Good morning! 69˚ hazy after a 93˚ day yesterday. I had a choice yesterday of trimming a tree or raising an antenna. I went up 10' on the antenna. That side of the house is looking pretty busy with with 2 pole antennas 6 guy wires the central air and the electric poles.

The BH parts are in and the mechanic is scheduled to install them today. A Cool front with rain and hail are headed this way today also, this could get interesting.

Wngsprd, what was the advantage of going through Costco?

64.7F and overcast ... high predicted to hit 78F today with thunderstorms.

We didn't really get much in the way of precip yesterday, in fact the sun peeked out at several points. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny but cooler.

Got the 3PH frame for LPGS all welded together yesterday, along with splitting 4' of 6" x 3 1/2" x 1/2" angle into a 6" flat and 3" flat. Also cut the tabs for the lower pins for the lift links off that 3" flat and got them drilled out. Was tired so I knocked off around 22:00.

Will get those welded on today, mebbe along with the seven caps for the tubes. Also need to get that carb on the Simplicity pulled today and get it rebuilt so U. B. and I can trailer it in and cut the weeds cut at the commercial property.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but day 15/18 that is cool, cloudy and dreary, more rain tomorrow.

   / Good morning!!!! #45,666
Good morning all. 67F this morning cloudy with some chance of rain according to weather guy but not very likely at the house . Trace of rain last night with all the thunderstorms running around, I thought we might get more. Haircut and pampas grass off the list, need to get remote computer work done.

Good Morning! 63F @ 6:50 AM. Plenty of sunshine. High near 90F. Winds light and variable.

This'll be the warmest day of the year so far, and the grasses are drying out accordingly. Golden State, here we come.

WNG, curious if you bought one of the Consumer Reports printouts on the Tundra before you went the Costco route, and if so, how did your price compare to what Consumer Reports said was dealer cost? Regardless, I hope you're happy with the new truck. I liked my 4Runner OK, but I liked the 4WD SR5 pickup I had before it more. The cab was quieter, especially when the 'Runner was loaded with gear, and smelled better, especially when the 'Runner was hauling something unsavory (like buzzard pie).

westyRoofDrilling.jpg

Started yesterday by pulling the windshield on the donor van in order to get at the spot welds that hold on the roof. The glass had a foot long crack in it already, but I somehow managed to cut enough of the seal away to remove it all in one piece. Then I used a knotted wire brush in the 4 1/2" angle grinder to clean the paint off the drip rails and corner posts to uncover both the spot welds and the brazes on the posts. Got maybe 2/3 of the driver side drip rail welds cut, but not enough to allow the roof to pop up and let me know I'd cut deep enough.

spotWeldCutter.jpg

I was using the cutter in a battery powered drill, and it did a pretty nice job of quickly slicing through the metal. The point in the middle is spring loaded, and it takes a lot of pressure to get it to retract, which keeps the cutter centered on a center punched divot on the spot weld. By the end of the first hour of whack-drill whack-drill, my wrists and forearms were sore, the drill was very hot, and I'd chewed through the charge in both batteries I had for the drill. That's when I learned that the charger didn't like the old batteries anymore, reporting that both of them were defective. Then I found that HomeDepot.com wants an astonishing $100 PER BATTERY for replacements! With four or five tools that use the same battery, I'm pretty much locked in to replacing the batteries, but I might end up with a Chinese knock off from Amazon. But first I'll give the local Batteries + a shot at rebuilding the old ones. Anybody here use their service before?

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin!

   / Good morning!!!! #45,668
some of those new 80V batteries are 170-180 bucks apiece. Yikes...
power to the people comes with a price.

Pulling into my driveway a small car followed me. Ok...older guy stepped out, went to the trunk of his small car, pulled out a five foot tree, and introduced himself, now I recognized him, owner of the local plant nursery down the street, very run down place, perhaps they are slowly winding it down. He said his wife knew I wanted a persimmon tree, and they had sold me one last year, but she wasn't sure we got a persimmon or something else, and she sent her husband over with a persimmon tree she said would bear the beautiful fruit I saw. Now wasn't that nice of her...

And I will reward that by buying a bunch more plants from them, particularly if they have closeouts. Another fifty empty holes waiting for something. The operative word is cheap and evergreen. And no more leland cyprus or arborvitae. So I'm going over to see what he has.

