.

I used to have a Dawes (IIRC)? Not sure, but it may have been made in Birmingham England. It was made in the '70's. We called them "English racers" here.

All I have left from my younger days is my trusty unicycle. It is getting a bit harder to ride it at my age, but I can still go forward and make some turns. Just out of shape and practice on it.

That "gate" bike pic was cool. I just wonder how much the fenders slow you down as compared to without. I do like the look of fenders...classic. I also like Freddie Fender. :)

Did Dorris do any damage?

I'm off today, but busy day scheduled. My Finnly has an appointment with her counselor. I may put my young tomatoes in the ground and take a chance. I've wasted $3 in far worse ways before.

Having coffee that my beautiful wifey made. 8 o'clock brand decaf. A bit stronger than my favorite southern pecan decaf.

Good day all!

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 47° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 62° with sunny skies. Cool weather for this area next couple of days. Taking wife and friends to art & craft fair today.
Good Morning All.

my hand reached out at Lowes and then came back, not yet...

But I did get some more strawberries, they are easy to cover in a frost.
And another weeping willow, and three more cypress and arborvitae to keep working
at my original woodline where the neighbors show through in the winter.
I had a big order with Burgess by mail order but they hadn't shipped in three weeks and could not
confirm shipping. Cancelled that order, will do it piecemeal locally.

Bicycling seems like such a great way to get outdoors and go on adventures, quietly. If one can get away from traffic particularly.
But those little seats would never do, where's the Big Bubba extra gel special? And none of that lean over stuff, back
and neck don't bend. Wind or solar powered? ok, ok, perhaps I should stick with my golf cart...

Going to have to admit that the best part of bicycling is admiring women in those sprayed on outfits going by.
Just looking for silver linings and the bright side since I can't ride a bike any more...

warming up nicely out, off to plant some trees in the sunshine.
This is what I had always hoped retirement would be.
