I had some weird chest pains yesterday morning, which brought on the anxiety.

I had a friend that used to donate blood quite regularly. One day he went in to donate and half way through it the nurse asked him what he had for dinner the night before. I forget what exactly it was, but it was something with lots of fat and cheese. She told him he'd have to come back later because his blood was clogging up their machine. I seem to remember something about it being a plasma donation where they separate out the blood parts. She recommended a low fat diet for 24 hours before making a donation. That's a pretty clear indicator that low fat might not be a bad idea all the time...

That is why hospital cardiac ICUs fills up around the holidays - high fat meals = chest pains.

At one of the heart seminars I attended one Dr. showed pictures of blood drawn from his patients. One was regular blood and one after a fatty meal - WOW - that made a believer out of me. Kind of like seeing lungs of a smoker vs. non smoker.

I shouldn't be up this early on a weekend...but here I am...

51 degrees right now...high of 62 today.

I started mowing the lawn yesterday and I'll finish today. The grass really sprung up with all the rain we've been having over the last week or so. I do need to put new blades on, but I'll finish this mowing first. The annual maintenance on the mower will be done this weekend too, if I can get to the dealer this morning.
After mowing...well, still need to stack the wood that fell over. This is a real PITA...I had two stacks which settled over the winter...it was the rearmost stack shifting that caused the front stack to go over, so both will have to be re-stacked. I guess I'll put a few hours into that, after I mow..

45.9F and clear @ 04:15 ... high today of 71F with a 50% chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Best chances for rain don't arrive until after 14:00 ... so I have time to mow the front ... but not until after I change the engine oil in the Kubota.

After picking up (and unloading) steel, I spent most of the day in the seat yesterday, moving ash logs, cleaning up the debris around the wood chip pile and adding it to the big compost pile. Also did a little more grading on the area I'm clearing to smooth it out and fill in the depressions so there aren't places for water to stand. Moved around 20+ bucket loads of mulch down to the planting bed between the east yard and the drive down to the polebarn and got it mostly raked out and spread around.

Probably work on cleaning/rebuilding the carb on the Simplicity once the rain starts.

Good morning all. 45 here this morning going to 71. Only 30% chance of rain so I hope I can mow some of my Mother-In-laws today. Mowing everything has been to much with a 60" deck so no way I am mowing everything with a 42". She will likely throw another fit but she will ether get over it or not, I can't fix her and even if I could it ain't my job. She will have to get someone else to mow as of the first of June anyway because we will move soon after that.

Don I have seen X-rays of a blocked artery in someones heart that after a year of very low fat diet the artery was not blocked anymore. That made a believer out of me. If I see that I got something at the store and it has to much fat I throw it away. Sometimes I forget to check. Better the fat in the trash than in me.

Hope everyone has a great day Ed

47 going to 67...probably more rain and already had some this morning, so this is day 11.

Wow, lots of folks up early on a Saturday.

Had my first ride in an ambulance yesterday. Real nice EMTs, one a young med student at VCU, one my age wearing a Kubota hat.

Was coming home from the gym and had to stop for a car making a left turn across traffic, a few vehicles ahead on a two lane highway. All of a sudden I heard and felt a truck rear end me...wham,...pushed me ahead and slammed me into the SUV stopped in front of me, so wham again. I checked out okay from the x-rays and CT scan, but my 4Runner is a goner...377,000 miles, was hoping to see at least 400K. So several scrapes and bruises, and a very sore neck and shoulder got me up several times during the night.

I was put in the ambulance fairly quickly, and so don't know who the other drivers are, but they were okay. State police and Ashland town police were there.

I guess I'll be back in the truck market...RNG, how about a nice used Vanagon?

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 49° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 68° with thunderstorms in the morning. Not much planned today. Neighbor wants a area leveled for his chicken coup. May work on that after storms leave area.
Good Morning All.

Good morning 42 degrees now headed to high 60's today. I got the mowing thing for today if rain holds off. The weather just seem to be extreme one way or the other we were in drought mode now it's rain last week and rain in forcast every day this comming week. Not complaining just saying, i would much rather have the wet than the dry. everyone have a great day.

