62 this morning and headed to 90 today.

Well hay is cut and dirt work for the bin is started. Gravel was just dumped. Will need to get the forms up this week. I have 2 weeks to delivery and would like the concrete to cure for a few days first.

Need to work on the bin pad some more. Then move some hay off the fields. Have 93 bales to move and close to 2/3 of that cut again. Looks like the fall cutting might be better than the spring.

RNG. Fire departments really don't care what they tear up while they are fighting the blaze. It's a necessary evil. Their goal is fire out. Around here good luck getting forestry to show up with the dozer. It'll be a local farmer that sets in with whatever equipment he has usually to save his own place. Disk, dozer, excavator, ect.

Good morning. 0955, overcast, 78F with 89% humidity. Forecast high of 87F with 60% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 72F tonight. After a blue sky type morning yesterday, we had an inch and a half of rain in 30 minutes about dinnertime.

I'm having to hang around the house this morning. Our 13 year old heat pump went toes up this weekend. {luckily we have two units. With fans blowing from the cool part of the house it hasn't been too bad. 84F during the day, down to 80F at night} My AC guy has his workers here this morning, taking out the old air handler inside, and the unit outside. $4K I hadn't planned on spending this week. If they get out of here in time, I'll still do my shopping trip. The thrift stores will be a bargain, no matter how much camp cookware I find, after what I spent this morning.

Drew, a 22mag is good for bigger varmints. Also had some of my New England buddies {from another site} with a frost warning already. And I have been celebrating lows of 69F.

74F and sunny @ 11:30, high today predicted to be 84F ... good chance of a thunderstorm tomorrow apparently.

The recent rains we've had have everything looking pretty lush and green again ... with the exception of the late summer leaves that are beginning to fall. Need to get the grass mowed as it's around 5" or 6" tall ... but I won't tackle that under after the chance of rain tomorrow passes.

Have to unload the van (again) and then move a good-sized upright commercial refrigerator up to the daycare center. Looks like I scored a free gas forced-air furnace for the polebarn in the process. It's used ... a "pull" from a replacement job a friend did, but the price is right and is apparently in good condition. If nothing else, it will serve as a backup for the furnace in the house, should it fail.

After that I might do a little more wood splitting later ... if it's cool enough.

Yeah ... they are really pretty big (and heavy)

I have some rounds here that are even bigger ... 48" + ...

Needless to say I won't be lifting those whole, even though the lift theoretically could do it.

cooler today, a relief high sixties going to mid 80's. Well it took us until Sept 13 for someone to mention that four letter s word.
off to get a haircut, then back to mow some more. And continue grappling brush. Going to try to drag some logs out onto more level ground; picking heavy stuff up on a slope does not make for comfortable moments. Hoping to get my fireman neighbor to help me this morning.
going downtown to pay for my new to me tractor. Maybe that will get it delivered today. Then not much else will get done...

RS, are you limited by power of the cylinder or the whole thing tipping over from all that weight on one side?

Probably more limited by the likelihood of tipping it.

The cylinder - theoretically - could lift over 3000 lbs at full pressure (2500 psi), given the geometry of the lift (initial angle, leverage) ... no way I'd ever attempt anything near that though (exactly what are ya gonna do with something big after it splits ? :laughing

I made the drawbar pretty long (5' ?) and removable and put an additional hitch receiver on the beam pointing out to the side where the log lift is and made a "foot" out of a piece of pipe and plate that goes underneath the drawbar to serve as an outrigger.

It is very stable so far with the rounds I've lifted.

I run into the same kind of big stuff, boy that looks handy.

It is very handy ... makes it possible to do stuff I couldn't otherwise do, and do it alone ... although having an extra set of hands would be nice at times. Would make it possible to really crank out the splits.

I have the same engine on my walk behind tiller. I changed the oil that shipped in it before using it, and then again after an hour of use. So far, so good.

This one appeared to be dry when I got it ... so I filled it with some straight 30w ... probably should dump and change it out like you did, now that I have a little time on the engine.

I won't forget ... the real question is will it still be warm enough to prep it for paint ?

I have to do that outside, which is one of the reasons I'm kinda hot to trot to get the splitting done now.

