I agree, the high humidity back east was one of the big reasons I got the heck out of there as soon as I could. And yes, once you soak your shirt through with a good sweat, the low humidity here doesn't keep it from evaporating. But without a breeze, you build your own little humid cloud around you, so you're still uncomfortably hot.

<sarcasm>But everything else in Kalifornia is so wonderful, if I didn't complain about the temperatures, what would I have left to complain about </sarcasm>:confused2:
Oh yeah, gotta have evap or it doesn't work. I can remember standing in the driveway in Stocton, it was 112 I believe and the humidity was 4%, you could spray the hose straight up over your head and only see or feel a drop every few seconds, the rest evaporated before hitting the ground.

The summer of 2012. It was 100-110 here. Bad drought no humidity. Dew point in the 30's & 40's. I use evaporate cooling to cool birds. Worked like a charm. Birds thought it was 85 or less all summer. Today it's 86 dew point is 75 heat index is about 95. Those swamp coolers ain't makin' no difference. But rain is a commin'.

Good Afternoon. 1310, sunny, 97F {HI 107F} with 45% humidity. Forecast high of 92F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 77F tonight.

I got a few peach and white oak trees that I started from seed this spring. I have been planting them near my shooting houses and scattered around the farm. Yesterday I walked the circuit to give them all a drink of water. A cloud came up while I was in the woods, and it started pouring rain. I never mind a good rain, but then the lightning started popping. Me, being of scientific mind, was going to count seconds between the flash and the boom, to tell how far away it was. As you all know, you can count out one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three, one thousand four, one thousand five for one mile. Well I started counting, and I got as far as one thou. . . before the boom got there. I didn't take the time to do the math, but I figured it was too close, and the trees were getting watered by the rain anyway, so I left my jugs of water and started toward the house. You've all heard you are not supposed to be near trees when it's lighting, but a quick look around me, and I came to the conclusion there are a lot of trees in the woods. That first minute there were two more strikes just as close as the first one, but none of them hit me, and the storm started to taper off after that. So if I just stop posting one day, it might not be me just being anti-social, it might have been an act of God.

You guys have a good {and safe} one,

Larro

One of the most touching things about Mom's funeral, was the number of people that still pull over for a funeral procession. These are people coming from the other direction.. That doesn't happen where i live.

Appreciate all the well wishes from everyone. Even though it was hot and humid at the farm (no AC), I still love sitting outside under the shade trees catching whatever little breeze that comes along.
Watching the wild turkeys strut by makes it more enjoyable, and the deer grazing in the orchard every night.

Burial was at the back of the cemetary at the little one room country church they attend, same one my maternal grandparents attended. Sign on the front says 1840, and it still has a functional outhouse out back.

Did make it back home, as my son had to work this afternoon.

We cooled our house in Stockton, CA with those evaporative coolers, water ran over the grate and fan blew across it, worked great in low humidity. That's all an AC does is remove the moisture, basically.

Good evening all. started @ 78F this morning, made it to 97F clear skies and windy. Did some cleanup from yeserday's tree cutting and trimming, went grocery shopping with SWMBO, made some headway on the consulting, then after dinner went and shoveled dirt over at stepdaughter's house.

Don, hope whipper gets better. 90F here today, worked with my wife at her shop, did some work on the rental, then did some errands. Too hot for outside work! Our humidity here is usually really high.

Have a good one!

69 right now...heading to 83 today.
Got one fast and furious rain storm (with one very sharp crack of thunder!) late yesterday. It did cool things down a bit after it passed.

Good morning. We had heavy rain during the first hours of daylight this morning. At first glance the fields now look empty, all the sheep having tucked themselves away, hiding under carts and drooping overhanging branches. My wife said only yesterday she has an inside job for me "next time it rains" - fortunately it looks to be drying up. :)

Larro, there is something very special about plants you have grown yourself from seed. When our grandson was here a couple of weeks ago, he asked a lot of questions about seeds in food. Grandma helped him plant a few seeds from a tomato that he had been eating. They quickley germinated and she has been sending him pictures of their progress every few days since.

What a lovely little cemetry Buckeye, it looks so tranquil.

Need to pour first cup of coffee. 66° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 87° with strong thunder storms in afternoon. Got 1.25" of rain from storms around midnight. Not sure it will help lawn. Some area's of lawn will need cutting before weekend is over. Until then back to walking and resting.
Good Morning All.

Good Morning! Just got up to feed and walk Whipper. Walking and resting just like Ron.

Good morning all. Half an inch of overnight rain recently stopped, clear weather for next three days.
Hopefully a little cooler too. I worked out in the heat too long yesterday, sweat too much, came in like a limp rag.
Heavily salted my food last night but I still spent half an hour in the hot tub getting rid of cramps that were forming.
Today nothing heavy, just some errands to run.

70 going to 93. No rain yesterday, maybe today.

Managed to get a bit done in the heat after a trip to the gym. Changed the Kubota fuel and air filters, adjusted clutch and brakes and tried to add more fluid to front axle now that I had driven it a few hundred yards. Wouldn't take any more, so I'll check again soon. I was surprised how dirty the fuel filter was. Took it for a test drive by bush hogging two acres before supper. Temperature gauge got up to about 5 "bars" out of 8, I think, higher than the normal 4, but it was 94 degrees.

Buckeye, I agree with Eric, very nice peaceful looking cemetery.

Good morning all, 69 here this am going to 89, with a 30% chance of thunderstorms. Got a little shower here last evening, but it rained so hard NE of us we could not see the mountains. Over did it a few days ago and will continue to take it easy today.

Don, Glad Wipper is up for the walks, and I hope feeling better.

Ron, Always good to hear that your coffee is on and that you are on the mend.

Daugen, I wonder if food like watermelon would help with the cramps. I just saw where it helps after a workout. At the least it is a good tasting medicine.

Buckeye, Beautiful place and I am sure in time you will be smiling at many memories from this time. Prayers again sent.

Ed