Now I resemble that and I must say that I've never worn a cowboy hat in my life...:D
I'd go with the Ram and the Ecodiesel. Gosh it's always fun to spend other folk's money.
Billy, glad you are ok. Really sorry that happened to you. Neck may be sore for awhile and maybe one of those microwaveable heat wraps would help.
I use them all the time for other reasons and they often work wonders.

With my fused neck, I honestly worry about becoming a quadraplegic after a hit like Wingspread got. Makes me think
I ought to be driving a Volvo instead but a big truck has a lot of crush space in the rear for sure. It's how much G force is transmitted
to our bodies that matters.

wasn't there an old wive's tale that drinking a glass of grapefruit juice would wash all that bad fat away?
A magic elixir...
Eat like a pig and then wash the bad stuff away.

I got jabbed by the arthritis doc yesterday who said I had lost only one pound since the last time I saw him, and my number one priority was to lose
twenty pounds. Same advice as last time. This time, I'm going to surprise him, and maybe myself, and get it done.
He told me I wouldn't be able to keep doing what I was doing much longer unless I lost the weight. Not sure how that will help my
aching neck; does going on a diet shrink the weight of one's head?
But it does apply to the arthritis now going into my feet, making it harder to walk for hours on end. It's that mobility I worry the most about.
All I have to do is pick up a twenty pound sack of bird seed to quickly see what I am hauling around unnecessarily.
Getting rid of that would sure lighten my step.

All common sense and yet not so easy to do. Requires focus and attention and it seems that is often elsewhere.
I just have to stay out of the fast food places. They draw me in like a magnet. No fast food, no ice cream, it's a matter of no no's.
Agree on enough of them and only the good food is left.

Did you know if my info is correct the average human head weighs 20 pounds

Since we are spending other people's money Billies in particular how about a 3/4 ton Ford King Ranch with all the goodies heated steering on down to heated and cooled seats wow. Or for safety factor a Mercedes G Wagon a true tank on wheels with amg package heavy safe and very fast oh I'm dreaming my own dream now. It doesn't hurt to dream does it?

Did you know if my info is correct the average human head weighs 20 pounds

It feels like a very heavy bowling ball at times, funny, makes me wonder if I could rest
my head on the bathroom scale, would that give an accurate reading.
I actually do have a fat head. 7 7/8 hat size.
Hard to find hats that fit. Nothing worse than a tight hat that puts the squeeze on you from the getgo.
It seems my neck gave up. And since that work stoppage, I'm wondering if the grievance was proper.
Like in my head was 24 pounds or something. And those discs said they were so out of there.;)

I wonder what the accurate way of weighing a human head is...preferably still attached.

ok, off to plant shrubs.

Billy,

Thanks for the notes, and the truck ideas. I don't think I'll get much from insurance, so I'll be digging deep into my pockets to pay for a new truck.

The truck that hit me was one of those big Freightliner/MB Sprinters or Ford Transit type vehicles...I didn't get to see it well...but I know the guy in front of me was in a brand new looking Buick SUV. Sorry for his damage, but his looked a lot better than mine.

wngsprd sorry to hear of your accident yesterday-glad to hear you are ok. There is certainly something to be said for driving big vehicles. About 20 years ago i was sitting at a stop outside Boston in my '88 F250 Supercab when a woman in a Taurus (sadly with 3 or 4 kids in the car) ran into me from behind. I never heard any tires screeching, just heard a big bang, then saw the back window of the little Dodge truck in front of me fall backwards into the bed of the truck. That's when I realized I had been hit. I called 911 right away, then got out to check on others. Everyone in front and behind me left the scene in an ambulance and their vehicles were not driveable. My rear bumper had been folded under the truck, but I was able to just drive home!

I have lots of grass to mow, but still too wet. Maybe tomorrow or Monday. Wife and I going off to her visit her favorite plant nursery this morning, just because she wants to look.

Hope everyone has a great day without unplanned expense.
