97 for a high close to the WVA border today too hot for man or beast. Glad today was gravel only too hot for hot stuff. Big storms came close but no banana. Heat taking toll on grass

It hung around 60F all morning and into mid-afternoon today. There was fog hanging on the hill tops. Then it rained a bit. After the rain the sun tried to peek through and it shot up to 63F briefly until more clouds came over. 58F now.

Supposed to be 77F tomorrow and mid-70's after that in the 10 day forecast. My green beans are going to need a sun lamp. I think we are still in the same temperature pattern we were in last winter.

Mostly clear and 65F @ 02:00 ...

Made a couple of trips in today to collect leaves, grass clippings, and trimmings. Still more trimming to do on the remaining shrubs and still some "jungle" to cut down and clear out on the west and north sides of the rear building. Fortunately the areas in question are fairly small/narrow. Also got pretty much all the trash picked up and put in the dumpster today.

Isolated thunderstorms here in the afternoon so I might try and sneak in, in the morning, and get a little more done.

RS, glad you had a breakthrough on the carb.

You and me both ... good to have a useful tool back in the arsenal.

Also sounds like the "never throw anything away" mantra paid off at your place, too. :laughing:

Perhaps on your return to the commercial property a camera could be used to record the left overs, for use in small claims court to reclaim your costs for the clean up.

There's a lot to document (still), beyond just the leftovers (lack of interior/exterior maintenance and groundskeeping, damages to the building structure, broken window glass, etc.) ... I actually started documenting the stuff on the outside with a camera a number of months ago, well before before they closed up shop

And the venue - unfortunately for the other party - won't be small claims court ... dude might be in for a very rude awakening.

Sadly no.

Just goes to show that nobody else is going to care for your property as well as you will. At least that's been my experience in life.

True enough ... however, ethical (and smart) folks - who have some measure of personal integrity - will at least make a good faith effort to live up to their legal obligations - particularly if failing to do so, exposes them to being liable for financial compensation for their acts or failures to act.

I was feeling ill yesterday (aches and chills) when I left for work...was there for just over an hour and came home. I took a packet of Theraflu (my usual remedy) which puts me out for 8-10 hours, Feel a bit better today, but not 100%. Guess I'll get through though.

of little children who also have the flu...stuff is contagious. Otherwise, time for a book or a movie and some sleep.

I'm off to see a foot doctor today to get serious pains in my right foot arch looked at. Not gout kind of pain, my arthritis doc thinks it's gone there too...but maybe with some kind of foot lift or whatever I won't hobble around at times.
Doesn't help having a treadle on both tractor and mower, plus long car trips, plus a lot of walking. Constantly putting pressure on that foot and I think it is saying no more or at least cool it.
We get by with a little help from our friends.

Poured first cup of coffee. 54° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 77° with with a mix of sun and clouds before thunderstorms return in the evening. Few small projects to get done today. One is put the mower deck on tractor. This will require cleaning up barn so there is room to roll deck around and under tractor.

Drew- let us know what the Doc says. I too have foot issues, but mine in from being way over weight. Hard on hips, knees, ankles, and feet. The fact I rodeo'd for 6 years has nothing to do with it.

Another hot one with 74 with my coffee, and a high of 101. Working from home today, spraying cabinet doors and making closet shelving

70 out this AM. Found another 8 hour job, so in the city I am. A lot more uncomfortable here. Sun is already out and it should be really hot and humid today. A cool down predicted if a weather front makes it here. Then miserable close to 100 degree heat indexes by the weekend.

Great weather for laying in the pool. Which I do mostly, now-a-days.

All is calm now.

Tropical depression Bill went directly over our heads between midnight and 2 am. Best I can tell, there were only 40mph gusts. For some conspicuous reason, the weather stations in the path are almost all missing data during the event. Not sure if they are programmed to turn off when the wind gets up to 40 or what??? Anyhow, we got about 3" of that sideways blowing rain.
I just went down to the road to make sure our trash can wasn't blown out into the road. Lots of small bits of trees on the ground everywhere. Will do a better survey when the sun comes up.

