64 right now...a much cooler 74 will be the high today

Good morning. I have just shut the ventilation fan off for a few hours as it is already considerably warmer outside than in. The people in France are sharing their weather with us today thanks to a slow blow from the south.

Forecast here is for 31C/88F. For us that is hot, although I doubt it will do much to stimulate sales of pool shading sails - outside swimming pools are very much a rarity in this part of the world.

70 going to 88 today...and hopefully some rain tonight. We caught the edge of a couple of storms last night, but not much.

Wife having friends over for their weekly yoga session this morning, so I'm headed to the dump, gym, gas station, and Home Depot for the morning after I do a couple of outside things.

RNG, looks like I need to learn from your fox exploits. We have one that has joined the coons up near the porch every night. They dig for grubs and eat fallen sunflower seeds from the feeders, which we have to bring in every night.

Need to pour first cup of coffee. 59° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 82° with sunny skies. Radar shows rain headed my way this morning. Not much planned for today.
Txdon, never heard of Wonder Dust. But info on it says it's what Whipper needs.
Dave S, good repair on your Scag.
Eric, 88° is warm for my area also. Lots of pools around here.
Good Morning All.

Good morning all, 68 this am going to 87 with a 50% chance of storms this pm. Could be a nasty on in the mix. Ran a paper to a Gov. office yesterday for my wife and she forgot to sign it so I had to bring it back and she took it in. Grabbed a couple boxes out of the storage unit on the way back. That is what I got done yesterday. Sister and her husband are bringing my niece and great niece from Phoenix to visit today. Wife wants the lawn mowed before they come so I guess I will get that done, we will see what else.

Eric, Looks like you are hotter than I am today.

Ed

6 , another day another dollar

one for you, one for the tax man
one for you, one for the tax man

dry morning, likely showers again this afternoon into tomorrow.
Dropping car off at shop to get rid of that rattle, hopefully something simple.

Electrical work at barn finished, they did a lot more work than I thought they would do...both interior and exterior panels changed out, looks like a nice commercial install. Not looking forward to the bill....
will take pics today; now with enough juice I have even less than zero justification for not learning to weld.
Nice new dedicated line to electric welder. I have the equipment, the welding table, the scrap steel, watched all my videos and read the welding book. Just not motivated when it's this hot out...well I'll get the welding area organized anyway. My housecleaner's husband is a welder and I still have to get him over here to teach me some weekend.
Am finally getting caught up with big projects on the property where I can think of things like welding.

I should invite RS and RNG here for a TBN weekend and let them organize my barn. I'd be building mini Eiffel Towers soon!

Good Morning! Still warming up from the cold yesterday. DR. waiting rooms were freezing. The Texas sun over the years are not good for the skin as my Dad can tell you. He had some BCC cut off his nose yesterday morning and in the afternoon a plastic surgeon was reconstructing it. Drew, your helper would have learn a lot from my Dad yesterday and he would definitely be wearing a hat today, a big hat, not a baseball cap.

I guess I can add that to my list of things in Texas that can get you stung, stuck, bit and burned.

77 this morning and headed to 94 today. .25 inches of rain yesterday.

Well I got the tub drain plumbed in yesterday. But no mowing as the 10 am rain shower never did dry out. Then had a feedline motor down for my evening walk. So a run to the parts store after hours 6pm. They close at 4. That knocked out the trip to Lowes to pick up supplies for today.

Think I'll run into town to the local store and pay their war price for today's supplies. Need a retro fit box for the closet light and some wire. Then some luaun. To finish the floor. Then onto drywall. But if it drys up I'm mowing today.

Good Morning! 60F @ 6:00AM. Sunny. High 89F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Only beat you by a degree for today's high, Eric. Believe me when I say that 89F is down right pleasant compared to 102F, which is where we look to be headed for the weekend.

I've forgotten what kind of welder you ended up with, Drew. If it's a MIG (GMAW), just set the dials according to the chart (based on the thickness of the steel being welded) and off you go. If it's a stick welder (buzz box or SMAW) you might have to dig around in the owner's manual or on line to find the proper settings, but again they will reflect the thickness of the steel being welded. And both will reflect the diameter of the wire/welding rod as well. Either way, don't be afraid to dive in and give it a try. Work the knobs back and forth to see what they do and you'll quickly get a feel for it. Just don't forget to flip the helmet down before you strike the arc; you'll get a strong reminder if you don't!

