thanks. doesn't one have to refer to old equipment as she? The new CC I recently bought was named
Bumblebee by the elderly lady I loaned it to. Somehow a new unit feels more like an it. Haven't got into
a relationship yet?...
Makes me wonder how many of us give our tractors names. And for a real farmer, a combine or something big.
Though at 48 years old, I think he/she/it deserves a name. Hmmmm. Grandpa...
I stripped off a bit of underneath equipment and will continue to get it down to a true tractor, something that pulls. Which will be its job, to pull carts
and other equipment sedately around the property. Old enough not to have to mow any more. Though all the parts are carefully put away. I think it looks better without all that stuff underneath and now easier to see if anything is "going on" underneath.
Am loading it on my trailer today to take it down to the dealer to get a few things done I'd rather have them do. They are a CC dealer so I think they'll get a kick out of it, even more than putting a new motor on my Gravely.
I grew up with at least one CC garden tractor, mowing the 7 acres of lawn on our Pa farm. It had the three speed manual trans and that's what I learned to shift on.
We put thousands of hours on that thing and just wore it out. This one I restored had been used a great deal also. And banged into things. Geez I wish they hadn't broken the fiberglass dash in multiple places. Really ought to just swap it out for another one on Ebay or something. They are out there, somewhere. Of course I have to get the original wrecked steering wheel off first. Am asking dealer to try.
This stuff is fun to work on because everything is accessible and most of it I can do. I still wuss out and don't do points. Like learning how to weld, I should just do it.
Farmer, I'm amazed how hard you work, doing all that hay, while doing everything else at the same time. You really do multitask. Must be hard to get away...but at just the right time, when most of the big stuff is done, I hope you can get away. Right now it's hard for me to get away because of my vegetable garden. But I bought a water timer and I'm going to try to rig up a drip system with it.
