Drew. My tanks are all rust brown. They all came to me used one had some silver on it but rust was almost 80 then to. But corporate trucks and tanks and most anything is white for one reason. White just doesn't show dirt as bad as most colors. Silver hides it pretty good also.

   / Good morning!!!! #42,782
Drew, since temperature is a factor in degradation, I would paint it silver.

68°F/20°C: marginally OK after 6 months
77°F/25°C: degraded after 6 months
86°F/30°C: degraded after 4 months

Hmm, I may be in trouble with my motorhome. Will be sitting here is AZ for 4 months. Oh wait, it has not been in the 80's all that time. I believe a good additive should correct the degrade.

Good Morning. 0750, sunny, 50F with 71% humidity. Forecast high of 72F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 46F tonight. On the last frost watch: light frost on truck. None on ground.

I had a semi late night last night, have a really late one tonight, coupled with an extra early morning on Saturday, followed by a late night. I guess the after Christmas doldrums are over.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

49 this morning and headed to 62 today. Very windy today out of the south at 35-40 but lots of sun.
I have all the supports built for the bucket grapple and it is ready to weld up. Will do it tomorrow at the neighbors because he has a nice mig welder. I only have a old Lincoln buzz box stick machine. I will pull the snow plow blade off today so I can haul the bucket over there tomorrow.

Here is the support ready to weld. weight is under 13lb. :)

Good Morning! 50F @ 8:00 AM. Rain showers early will evolve into a more steady rain for the afternoon. High near 55F. Winds SSE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

Nice timing on the fuel degradation article, Don.

Drew, if you want something that looks professional, take your Diesel #2 sticker to an automotive paint store and get a couple quarts of catalyzed acrylic enamel that match the background yellow. Have them pump it into aerosol cans, and pick up some 600 grit wet'n'dry sandpaper to scuff the surface of your tank. Wash with Dawn dishwasher detergent, then clean water, and dry with new white paper towels. Shoot the thing with the aerosol cans and you'll have a paint job that'll last the rest of your life and you won't have to worry about wrinkling when you spill fuel on it.

Off to town today to recycle some antifreeze and shop for groceries.

Will probably swing by my friend Chris's shop Boxer Metal and take a look at his twin turbo airhead BMW drag bike that won the big award up at the Portland show last weekend. Funny in a way, since I don't think he had it running for the show. Musta looked Reeeeeeal fast!

TGIF gang!

62°F and .3 inches rain last 24 hours. Of course that was after my unscheduled dental visit when I had hoped to mow.
So, hope is again to mow today :)

Nice tank Drew, I think a bright yellow next to your red barn :)

Stay safe
Have a great day

Anyone have any thoughts on the Stevens Model 320 by Savage, in 12 GA, chambering Winchester PDX1's, as a piece of Home PPE ?

Looks like a good value for the money and would sure do the job. I have been looking at the Mossberg jic8 cruiser in 12 GA. 8 shot.

Nice ...

A little out of my league pricewise tho' ...

The sales rep at Dick's Sporting Goods told me that the 320 was 8 shot as well.

The one I got was not, but perhaps some versions of it are - mebbe those with a longer barrel/magazine - which I didn't want (we have a narrow hallway)

Thanks Bup ... the old 031 AV will be missed ... she was a good saw ... :(
now this veteran chain puller just knew you were pulling our chain...:D but I thought one of your fish died, but then they haven't been around long enough
to be "old" friends...

yes, pun intended, chain puller, chain saw, uh...

A very long and productive day though hours spent digging a new ditch is going to demand payback tonight.
Plus I went and got a pallet/one ton of big boulders, say one footers, rounded, and that's what I'm going to build around the ends of the culvert.
one ton of rock for $260. Didn't seem too bad considering that I know what goes into getting them here all the way over from the mountains.
Like six hours away...

fuel tank a piece of cake to place, did it all by myself, very slowly. Really isn't that heavy empty so I could move it once it was in place
I think I'm going to set the feet on lumber vs concrete, like when you put a battery on concrete you're supposed to put wood under it.
Now different physics of course but would steel rust less on wood? Maybe an old wive's tale.

I figured my diesel use at about 100 gallons a year between the garden tractor mowing 5+ acres and what I burn in the Kubota, which is running 75 hours per year. I actually may be burning more than 100.
So I planned on two years of shelf life. Don, those short shelf life numbers do not match my past experience with diesel.
I use Pri-D or similar plus some antigel during the winter I suppose. Those additives that we are warned about make my Kubota start
easier and blows less smoke at startup. Maybe my head is under the sand, but with additives, I'm pretty confident I won't have any problems.
Also, with a 100 gallon minimum, I suppose I could get a load in a year, and fill the tank, which is always good to minimize condensation.

