66°F and no rain last 24 hours.

Mechanic comes today to install water pump. Ready for him. Changed the filters, new oil, new coolant ready for when back together. I had told wife that if for some reason Larry wasn't available today or tomorrow I'd install it myself. After cleaning the surfaces and making new gaskets my determination was tight quarters were the greatest challenge. I'd rather keep Larry happy just in case of a future need being I know very little about working on diesels.

Be safe
Have a great day

A rainy 55, with 71 on the way. More rain, off and on, all week. I priced a few new trucks over the internet yesterday...wow on the features and double wow on the prices. It's been 15 years since I was "truck shopping." I also looked at the Costco Auto purchase process and it looked pretty good...they connect you to local dealers that have pricing Costco negotiated...not sure if better than I could do on my own, but heard back from one salesman with a price much less than I expected and less than True Car suggested. Of course I haven't seen it on paper, yet, so there may be some add-ons. Anyone familiar with the Costco program?

Sorta used Costco when we got the 2012 Tundra. Negotiated a price over phone with salesman who had previously sold us a vehicle, not returning the calls from the Costco generated contact. When we went to sign the paperwork, I pulled out the Costco letter and gave to him saying, "what am I supposed to do with this? He replied, " you were supposed to give to me at the beginning. Let me talk to the manager." He came back with a $1500 price reduction. I was happy.

We got our June Readers Digest today and it had a article about dehydration.

There was a study and it showed that mild dehydration may impair heart function and contributing to artery hardening as much as smoking.
The study was done on young healthy males but it is a reminder for us to drink often especially now in warmer weather. When we get older our sence of thirst diminishes and that's why we dehydrate easier.

With 2 trips to the ER for dehydration I consider my self an expert now. My DW (dear wife) has warned me next time she is not taking me to the ER I'll have to call an ambulance. I set a timer on my phone every hour and stop to hydrate.

Don, are you drinking enough beer?
sometimes the answer is simple...:D

More beer is better.

I had a good day, just got back from my neighbors, I tilled up a garden spot for them. The Kubota with a 72 inch tiller made short work of it. A good day!

You can get badly dehydrated drinking beer. A few friends and I floated the James river one day and I drank water the other guy in my boat drank beer. He was very dehydrated and his legs cramped so bad he could not walk on them. Some water and salt and he was fine. Ed

The old timers claim panther is some of the best meat you will ever taste. Never tired it, but I'm thinking young cat would be tender.

Never had possum stew, but I can highly recommend it baked with sweet potatoes. Salt and pepper to taste, wrap foil around meat and potatoes. Bake at 350F until potatoes are done.

Drew,
When you are severly dehydrated you see a beer and want to throw up, you see an IV bag and that is all you want.

Alcohol and partially dehydrated = cramps like Ed said.

What a difference a day makes :)

So I get up this morning and have to crank up our poor little Honda 2000 to bring up our aging batteries while I'm reading TBN.

By noon our primary generator is fixed except topping off the newly changed fluids. Mechanic showed up before 9 with his helper. Of course things are never as easy as they should be. While this was a dealer supplied replacement part, turned out not the be the perfect swap. Several of the hose clamps had to be replaced as the new hose must have been thicker. The main radiator hose clamp didn't fit because the casting was a tad larger. The nipple between the pump and thermostat was longer and had to be cut as the original was not threaded. Thankfully it runs great and is back in service. But I honestly think I'll replace it earlier than planned. I don't like equipment that become problematic early in their lifespan.

By 5PM, my trailer is backed into the trailer shed, loaded with a "new to me" MEP 803A, 10kw military generator. Will off load and hook up tomorrow. Not sure if I mentioned, but my back up generator, Ridgid 8000 runs, but only puts out 44hz. With almost 500 hours and not the first time with problems, I refuse to throw more money at it. Gasoline gensets run 3600 rpm and aren't particularly known for longevity. Of course I still need backup so had been researching alternatives since return from vacation. This military surplus unit came on CL Fri, looked at it Sat, researched all weekend. My first choice was the Kubota GL1100, but that would have barely left enough to take wife to dinner with the change from $9k. Not in my budget. My requirements included being capable of auto start without reprogramming my system and be capable of battery bank charging and most if not all the house loads, so 10k is probably minimum. Anything I found with that capability in a gas unit was in $3k range and that was assuming the auto start mod was possible. Capable LP units consume almost 2 gal/hr. At nearly $5/gal, not in my budget. So I went with the milsurplus unit. Diesel, enclosed, auto start mod available for $400, will do 10kw 24/7, extended surge to 133% without complaint and do 15kw before tripping overload. Engine and Alternator are Onan. Seller uses these plus 30 & 60 kW to run his farm. His maintenance guy is a source of parts and help. Most likely better than my Phoenix based dealer.

Life is good :)

Good Morning all. National Weather Service says it is -18 celsius and that is -.4 f so I think I will stay inside today. The thermometer says 54 so I might Be able to get out after all. supposed to go to 73.

Backed the truck and box trailer in to load some shop equipment last evening and hope I can get out. Got .16" of rain last night and it is already wet. We will see. The guy is coming to get the Massey sat an I will help him load everything. Glad it sold but it will be a sad day as well. Going to move some more stuff to the storage unit today if the rain is not to bad.
Ray you have all of the fun, you ought to share.

Have a great day Ed

64 going to 84 today with showers coming in late afternoon.
Oldest brother and wife visiting, no time for anything but to say guys I was kidding about the beer.
Alcohol I was told was the worst thing to drink.
My favorite is an ice cold diet peach Snapple, second though sometimes first, plain old water.

off to chop fruit for breakfast, eggs and sausage, and these two get up early. Well, not this early...
kitchen staff always has to get up early. ;)

Drinking first cup of coffee. 51° with overcast skies this morning. Heading to 70° with cloudy skies. Wife thinks we have things ready for weekend get together. I need to do some lawn furniture cleaning. Then I can get back to my normal outside projects.
David S, a military surplus generator sounds interesting.
Good Morning All.