The other thing is I still have some more fab work to do on it ... want to get that done before I make it purty ...

successfully cleared all but three 8 foot pieces and left them pulled up on high ground lined up properly
for extraction, and out of the wet ditch. Neighbor pulled the trailer down with his gator, which I bet we had at or over the tow limit for sure.
This 30 inch trunk tree went over the ditch, then the road, and the firemen cut it up and threw everything
on my side. Fair enough. Today it was very muddy there, tore up the ground and made a muddy mess in one spot, decided the last three could sit there for
another couple of days drying out. They aren't going anywhere.

Now headed back out to mow roadsides which have gotten tall with me slacking off playing woodsman.

did take some quick pics of the new arrival, stopping for its first fill up. 169.4 hours; in service date Dec 2012
needs a cleaning and oiling; the dealer did a lube job and changed the oil and fuel filters. Should last me for several years.

Hi guys! Lost a day... I had some good news Monday, my A1C is down over 1 point, now 6.8? I feel really good about it, the 1st good news I've had on this issue in years. Today, I had a great day, I did some plumbing work at my wife's shop, taking a water softener and filter out, we have city water now, the well failed last year, and we had to hook up. Total cost was over $5K. Good news is that the permits alone are now $6,280. That's the permits, actual hookup is now over $3K! But the water is good. I had to solder 6 joints today, and the all worked out the first time. I only had to have water shut off for a hour. Hiring a plumber here to do this would cost at least $300. Little victories, to be sure, but a win all the same.

That's with meds. Without meds, I'd be over 8 pretty quick. And dieting, I have got over mostly, but I used to want a Snicker's bar so bad, I was like a addict. I'd literally dream about it!

Currently floating down the Danube, Wachau Valley Austria, 62°F going to 82°F and Clear.

A cruising morning, docking in Weissenkirchen about 2pm, then a couple of walking tours. Wine tasting this evening.

Spent most of yesterday in the beautiful lakes and mountains region of Austria, the area famous for The Sound of Music. Haven't sorted thru pics yet but hopefully a couple worth posting. Did see a ton of tractors but like on the train, hard to get pic from the bus and no tractors in the villages where we walked. Did learn that the hay bales are wrapped in plastic to allow fermentation instead of in silos like the old days. Actually saw some haying in our travels.

Dinner was our night at the Chef's table where we were presented a sampling of the chef's choices. All quite fancy of course. Nothing I feel compelled to write down for future ordering LOL guess my tastes run a bit simpler. While I tried everything, enjoyed most of it, it was interesting to watch some of our companions not even try just dismiss. All the bread selections were excellent.

Would like to think my walking is comp basting for my eating but...

Ed, already thanked our son and warned him that his inheritance has taken a significant hit.

55 right now...a pleasant 71 as the high with a probability of a thunderstorm.

Took the day off yesterday to do a couple things. The local Deere dealer had a 74" Frontier (Deere branded) snow blower marked way down. Brand new unit ordered by some guy who then decided not to buy it. I did and it was cheaper than the Woodmaxx I was planning to order, plus I don't have to assemble it. Hydraulic chute rotation was included and it's QH compatible (my old Woods blower wasn't QH compatible).
So, this purchase is guaranteed to prevent any snow accumulation this winter...probably next winter too.
Pics were taken at the dealer's lot.

The dealer told me this unit was manufactured by RAD. I hope they're as good as a Woods. Definitely as heavily built as a Woods brand at 715 lbs.

Good morning, everything here still shrouded in mist. Some parts of England had record breaking temperatures yesterday, peaking at over 34C (94F), which hasn't been seen here in September for over a hundred years. Not for us though. My wife thought I was going crazy taking the washing off the line before it was dry, until I pointed over her shoulder to the big black cloud behind. That cloud dumped on us all afternoon, with odd flashes of lightning thrown in for good measure whenever we thought it must surely soon pass over.

Our chalkboard says I have to visit my accountant today. Like many, I used to resent paying taxes. Now this may be a sign of getting old, but nowadays I don't mind too much. Someone has to pay for the schools and our medical service, which is mostly free to everyone in need. Just a pity politicians go and squander so much on other stupid things.


Drew, I agree with the others, your Massey is a real beauty. Now, how long can you resist the urge to start polishing that paintwork ?