I'm headed to TSC tomorrow to see what colors they have. I don't think one quart will do it, will buy a gallon and find something else to use what's left.
Smoke grey, has a nice ring to it. No black; silver or grey, will see what they have

off to a local sea food place for dinner with some very senior friends. it's a little whole in the wall with four tables, mostly takeout, but apparently it's good.

Yes it is a little more money, as for the narrow hallway that is why I like the pistol grip stock on the JIC8 But I think your right that it has a 20" not a 18.5" barrel on the 8 shot. They make a 6 shot JIC list at $399.

Boy oh boy the wind is blowing today. It got up to 63 but now the wind is shifting from the SW to NW and it is cooling off fast.

4 months is NOTHING. A good additive - biocide, water remover would have helped, adding it now is less effective. Read this for a discussion on biocide treatment.

Didn't get full access but this has been extensively discussed in Oils and Lubricants and also Trailers and Transportation.
The difficulties - How do you know you are getting
Good quality commercial fuels from reputable marketers
that contain the additives?
What are you running it through? If it's a Bosch HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) they are famous for failure with U.S. ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel) due to lack of lubricity.
Does it have enough biocide? Sulfur was a natural biocide,
Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel is easily
infected with microbes because of the lack of fuel sulfur. The sulfur that was removed for emissions purposes was a natural biocide and was reduced from 500
parts per million to 15 parts in 2006-2007. Instances of ULSD infection have skyrocketed as a result.
from here

I've an '88 Ford E350 Maxivan w/ 7.3 that I've virtually parked in Virginia since 2009 when I bought the Jetta TDI. It's been sitting with the same fuel plus maybe 5 gallons, since 2009. It has one dedicated purpose before I move it to Mississippi - get inspected yearly. That's a 3 mile drive. I probably should take it out and drive around the Beltway every month, but I don't. On a few occasions since 2009 I've used it to pick up lumber that I ended up storing in the van. When I drive my truck and trailer to Mississippi (about 4 times a year) I move it into the driveway. Last time I drove it to move it was about a month ago. Point is that if the fuel went that bad I doubt it would fire up. And I treated it with Diesel Kleen in 2009 and 2012, 2014.

Getting some mowing done. Like the new mower but will take some adjusting on my part. Mower has a bit differently, balance has changed a bit. Think I'm going to like the hydraulic side shift. I did thank my wife . It was by her insistence that I upgraded.ImageUploadedByTractorByNet1455930570.614789.jpg ImageUploadedByTractorByNet1455930629.535503.jpg

David. Mower is doing a nice job.

Drew. Take it easy on those ditches. Rock sounds nice. I have one 300 gallon tank that I pull about 50 gallons a year out of. Haven't changed it in 6 years but have it topped off at half full. Thank I'll suck it out this year and add fresh fuel. After all it is for the generator although that Cummins doesn't seem to mind old fuel. Usage of about 2 gallons an hour. The other tank is 300 also. It's for the tractors and dozer. I empty it every 8-9 months. It also fuels the ready heater in the shop. No problems there either. But I add the white bottle of power service to every fill up year around.

Think I've narrowed the hay rakes down to 2. The Vermeer wr1022 or the Kuhn sr110. Waiting on a price from one dealer on a Vermeer. Others seem to be within $100. So hard decision. Don't know if ones better or not. Thing with these rakes is most people only own one per life time. So not many comparisons by the same person.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Stevens Model 320 by Savage, in 12 GA, chambering Winchester PDX1's, as a piece of Home PPE ?

Savage is well known here (for rifles), but I had not heard of Stevens before so I looked at hicock45's review on you tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClfeLe9pZQ0 He looked to be having great fun with it and his accuracy with slugs was very impressive.

Pump actions are not very popular in this country, I have only shot with one once. A few seconds into the video the empty case from his second shot needs pulling out with fingers. Is this a common thing with pumps ? I have fired thousands of rounds with a semi auto and the only time I've had cases fail to eject was when trying some light 24 oz loads.

If I was looking for a shotgun for home protection Mossberg Defender mariner would be my choice

Never had a pump fame but there's always a first time. My 28 GA model 11-48 has once buts it's not a pump but sweet little shot gun anyway. Nice bird gun with minimal kick
