so do I, as i keep looking at it. That lump, the mound in the field.
I've been around fieldstone all my life, my instincts are like yours, immediately go to stone, not only for durability
but it's so attractive. You are building something if not for all time for quite a while, long past your life, so as we all know,
these projects tend to get more complicated and "fancy" as they progress.

The challenge here is you can't buy a rock. Literally, no rocks anywhere unless they are imported. So rock, large stone is prohibitively expensive to use
in anything other than small decorative areas unless one's pockets are cavernous. Mine are not. I have another place I'd rather make a cool bridge, the one over the big ditch in the rear of the barn that will head to the pond in the woods. This field culvert is just that, a culvert in a field.

I have some grey pavers left that I thought of using somehow. My eye goes right back to the grey of granite...and whatever I use is going to come in bags from Lowes.
They actually do sell what I would have considered silly stuff in bags. Of course, around here, sand in a bag is silly. It's everywhere.....

I know Billy every time you hit one of those rocks with a shovel you must wish it wasn't there but remember, those are valuable rocks. ;)

Actually, next time I go back to PA I could just get a pallet of stone for relative peanuts. This is when I wish I had the old dually, 3 ton capacity in the bed. My current Ram won't hold one ton...and little pallets of stone are very heavy.

Good morning! 50˚ sunny, another one of those perfect days.

I'll pass on the info to Christy wngsprd, thanks. She went to Chicago last week to film it, not knowing of the Valentines matchup week that Steve was doing. The chosen "boyfriend" lives in Dallas and I don't think Dallas has that many Gators. The Country women around here thought she chose the best choice out of the two.

Last night at 1:30 A. M. we were brutally awaken by all the smoke detectors going off but not the general Alarm. In my sleepy confused state of mind I took the battery out of the general alarm to stop the ear piercing noise but that did nothing. Then I realized the battery is just the backup, they all still have electrical power, so I went and unplugged the alarm system. That did not help because each smoke detector has a battery inside. So I took the 9v batter out of the first detector and it still did not stop blaring. By this time I'm a little more awake and open the house breaker box and read that #15 breaker controls the smoke alarms, I flipped it and finally they stopped.

Now I need to find out what happened. What happened? Anybody?

Drew, My bridge is just a culvert with fancy ends. The rocks on my bridge are local rocks picked up from the ground and held on a metal plate by a welded on peg. The rocks have a hole drilled on the back, and the hole was filled with liquid nails then pushed into the peg by TBN members. None have fallen off in over ten years. An original Wrought - n- Harv design.

A good way to practice welding also.

25 this morning and headed to 34 today.

Check chickens and heat the next chamber in 2 barns. Then back to the taxes.

Anybody use PayPal to accept payments? If not what do you use when selling stuff online?

PayPal is very good, use them all the time. At Christmastime, I bought 2 TV's and only had enough money in the checking account I use just for such things, to pay for one. I'd transferred money over but instead of $575.00 I transferred $5.75. PayPal ran the transaction and sent me an email telling me they paid for the TV's and they just created a negative balance on my account and at my first opportunity to please add funds to cover it. It went on to say I could go ahead and pick up the items and fund the account at my convenience. That's service! And a bit brave on their part, as I have no credit account with them.

Today is the coldest day of the year with a low this morning of 25 and a high of 55 with 25mph winds. Coming home from work and run out to feed critters and this is what I see

So why do goats always kid in foul weather? This Doe had 3 today and another is dilated so should kid tonight. The other 2 should kid in the next 2 weeks. I have been wanting to sell the goats, and now my wife wants to keep the kids because they were born on our anniversary.:confused3:

Happy Anniversary Kev. Hope you had a good one.

25 going up to only low 40's today in start of very cold stretch.
43 degrees in Boca Raton too......bet all the fur coats are out all over Florida.
I know Kev's wife has her full length mink on today and Larro's wife has a nice Russian fox.
Standard Southern fare...:D

Forecast is still one to three inches of snow tomorrow. Certainly cold enough.
Found my old pair of fleece lined work pants, most be 20 years old, smaller waistline that I finally could fit in
again. I bet a few of you have those pants on the shelf that might be a little snug...well these fit fine thanks to losing
weight from my tooth escapade. So I stayed warm yesterday and that same pair is back on today. Those old LLBean pants
seem to be indestructible, like Eric's jacket.

Drew, since I stayed at the camp last night, I'm not sure what Margie wore to work. I did have to break ice off the rainwater bucket to wash my coffee pot early this morning, though shaping up to be a nice day.

Dunno about smoke detectors, but fumes from a charging battery will set off a CO detector ...

19F and light snow @ 11:30 ... overnight low of 4F predicted for tonight. Overnight low tomorrow night is predicted to be -2F.

Don had the same thing happen with my original smoke detector (110V) when it was 12 yr old, had figured wife's smoking caught up with it. Yes it was at 2AM  . Had a cheap battery one die at 8 yr old, at least it was easier to silence while half asleep.

KevT Happy anniversary! :drink:

Use PayPal, no problems everything like clockwork.

Missed Christy's TV segment all the had on the segment were the comments on the "date". Was disapointed to say the least.

Good Morning. 1035, sunny, 62F with 59% humidity. Forecast high of 69F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 55F tonight.

I have leftovers for lunch and supper, so I'm free for the rest of the day. Might take some corn back to the shooting house for the deer, then play in the woods for a while.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

I use Paypal, but not to accept payments. While working on my taxes yesterday, I did see on TurboTax Premier a question on whether I had Paypal receipts, so I guess they address it...I skipped over it.

warmed up to a balmy 35, compared to many of you, so I'm venturing out. Sunny but windy, so wind chill is unpleasant.

Had a successful venture to the local propane company, they had 100% solid 304 stainless gas grills made right here in Wilmington NC, just South of me.
My current Charbroil igniter has died and the innards are rusting out. Time to replace it and I figured since I had the propane line right there for the backup gen, why not hook it up to the grill. Plus they will deliver it and set it up, which considering its weight is nice. Two models, I bought the Jr one, better fit for my rear deck and they discounted it a little. Of course, they'll get that back on the install but that's the upfront cost that hopefully will buy me years of convenience. and I'm pretty sure the cost per gallon in the big tank is a lot less than what I'm paying to fill a portable tank. $1.71 last delivery and going down. (like the stock market)
Really nice to buy American made. Stainless Steel Grills - Wilmington Grill

This grill will be a real keeper so what's the best preservative for exterior stainless steel? Does it need UV protection too? (versus stainless polish for your kitchen appliances). Doesn't seem to be high gloss, which is fine, just want to preserve it. 303? Pretty hard to get anything to hang on to a grill top that gets over 500 degrees... suppose it would be best to get a cover for it. But I'd like to get an initial preservative on it before firing it up.

Very nice looking grill Drew.

I'll bet Wilmington Grill sells covers for them.

Drew, mine sits on a paver pad behind my house, beside my bigger deck, it's had a cover from day one, comes of before spark, goes on as soon as cool. Other than normal cleaning with soap and water, I use a brass or stainless brush dry, about once a year, brings the finish out nicely. Forgot to add, mine is 11 years old, been at two houses, and had two sets of burners.

   / Good morning!!!! #42,499
Drew, don't use 303 on it. 303 was actually invented as a sun block for synthetic materials. Things like plastic kayaks, outdoor swings. Not outdoor grills.

I have more to post but wife is calling me to dinner

BTW had another kid born this morning....
