My alcohol stove had gone out, so after making sure it was cool, I added more alcohol. When I put the lid back on my fuel bottle, it was hot, and I was dripping fire on the dry pine needles where I was sitting. I poured the coffee water on it to put it out. It did melt the lid down into the bottle before I got it out. No real damage done.

Alcohol stove ? Always imagined you would be more of the Kelly Kettle type, with a tiny little fire of dead twigs, ignited by casting sparks onto a piece of naval fluff and shavings of your treasured fatwood. Great to hear from you again.


I may have said before that I never trust alcohol burners, not since I was young and spilled the fuel for my little static Mamod steam engine. Within seconds the almost invisible flame had run over the concrete floor of the porch, fortunately stopping short of the coconut fibre mat by the wooden door. To a young boy it was fascinating and terrifying in equal measures.

much chillier 29 going up to 50 today, and I have absolutely nothing planned. Still having leg cramp problems so going to stay off my feet today and see if that helps.

Had a nice dinner out last night, on the way picked up some to go seafood dinners and took them to 90 year old lady in local nursing home, who was very excited to get some "real food". The twenty bucks spent on those two catfish dinners was worth a billion dollars of gratitude and appreciation, talk about ROI...trying to do this once a week while she is in there. Not sure she is coming out either, older step sister of my friend. Who all day long is kept company in that nursing home by her 65 year old son who is severely disabled with MS. When we brought that food in, two big wide smiles greeted us. There but for the grace of God go us...

35 high of 46 today still breezy finished job yesterday asphalt plant closed on to grading. The wish casters are predicting snow next weekend for SE but I'm very skeptical.

Good morning! 25F and that is our high for the day. Light snow in the forecast and it is snowing now. We got an inch yesterday. I wasn't going to bother wasting the fuel to clean that down to the ice.

At the lake where I keep my boat 112 miles south, the cops are warning people off the ice. Seems there is a lot of open water.

Wifey and I had a very nice belated birthday (hers). She wasn't too interested in going out to dinner, or anywhere else... But we had a very nice day together.

We got a dusting of snow, so I'll do the walks and deck today. After that, no plans in particular.

About 40 out this AM. No maul work today, cut my finger on some wood yesterday. Off to the insurance claims body shop this AM. Wish me luck.

May get the chain saw out if I can beat the neighbor into the woods since I still don't see where he is shooting from. Attempts to see him at his house have been fleeting.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 40° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 62° with plenty of sun. Doctors visit went well. Something as simple as 1500 mg should cure some of the problems wife is having. Back to Neurologists for more test in the future. Going over to Sisters and pick oranges today. Should be a couple of bushels.
Drew, taking outside food to a nursing home goes a long way. I would stop to pickup a Dairy Queen sundae for my mom on my way to visit her. The smiles did not get any bigger.
Eric, I remember having a steam tractor like your engine. Never set the place on fire with it though. Alcohol is a fairly safe fuel. Since a fire from it can be put out by throwing water on it. Had it on 3 of our boats for cooking.

Clean/vacuum Mrs. wood furnace this morning top to bottom...kittens were BIG help might take ride into city give pickup much needed washing than take from there...gotta do enough to earn my supper.

Got both RJ-11 and CAT6 cables pulled yesterday, what a tug-o-war that turned out to be. Wasn't sure the wire would make it around all the bends, so left the conduit unglued until the wire made it through, so then had to have another tug-o-war with that to get it apart and smeared with the sticky stuff. That part's done though, and the cell phone antenna is hooked up and working better than ever. Used to be a good signal in the house was -90 or so db, this morning I measured -77, a huge improvement. Hope the new WiFi antenna works as well, and hope to find out later today.
