Good morning!!!!

what a depressing weather forecast to look at...looks like Texas weather headed here.
Billy, the forecast for the beach is not good all the way through next weekend.
So....I'm calling them today and going to see if I can push the reservation back one week.
Afternoon storms are one thing, day after day of rain is another. Worst case is I take a hit for one night's rental.
I'd rather do that than sit down there in the pouring rain all day.

Today might remain clear until late, highs in the 80's. going to do some weedeating and was going to water shrubs even with the forecast as it is. We've had hot dry weather here for several days, which has done wonders in the garden. Had my first meal of snow peas/edible pod peas whatever they are called, last night and boy were they sweet and yummy. Hard to see the peas; just a mass of green with everything the same color.
And I pulled my first onion yesterday. Some of them are soft and not growing; not sure what is going on there, drainage is good in the raised garden ,not sure why they are going soft. I pulled the largest one, about three inches across and it is headed for a sandwich soon. Georgia sweet onions, probably a Vidalia copy/cousin.
Lastly, I turned off the electric fence and carefully got down into the strawberry patch and picked six strawberries yesterday. Four were not great but two were just as sweet as could be. Didn't even wait to bring them in to cool them off. A little energy on the go...
So far the rabbits haven't found my garden. So far...

Good Morning All. 62 here this morning going to 89 and NO chance of rain. Going to take it easy for a bit today. With the new mattress we bought yesterday they said we need a center leg on the frame. We are putting it on our metal frame bed until we move so I have to brace up the center. Will likely use wood blocks but all 3 of my saws are in the storage unit 30 min away. Will try to figure out something. Looking forward to having a comfortable mattress with no annoying bumps that try to change the shape of my rib cage.

Eric Hope you "little Dutch Boy" work goes well. I assume you have the story of the little Dutch boy who saved the day when he stopped a leak in the dike with his finger.

Sometimes I wake up to find my wife changing the shape of my rib cage too - her excuse for this violence is always "you were snoring", although I can predict I would get the same treatment if I called her an annoying bump.:)

I was always amazed the judge bought the little Dutch boy's story.

Please explain the medieval archer, I know I am missing something.
This tale goes that back in the day when the most high tech and fearsome weapon was the English longbow, the French would try and intimidate the bowmen by saying they would cut off the middle finger of any archers they captured, thus rendering them incapable of ever drawing the bow again. So in battle, the bowmen would show their defiance by sticking two fingers up to the French before starting their volleys of arrows.

70 this morning and headed to 77 today.

If everything goes right today hay season will start. Have 30-40 acres to cut today after a tractor move. Two cutters should knock it out pretty quick.

Drew. Our cold and wet May caused our strawberries to rot on the vine. Good luck with yours. My corn is just coming up good between VE and V1. Beans look to have sprouted but died before emerging. Will try again with the beans after hay season.

Good morning! 64˚ and foggy. Internet is up! All the usual places that flood were flooded yesterday and a few more. Of the 7 ways to town 5 were flooded, requiring a 15 mile detour, and as I came home the road I was on was just being barricaded. I think it was being baricaded a little early it only had a inch of water running across it but it was rising. That paticular creek is a 24 hour creek, in that the water rises only after 24 hours after the rain. It is a deadly crossing because of this.

Kyle, How did you fair with your foot of rain? Because of the flooded roads Elgin was closser than Giddings yesterday. Is Hwy 77 open at Rabbs creek going to LaGrange?

Edit: Kyle, disaster documentation filed:

It's a great story, been around for a while, and I like it, and the story fits the gesture, but (sorry to do this) unfortunately it's not true.

65 going to 90 again.

Drew, the tropical depression looks to be headed to Emerald Isle and Cape Lookout by Wednesday...forgot when you are planning to go. For a pedometer, I use a Fitbit...you don't have to have a Smartphone, although the app is really nice. You can sync your steps to your laptop, or tablet, if it has a USB. What I like about it that is it lightweight on the wrist - I forget I have it on, it is very accurate compared to a couple of other devices I used, and it measures your sleep patterns. Having friends in your "group" to compete with is also a nice feature.

Hope you guys in Texas can dry out now.

Got my spaying done yesterday...mixed up 50 gallons of gly at 2% and had about 10 gallons left when I finished the foodplots...so drained it into empty 2.5 gallon containers, and used up half so far in my 2.5 gallon hand held sprayer by walking around and attacking poison ivy and fence line weeds.

Eric, like your new avatar...is that your alien mass in the FEL?

All you folks on the east coast need to make sure your waders are leak free. And batten down the hatches.

Don, Rabbs creek was high, but not up to the bottom of the bridge (last night a bit past 8pm). The family faired well, thankfully the house is a bit higher than than the spillway of the pond. According to Google Earth, we are about 14' above the spillway. A whole lot of other things will get flooded before we do.

My neighbor was up all night, he is on the VFD. They were doing water rescues.

79.3F and clear ... @ frickin' 09:30 ...

Got the frame for the soil screen pretty modeled up in formZ before I went to bed, didn't mess with finishing the cut list or unloading the steel, as I was pretty tired.

