Mid afternoon and I've finishing outside painting for today and possibly for the rest of the year. :dance1:

The air is completely still, a lovely day for everyone who doesn't own a wind turbine.

Still getting together here. Slept in late, going to do some yard work, don't want to push it, 90F again? Where was this last month?

Well, just finished stretching the cross fence, hung the gate, and the horses don't like loosing 2 acres of dirt to walk around in. They scolded me the whole time, Bull didn't care. He is still on 4 acres with grass and thinks the horses are dumb. Then we moved the goats over to the garden and let them clean it out for a few days... thinking it will last them a week, maybe not?

TXDon, thanks, but no thanks, the last thing I need is cute. So what do you raise? Angus, Herefords, Charolaise???

Farmer, you know wage is a nice idea, but if I can let them pay for themselves and put meat in the freezer, I would be happy. And walking out on the deck and seeing a herd of these guys in the field would be a dream come true for both of us.

Do you guys remember my helping the wife pick pears the other day? Well, after it got to hot to work outside, I was put on Pear peeling duty. And thanks TXDon, we treated them like apples. We now have 6 qts. of pear pie filling, 7 qts. of pear, caramel, pecan pie filling, 6 jars of caramel pear jam, and 8 jars of "Carrot Cake" jam. And we still have 10 pounds of pears on the table.

So Don, if you want to PM me you mailing address, Lori said she would share for your help in what to do with them.

We always just canned our pears. My pear trees have died now.

I've done most of my labor for the day. Got the lawn mowed, volleyball net is up, installed another LED flood light (using the tractor forks and pallet as a work platform), finished the garage cleanup, got tables set up, AC running in the garage, ready to start grilling around 4, guest should start coming about 4:30 and we eat at 5. Not sure how many will show up, usually around 40 or so, but I have around 60 burgers, 28 brats, chicken, and a bunch of hot dogs to grill.

I started my labor day cookout 17 yrs ago, the year after I finished building the house. I had over 100 people show the first year.

Bonus this year is the Ohio State game at 8:00. Have the TV set up in the garage also.

Didn't get much done today, but at these temps, I didn't try!

cookout is over, had 34 people show this year, one of our smaller crowds. Weather was real nice. kids and a few adults enjoyed volleyball, kickball, basketball, and cornhole. Ended up cooking 38 burgers, half the package of costco chicken, 2 1/2 packs of hotdogs, and 14 brats.

Really like the new LED flood lights I put up.

good evening all. Just got on the wireless network and caught up :) . Sat. was travel day after having breakfast with stepdaughter on her birthday. Sunday was 50 year since congregation was established, so big celebration there. Today was mow stepson;s 3/4 acre with push mowers in 90F weather, not for the faint of heart. Will get done working with his house tomorrow or Wednesday, then visit mom and head home.

We started at 4:00 and had 20 show up for the volleyball finale - Temp at game time was 100˚, water temp was 92˚.
Even after sunset the temp was 95˚ - glad to be back in AC.

Our food was potluck/German - see pic below.

I'm still leasing my pasture out, they are Angus cows and a Hereford bull. 90% of the calves are black. When I retired I was going to start raising my own cattle but that has not materialized.

Last night I went out to get a few rabbits. There are far too many around here and the dog always appreciates a bit of rabbit for breakfast. As dusk passed and the stars made themselves visible again in a clear dark sky, it almost felt like it was raining, as the water in the air condensed out onto anything it could touch. It has left a thick mist this morning, although the fading leaves in the trees are stiring, so it may not be long before it lifts. All starting to feel like autumn.

A few nights ago I watched a tv program that I think was made to educate us Brits about Texas. It featured long horn cattle, the Alamo, 72oz steaks, big hats, short horn cattle, exerts from a bunch of cowboy films, NASA and more cattle.

It was screened quite early in the evening - maybe that's why they didn't mention all the cannibalism.

Good Morning All.

Had a nice small family cookout yesterday. We didn't eat anybody, just chickens and shrimp. No brats showed up.