Roy, hope your better soon. Being sick is not fun. I sometimes AM that "father of sick kids".

Drew, have you checked into those shoe inserts? Some folks say they work. At least that's what the advertisers say......

Exactly the setup I was looking for, a/c helm, not too big, cheap to run. And very seaworthy.
when I was a yachtbroker for Richard Merritt in Ft Lauderdale for three years, I went on about thirty sea trials
and surveys. And then went through the back and forth about who pays for what. That whole process can get unpleasant at times, overheating engines, leaking stuffing boxes, a/c that stops, toilets that smell...the list is utterly endless. And you are never sure you caught all the problems. Some lay hidden.

I do not exaggerate...since on the maiden voyage of my first boat, a 33 Carver aft cabin, one of the Crusader big block exhaust manifolds plugged up off the shoals near Atlantic City causing one of the rubber exhaust hoses to run dry and almost ignite . Billowing clouds of black smoke pouring out of the cabin of the boat, the engine room being right under the salon/living room floor. Alarm bells ringing. Everyone frantically donning life preservers and getting ready to jump overboard. In the Atlantic Ocean miles ten miles offshore...

However....while I did have a paid captain, a sailboat captain but a good guy, it was my boat, and I was captain too so I had to go into the engine room and figure out what was going on. As we bobbed and heaved in offshore swells. And I'm getting seasick now that we aren't moving and my hands aren't on the wheel. Are we having fun yet?

Carefully I crack the carpeted engine room hatch which is now getting black around the edges from burning rubber smoke and with all the windows open and a bright flashlight I saw the culprit, in meltdown. Black rubber bubbling in front of me. Why that hose hadn't ignited, maybe it had partially, but now it was out and just smoldering. The surrounding area was not badly damaged; luckily I was a volunteer fireman so I had some basic skill here. So I let it be and we started up the other engine, which ran nicely thankfully and headed off like a crab through the large inlet there and into the Atlantic City marina, at the big casino. Really nice marina, and we were coming in like the captain was drunk. We radioed in, explained our challenges and they directed us as directly as they could. I asked my powerboat friend to take the wheel, he had more experience than any of us, and he did his best, and we did not trade fiberglass when we landed, most ungracefully against the fuel dock.
What a day.

So...even after a sea trial and survey, one's maiden voyage getting the boat home can sure be a doozie from my experience. I would be taking this boat South out of the Albermarle into the Pamlico sound and River. At 12 knots an all day trip for sure. I wonder if second time will be the charm...
My local fireman friends both own boats and are experienced so I'll take one of them along if this works out.
And my friend from Delaware might want to be on the maiden trip just for the fun of it. Once the boat is back in your own slip, you can get things fixed, cleaned, etc to your liking. The boat is out of the water now, so I get to inspect the hull.

I have a huge list of questions to ask the guy about the 300hp Yanmar diesel. Particularly details on the engine cooling system. And the generator is seriously high tech, and seems high end with a tiny Farryman diesel hooked up to a high end Italian generator. I think the current owner has spent mucho buckos on this thing, and that's what you want, for the "last guy" go have spent the money, so you don't have to. Because someone is going to have to...and one never gets all one's repair/upgrade investment out of a boat. And it even has a nice toilet. Hey, important for the ladies. And me.
I'm getting older, can't take any pounding, so I need to go slower and this boat should go slowly nicely. And go much faster if need be.

So Buppies, all this investigatory angst is what you avoid when you buy new. Though new boats need a real break in too.
I hope you have as much fun with yours as I intend to have with this.
Back on the water again.
Well, after everything is watered, the lawn mowed, etc etc.

Thank you, they do work, and I can only wear deck shoes with them. They really do work for me, thanks. But I think I may need something more.

That should provide a nice comfortable easy going ride. I was thinking with 300 hp, it might have a bit more top speed. A hull's planing speed can help save fuel albeit at the expense of the ride usually.