Yesterday afternoon, around when it hit the high of 86F, it was feelin' like a steam bath outside in the sun ... can only imagine it will be more of the same today.

I'm not really acclimated yet ... so might have to unload that steel and turn on the AC in the shop and spend a little time in there later today, while the sun and the heat does it's drying thing.

Woman and I got the last of the dahlias planted last night ... we'd planted three pots the night before, these last ones went into the ground over by where she planted the first ones.

They were all supposed to be split ... apparently she'd had a look at a video on how to do that awhile back and couldn't figure it out ... so now I've been tasked with the research ...

Should wind up with 30 or 40 sets by the time it's all said and done I would think.

Nice day, 77 going to 86 with a good breeze and some clouds. Picked up Grand-son #3 about 24 hours ago he is 33 months old and full tilt or sleeping.. So that don't leave much time for anything else. When he gets up from his nap I will take him home and when I get back I will take a nap. ;) Holiday party tomorrow it his other grand parents house. Saves us the mess.
Power was out for three hours yesterday evening so the gen set got a good workout. It needed new gas anyhow so this helped drain it down some.

Make sure you add our true hero fallen soldiers to your prayer list this weekend. Freedom ain't free.

Got into the 90's here today, and humid. Sure was a change from the 60's last week. Been busy working on a barn project at our church building, putting new front on the building with new garage doors. I've been doing the work, but we did hire a contractor to do some inside work to speed things up. Next weekend is our church's neighborhood pig roast, we are cooking a 200# one this year, free meal for our neighborhood.

Tried to buy a new car today, but walked out when the contract price came back $1400 more than I was expecting. They went running to their sales manager, I said I don' t play games and walked out. Hate wasting time like that. I will check out the costco buying service, although their dealer is further away. I've had good luck in the past buying on the internet, but this time the internet price given apparently had some fine print disclaimer, so the price offered wasn't their real price. Before that even happened, when they started asking how long I wanted to finance, I said I have a check in my pocket to pay for it, they said Oh, if your paying cash, it will cost more as our internet price. I thought it odd at the time, but they said it's cheaper to finance it with them, then pay off the loan later.

Weatherbug not showing any rain here except chance of a thunderstorm next couple days.

Got the new mattress set up and the bed made, I can hardly wait. Might sleep past noon. Hope I sleep so well I won't need to sleep so long. I normally get about 6 hrs and fill in the gaps with a nap now and again.

THANK YOU to all of the guys and gals who have served us and helped us keep our safety and freedom. We owe you a lot. Ed

74 outside currently.

All the hay equipment is at my house for the time being. That means an additional 2 tractors to park. It would just be nice if we had another heavy truck, as mine does all the hauling and that means my schedule gets filled with 2 hour trips.

Dad came out and we ran both cutters for about 3.5 hours. Managed to cut about 25 acres. Will be a nice opening cut. Then about 12 more acres here and then move to dads hay fields. For about 50 acres. He cuts those on halves. We quit when dads cutter broke. Part of the frame that holds the curtain up broke and fell off. It's now welded back together and ready to run again. We will bale this before cutting any more.

Good morning, talk of an odd thunderstorm later on, but for now it's sunshine all the way.

farmer, sounds like your new hay rake is about to start earning it's keep. You are fortunate not to have to spend days on end with a tedder while waiting and wishing for a good breeze to arrive.

Eric, like your new avatar...is that your alien mass in the FEL?

That's right, it is one of the least scary pictures of the all-consuming alien swamp monster as I didn't want Ed to have nightmares when he is sleeping in his comfy new bed.

I may have to resurrect the old Alien Invasion thread soon. The thing is back with a vengeance, so I could do with some more moral support and new suggestions from the good people of TBN, as soon as I can get the leaks in my waders down to less than a pint of pond water per minute. The Alien is back with new tactics, so I need a new plan of attack ...

It's a great story, been around for a while, and I like it, and the story fits the gesture, but (sorry to do this) unfortunately it's not true.
Well I'm gutted to hear that. No wonder I never did well in history at school. Next you will be telling me the Vikings didn't really wear helmets with horns sticking out :)

Need to pour first cup of coffee. 66° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 82° with chance of thunderstorms. Things are getting very dry here. Non of the forecast rain has hit our place. Son and grandson helped a lot yesterday. Nut the full load of mulch is still in the trailer. Oh well, without rain not much is growing. Going to relax today and then watch some Indy and NASCAR racing.
TX and others in bad weather be safe.
Good Morning All.

Good Morning All. 59 here this morning going to 80. 50% chance of storms this afternoon. Plan to take it easy today and just continue to rest up for the coming week.

Just looking at the radar this morning it looked like Bonnie was getting shown up by the Texas rain, but then everything is bigger in Texas. You guys be careful out there, and let us know how you are doing. Ed

62 right now...heading to about 87 today. Maybe a thunderstorm.

Busy day yesterday. Had to go in to work to standby for a technician to repair one of our CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machine). Once back home, took a nap, then mowed the front yard in the late afternoon and the field in the early evening.
If I can get my weed wacker started, I'll be doing some trimming today.
