Good morning all. 52 here this morning going to 57. 70% chance of rain but less than 1/10 called for. Ran errands yesterday, went to 11 different places and took all day. A day like that is more work than a day of work. Hope to get some things packed up in the shop today, actually I need to pack some things in the shop but don't want to. Much rather do something else, most anything but it has to be done.

Have a great day, Ed

Good Morning! Cloudy, 65˚ had a storm blow through last night and dump 2.3" of rain. The mechanic with my BH parts should be here in 10 minutes, I hope he can get past the low water crossing.

Filled an empty 30 pounder at the propane store, 15 bucks. Have no idea how many gallons are in there. Is propane 7 or 8 pounds a gallon too?

Google is your friend, Drew. Found this about half way down the page of search results:

"How many gallons are in a 30 pound propane tank?
New propane tanks have a 12 year certification vs. reconditioned tanks have a 5 year test. LPG Capacity: 7.1 Gallons. This is a 30 Lb Aluminum propane cylinder usually used for R.V. 's or boaters due to weight, and corrosion resistant. It weighs 18 lbs empty, and 48 lbs full, it measures 12.28 x 28.2 inches."

There's some "it depends" in there, too, as the weight depends on temperature, and I found a range of 4.20 - 4.24 lb per gallon quoted by various on line sources. I wouldn't want to be moving nearly fifty pounds very far, either.

Good Morning! 71F @ 5:30AM. Sunshine and a few clouds. High 94F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.

We'll hit a new high for the year if the forecast is accurate. People get all excited about Global Warming, but in my first year as a new homeowner I was landscaping the front yard in May of, I believe, 1986. The neighbor had rototilled the entire yard for me, and I was trenching for a sprinkler system and then leveling and smoothing once it was in, and that week the temperatures were at or over 100F each day. And that's the way it's been pretty much every year for me here in Northern California, so these temps seem right in line.

With judicious application of various implements of destruction (4 1/2" angle grinder, demolition saw, die grinder, various drills, and even a 2 pound sledge driving a paint scraper!), the top on the Westfalia is finally off. Fortunately it's mostly holes so it doesn't weigh much, and I was able to easily lower it to the ground with no assistance. My next challenge was to find a sheltered place to put it. The garage is chock full, the storage trailer is stuffed, but the front porch was available. Hopefully that Devil Wind will hold off playing any tricks until I can get it welded onto the other van.

There are a few nut plates still welded to the floor of the donor, and several measurements for holes and such that are probably better made from paper patterns or rubbings than with a tape measure, so that ugly burnt orange hulk will be around for a while yet. And with a little luck I'll get the trailer borrowed again and drag the Syncro van home before the end of the week. Fortunately the on line guides I'm using say there are many fewer spot welds to cut to remove that roof!

Happy Hump Day everyone!

56.9F and partly cloudy @ 09:40 ... looks awfully sunny out though.

Just woke up a bit ago ... and just got a call from "Scott", the guy from Dominion East Ohio that was going to be onsite when we dug the test pits to get the upper parcel perc'd for septic. Nice guy.

He was wanting to know if I owned the property to the East ... and if I didn't, if I knew who did. So I gave him the 4-1-1.

Turns out he was walking the area that they had been logging as we spoke, surveying the damage. Seemed a little excited about the 2' deep ruts over top the gas lines.

And a-yup ... gas lines are still active ... and they peak out 1600 psi.

Dunno who called him ... or whether he was just out there on some kind of routine inspection.

Wanted to know if the loggers were Amish ... sounds like they may have had some previous experiences along those lines. Dunno.

The real irony of this is that it was raining yesterday ... and if they had waited about 10 days it probably would have been a lot drier, much less impact to the soil I'm guessing.

Of course, it probably wouldn't have made any diff as far as the wetland area was concerned.

SMH ...

Yea! BH is fixed. Mechanic said it was a good thing to replace the cylinder instead of trying to bend it back. He said the between the rod shattering and a leaking seal, new is the only way to go. The re-threading of the busted hydraulic line through the inside of the BH was the most challenging job he had.

The insurance decreased payment 10% for "parts depreciation" on both parts and labor. I do not think they should take it off on labor.

I don't understand the rain last night. Other COCORAHs rain reporting stations all around me reported about 1/2" and my 2.3" is way out of line.

Been a bit pre-occupied with some things so I have some catching up to do.

Don,

Glad to hear you got the BH fixed and that you seem to healing up ok from your encounter with Spidey ...

Gary,

Happy (belated) birthday ...

RNG,

Lookin' good on the van ...

Maybe I'm fat fingering something, but the cited link seems to be more about plowing snow than jousting?

?? it goes right to a page showing a tractor holding a big long tree out the front. And about three more guys piled in with their jousting rigs...pics over two pages.

A bit of sun so far, not much, like Drew's friend up the road in Delaware, rain 17/21 days, clouds 19/23 days. I'm ready for sunny and hot!

Kyle, mice will eat spiders and bugs that way.

Mostly, being ahead of your paperwork, aaahhhhhhhh.
but rain is no good for your cycling.

now if only I were a filer and not a piler.

rain stopped here, have a day and a half break in the forecast, so tomorrow is mow day. Then Friday night something big must be coming through.
Perfect timing for my house guest coming down, delivering my new toy to me, arriving Friday afternoon before the rain.
And Saturday we spend the day working inside the barn, listening to the rain pound on the metal roof, and we build the old Cub Cadet.
Sounds like a winner to me. Made sure the barn fridge was stocked with beer. Unsweetened iced tea for me.

I agree, did you tune in the Outer Limits? :D

by any eeny weeny chance could it be because I'm looking at this on a 27" monitor as I sure don't have 397 pages on that thread even showing as existing on my pc...weird.

Pages numbers of threads are determined by individual settings of how many posts to display per page - they are not absolute but rather relative to the viewer and their prefs.

Individual post numbers are carved in stone however.