That was the same lady who gave me a bottle of home made pear sauce from pears grown on the trees she sold me. And of course this year their pears and my pears all lost their blossoms to that late frost. But, then another year to get bigger and stronger.

Well, she's upping the marketing ante, first delicious pear sauce and now a very nice persimmon tree.
Let's see, Lowes or these folks?...

certainly put a smile on my face

Throw away the possum, and eat the potatoes!:D

I was just a kid when my Granny cooked this dish for me, but I remember it being very tasty. It was a while back. I was about 9 years old at the time. This particular possum will always be remembered, as how he was the first animal to go into a large game bag Mamma had made for my Christmas that year. And he was also the first animal to bite me through the new game bag and {thankfully} a thick coat. If you have ever wandered where the expression playing possum comes from. . . .

62 this morning and headed to 78 today. Currently 75. Storms later. 1.25 inches of rain overnight.

NWS confirmed an EF-2 tornado yesterday. About 20 homes and at least one church damaged. A few barns and lots of trees. It was hopping not on ground consistently. But path is around the 10-15 mile mark. Too muddy today for cleanup.

Have some errands to run. Too wet to do much.

Wngsprd, what was the advantage of going through Costco?

Glad your BH is on the mend.

Using the Costco service...
- I got an email and call from the participating dealer for the vehicle I wanted asking to set up a time to drive it and look at the numbers.
- upon arrival, I got to see the invoice and the special Costco pricing
- the price was significantly better than any other internet quote from 5 other dealers - maybe if I took time to visit them I could have negotiated as good a deal, but the Costco-based quote was already as good as the best price Consumer Reports' True Car based service showed on any recent area sale, and 1,500 below the average. I found what I wanted, felt good about the price, got outstanding service, and drove off happy (and a little nervous since it felt twice as big as my 4Runner). It came with a full tank of gas, and the display said I had a remaining driving range of 606 miles...of course when I go to fill it up again, it'll probably take an hour and a few thousand to fill it up.
- for completing a satisfaction survey, I get a 50% off parts and service (up to $200) coupon. Not planning to use it.

!

I know what you mean...hauling trash to the collection station in the back of the 4Runner in August after having been sitting out in 100 degrees for a few days.

I didn't buy the Consumer Reports doc, but used their website and some info gleaned from some of the Tundra and Tacoma forums. I actually intended to buy the Tacoma, which was impressive, but saw many advantages of the Tundra for me.

wngsprd, welcome to the Wonderful World of Tundras!

I have a '13 after years of GM products and I still grin every time I get in the thing after 3 years. I didn't even look at Tacos as I still need some serious towing capacity on occasion and the price spread and mileage difference between the two just isn't enough to convince me.

Prayers for all those suffering from these storms. I still want a tornado shelter below ground. There's an old song about no where to run, no where to hide. I can't sleep at all during a thunder storm.

Tundras are great trucks. Hope it lasts as long as your last Toyota. I had one of the first Tundras back in 99 or 2000, it was an extra cab and I needed more room. It had the 4.7 V8 that was available back then. Only got 15-16mpg with my driving style. I replaced it with a suburban that got comparable mileage, but not nearly as trouble free.

I could never bring myself to eat possum, but coon ain't bad done correctly. I can eat squirrel and rabbit, but squirrel is a little greasy, like bear meat.

My great-grandfather used to say the best opossum was the one you locked in the corn crib for a week to clean out. He said it took the grease out. Dad says coon isn't bad. I've never had either.

Wife has a requirement for the new house. A basement or underground storm shelter. I like a basement. Just have to get her to cut down the foot print a little. Currently all plans end up being over 4000 sqft with basement added. Who needs that much room. Just more junk.

Glad your BH is on the mend.

The wrong part came in the right box and the rod was 8" short. Try again next week.

the electrical problem rose it's ugly head again and the tractor would not start. The mechanic turned on the emergency flashers with nothing on and they did not flash. From this he surmised it was not the ignition switch or anything in the dash area. He quickly found a sort in a connection about 4" from the battery behind the headlight assembly. I did not see this connection. I think he fixed it so the day was not a total waste. It never did rain.
