Overcast for the 4th day running. High around 58. Big rains tomorrow and Monday, nor'easter with beach erosion likely.

Woke up and found the expected hard frost hasn't happened overnight, ice on drinking troughs is paper thin. That's good, however I will now have to rethink today as I had planned to cut up wood at the far boundary and now the ground will be too soft to get there without making a mess. I will have to find some other timber to cut, otherwise there will be no excuse to play with the electric chain sharpener again.

View attachment 495913 Good bye old friend, off to the next generation.
Should make the next owner very happy and keep them busy for years to come.

Buckeye, you got the pi up and running very quickly . Incredible how much computing power you can now get for such little money.

47 out this AM. Nice and warm, wet and dreary. When the sun comes up, well, when it is light, off into the woods I go in search of firewood.

Have a great day all. Be safe.

48 going to 55 and more rain. Yesterday was fog and drizzle all day.

Never heard of a pi, but the pic doesn't make it look too appetizing. :)

Eric, I'm waiting for a good freeze here, too, so I can drive the tractor back to cut some firewood without making any ruts. Looking like Saturday at the soonest. I'll probably just walk it and cut some for later pickup.

Well, all other dogs have left our dog "hotel" so Coco is getting a good rest today.

I need to grade a bit on the side of the new barn addition for rain runoff. I didn't do it before building since it was late autumn when I was building it, and knew grass wouldn't grow back. I was also thinking of either installing a French drain, or just installing a 28 foot length of gutter and capturing the runoff in rain barrels. Anyone have any words of wisdom on either approach? With the approaching rains forecast, yesterday I laid some old pieces of galvanized tin roof on the ground to make a ground gutter. Tested it and seems to be working well as a temporary fix.

I had a barn that I moved water away from by installing two gutters, then trenching two 200 foot lines that I installed drain tile in. It was basically a day job, I rented a ditch-witch. I was looking for more to do with it after I trenches the lines. It was that easy.

I found a low spot that the tiles "naturally" fed into, and that was that.

Keeping that barn dry was pretty important as it was the horses primary go to structure for that time.

55 degrees with heavy rain coming in later this morning. Got caught in one downpour last night so strong I had to slow down and put my flashers on, and the Subaru's nannies went offline since the forward facing cameras I guess were unhappy not being able to see much so they alarmed in almost inch high letters in the dash and then about four other yellow warnings popped up saying all the related camera functions were offline.
sort of wondered if this looked like the dash of a plane going down...

I've had these warnings before "up North" when snow and ice would cover the radar sensors on the front bumper.
really getting to dislike driving at night in pouring rain, glare makes it hard to see and sure shows how the roads could use some new paint stripes.
Very few "botts dots" used around here, I was spoiled by their heavy use before, really helps at times. (Eric: Botts' dots - Wikipedia)

Nice little Noreaster working its way up the coast. Anyone have a big snow predicted for this?