I bet you're happy that the plumbing is done, Farmer. Seems like I'm always one fitting shy of the finish, and usually it's several trips before I figure out the right ones. :pullinghair:

Haven't seen foxes for a few days now, but still have their calling cards around. Including in the fiberglass pop top for the van, which I'd laboriously cleaned and sanded. Sure hope Don's cat food bait works. Any idea which flavor would be most suitable?

I see I skipped the morning report yesterday. I was up very early getting ready to paint a pair of doors and the engine bay in the van. I chose a base coat/clear coat paint, so that meant two coats of each. The engine bay was full of nooks and crannies, some of which sent the paint right back into my face, but that took a lot of paint! Got through the better part of a quart of each, not leaving enough for the two remaining doors. More is on the way, scheduled for delivery today. Still don't have a credit card, but they accepted Paypal, and due to the size of the order, shipping was free.

Today I'll prime the wheels, then start sanding the inside of the van. Hopefully there will be enough paint in this next lot to get that done, and perhaps enough left over for the pop top. But I think that'll be stretching it.

72F and sunny @ 09:00 ... headed up to a high of 84F, less humid today.

Yesterday turned out to be a fairly exciting day.

Was cutting out doorways in drywall and managed to trip a smoke detector ... which set off the fire alarm ... throughout the entire building and emptied it out. Fire trucks showed up ... and the crew scoped everything out and decided there was no fire.

It took probably 15 to 20 minutes or more to silence the alarm, which was so loud and piercing that it was painful to hear. No one in the building had a key for it, or knew how to do it. Eventually - after half a dozen trips back and forth - the manager (air head) from the sports bar next door - which the building owner also owns - figured out which key was the correct one to silence the alarm.

The alarm, when it tripped, was showing a different suite number than the one we were in ... so I'm guessing the Fire Marshal is going to want to scope things out really thoroughly, since having an alarm report an incorrect location probably ain't the ideal situation.

After that the plumber and electrician showed up and sucked up a bunch of time jawboning ... and we knocked off early.

Will trim out the last doorway today, so hopefully we should be done with the prospect of setting the alarm off again.

Have to grab some pallets before I go over so we can load up the scrap drywall in the van to haul it out here. It's going in the garden as a soil amendment.

Wife fed the stray cat last night that's been hanging around. This cat looks remarkably similar to The Squeak, coloration-wise ... but has shorter hair. Looks to be a female and appears to be in reasonably good condition ... except for the fact that her ribs were sticking out. She's a little skittish ...

Managed to get a little more Roundup sprayed after I got home.

Are these post-mounted feeders ... or hanging ones ?

If post mounted, you might consider making up some raccoon baffles out of some 6" x 24" round heating duct and a cap so you don't have to bring them in every night.

Only 88° and humid today, big storms yesterday afternoon, 60 mph gusts, very heavy rain, some lightening, I saw 2 funnel clouds at the back edge of the gust front, both spun up and dissipated in a hurry.

I'm a happy camper. Jag fixed for 130 bucks. Loose muffler heat shield, riveted into aluminum body with aluminum rivets; mechanics looked at it, said no way, wired it up with steel wire and anything else that worked and pronounced it just fine. Quiet as can be now, yeah. And they fixed my clogged windshield washer pump, which required all the of the engine plastic cover to be removed to get at. They don't make it easy...
Bill would have been ten times this if I had taken it to a dealer.

going to do a little mowing before the rain comes. Dropping the height of cut down, centipede and bermuda seem to like being cut shorter.

Guy I used to work with got a job at a major airport, as a maintenance guy. First day on the job, he was putting in a new door, cut into a cable running into the control tower. After the airport security got done with him, he didn't have a job there.....

Texas apparently has no monopoly on things that bite and sting.

Had a few minutes this morning to take care of that wasp nest under the propane tank cover. Made up a long piece of 2x2 with a piece of steel screwed to the end to flip up the lid, then hit the nest with a can of insecticide. Hope I got the queen this time, as this is the third encounter with this particular colony. Gotta hand it to the little suckers, though, they picked a perfect spot to lay in ambush, at the same time keeping the nest nice and dry. Bet it gets hotter'n a pistol under that cover with the sun beatin' down though!

WaDaYaThink? Should I leave the nest for the propane man to find next fillup?

Irv,

Fortunately, we didn't cut any cabling ... we were pretty careful about that ... to the point of punching holes and using an inspection camera before cutting.

It was just the dust hanging in the air from cutting that set off the smoke detector.

RNG, I've never seen bees that color green.

Irv, I wonder why he was doing that, trying to tap into a cable or power supply within? geez, ask twice, cut once
ok, reread your post. Probably drilling/sawing through and got something underneath/behind.
