34F low this morning, high today 40F. Wife got me a Fitbit charge 2 for birthday, old Samsung smart watch did not work with Moto pure... Gotta get back to counting steps, food intake and getting more exercise.

Does anyone sell any chips or crackers like that?

Yes, but they are very expensive. Kale chips are about 8 time more expensive than potato chips. The crackers I make are better than Mary's crackers and for a small box those are $4.99. The date candy like I make is also quite expensive already made. They do not make tamales without lard or crisco (fatty oils).

The kale chips are done after being in the dehydrator for just 5 hours. Crispy and delicious. Practicing for the Super Bowl party.

Looks like the crackers will need to go till morning, when they will be crispy.
They are scored so the will break into 1" squares.

Do you call the reflective lane markers "cats eyes" ? Percy Shaw, the man who invented them, was by all accounts quite a character who's hometown was not far from where I used to live.

What wiki doesn't say is why he took the carpets out of his house. He would often invite people around to his house after the pub had closed. Once they had drunk his beer, eaten his food and gone home, the inside of the house could then be cleaned out with a jet of water. The tv's were all in the same room - 4 was enough to keep an eye on every single tv station in England at the time !

Good morning all, just on freezing this morning.

So far the wren hasn't touched any food I've put out. I have no meal worms to give, although I'm surprised it hasn't been tempted by the small fatty pellets. Must be one of Don's followers and not interested in junk bird food.

50 and blowing mist, hard rain to come as it creeps up to 54. It's been too warm for the wood stove, so not as easy to shake the dampness off after a walk about. The TV weather lady promises we'll get below freezing again Saturday. It will have been 18 days since the prior freeze, in January.

Eric, we buy the dried mealworms and sprinkle a handful on the front porch each day. The wrens have been roosting under my shelter above the wood splitter in an old phoebe nest that sits on top of a hanger I made for our chest waders. Two of them fluff up to keep warm all night, and are about the first birds to wake up and hunt.

Don, your snacks look great! I'm slowly coming around to kale...mostly in the form of slaw. Ate a helping of collards last night, which took some spicing up to get them down.

Myla chipped a tooth, so try to get into the dentist this morning. Our former dentist retired, so this will be her first visit. I went last month, and liked the new lady. Then take her out for a rainy day lunch and grocery/Costco trip.

45 high of 47 with heavy rain at the moment up to two inches they say before becoming very windy this afternoon. Football games not really good. Not sure what I'm going to do today.

Bad storms in the SE yesterday lots of tornados pray for those in harms way. I believe 18 lost their lives. 2017 is starting off with a lot of violent weather on both coasts

a warm 54 going to 64 today in rain again this afternoon. Forgot to look at rain gauge, but rain was on and off last night, but I think much of what was predicted went around us.

found a good source for pecan trees. Locally they wanted 35 dollars for a one to two foot stick that had just been potted. No...ten years before pecans. So I need to buy larger trees, hopefully to get that down to 3-5 years. Pecan Trees For Sale - Bass Pecan Tree Nursery

learned that I needed to mix type I and type II pecans. Shipping on this stuff is rough but what can I do, I live a bit off the beaten path. I thought under 25 bucks a tree to ship a 7 foot potted tree was fair. Bottom line is there are zero in this area so I need to buy what I can get.
Am getting psyched. Hoped to put in a very large vegetable garden at this location also but when I offered to let my neighbors share in the bounty if they helped with the rototilling and weeding, they begged off. All my friend/neighbor wants to do is ride his lawnmower or my tractor, does not like getting his hands dirty apparently. oh well. I've had my hands in the dirt all my life and could not live without it.

Good morning! Clear skies 49˚ no wind, beautiful day.
Another 5 hours for the crackers and then I need to do a test batch of fritos. They start off with a bag of frozen corn and a blender. I also need to experiment on a no oil or fat added low sugar apple pie tamale. It will have a cinnamon flavored masa outer shell and a date apple and pecan insides.

But first I need to get outside in this nice weather. With the Farmall gone I need to do a major clean-up in the tractor shed. When My niece's husband came by to pick it up in a borrowed trailer he realized the trailer had no license plate. He managed to sneak back to south Houston with the bright red tractor without getting ticketed.

My wife and nephew did a 23and me dNa test and found that they share 24% of their dNa in 35 segments. They were texting all day yesterday comparing, good form of entertainment and education.

Big old nor'easter blowing! 45 mph winds, limbs and small trees coming down in the soaked ground, people that can't associate high winds and trash can flight have donated me another large rubber container, that makes three in 5 years. Rain slamming the windows, dark and dreary, at least its warm, I'm going to binge watch H3ll On Wheels!
