A fishing buddy of mine had a Grady White back twenty years ago he used fishing all around Cape Cod. Nicely set up for fishing with holds you could fill with ice and fish etc. He traded up to a full sized cabin cruiser when he had the money but has often said the Grady White was the best of the several boats he has owned and the only one he regrets selling.

Thanks for sharing, one finds very few used Grady's in this size and price is like buying a new S class Mercedes but you do get what you pay for especially new

nice boat. Two tons plus will require hp to drive it, probably 300 adequate, 400 will go
very fast and burn lots of fuel. I would spend some time on this page: Grady-White Boats
you really can get by with a single engine today, a V8, though one loses the backup capability of a second motor.
I saw a Yamaha 350 V8 on a fishing boat at Washington city dock last week. Nice looking motor.

the boat has a toilet/head, and a quality small interior. Superior bad weather boat.
Equivalent to a C or E class Mercedes in a car, Grady Whites are built in Greenville, the next city over from Washington.
Set up for fishing which is not my thing, I'm a cruiser totally, but if you want to get out and catch a fish, that boat would last a long time for you and based on owner loyalty, be a real pleasure. And with canvas, a toilet and a place to lie down, you could day cruise very nicely with it. Really nice family boat.

Drew there is a new 232 all decked out in Norfolk not too terribly far from you. Son tried it out last week and it has every option known to man with twin 150s. He said best ride he'd ever been on

RS, one man's mess is another man's treasure but I think you got a lot of mess left for you.
Yup ...

hopefully the desk and safe are worth something.
Desk is probably minimal, safe might actually be worth something - it's UL-listed I think as fire-proof (or at least fire-resistant) ... big heavy sucker ... probably 3' x 3' x 3' ... and it's locked open, so the combination can be reset fairly easily.

But the man is an idiot to leave his business records.
He's an idiot in a lot more ways than that.

As a business owner - inherently a position of power over others - and particularly one of multiple locations, I'm pretty sure that he has been in the position of being sucked up to for quite some time - by his employees, and by his suppliers who value his business. Sorta got the impression that he enjoyed command over others and the compliance that surely must have come with it.

And I think he expected that from me as well ... of course that didn't happen (no real surprise there eh ?) ... but I tried to treat him with courtesy and respect, and actually met him halfway on some things - even though I had no obligation (legal or otherwise) to do so ... and provided him with "quiet enjoyment" of his tenancy ...

I believe as consequence of that (being sucked up to as a consequence of having power) made him rather arrogant.

I haven't closely inspected the records, but they may fall outside of the IRS' 7 year rule/recommendation (I did note from a distance that one box was marked "2005")

Regardless of that, they are abandoned and in my possession at this point ... they may be useful to me, should a case or controversy arise ...

I suspect that what they are, are individual receipts for sales transactions. If that's the case, they might well be valuable ... to me.

Did he just forget to make the last trip?
I doubt it ... the records are stored on top (loft) of an interior room (office) ... and are easily visible from multiple vantage points ... all of the other stuff is easily visible as well - it's pretty much an empty facility at this point - with most of what was left in large open areas or rooms.

Was he relying on someone else to clean it up?
Only his employees so far as I know.

If he knowingly left that crap for you to clean up, shame on him.
Yup ...

But that isn't the half of it ... not even a quarter of it ...

Perhaps you could return it to the front lawn of his place of business...;)
Drew,

I like the way you think ... :D

But I think I might instead be inclined for a late Sunday night drop off, directly in front of the front doors (customer entrance) of his original/headquarters location ... for he and his employees to discover Monday morning when they come in to open up.

And RS you should do a YouTube Walbro video.
LOL ... me ?

What would I title it ... "The Blind Leading The Blind" ?

The challenge is having someone who is very good at what they do
present it properly, it's a teaching moment. And some of the YouTube guys are
really slow in their presentation, some spend a lot of time focusing... but overall I think
they are often helpful. Particularly the cautions, little springs and washers falling out of places
that must go back in in precisely one manner or it will never start.
I'm sure it would be fun ... and probably somewhat therapeutic ... but that kind of "fun" is something that is out of the range of my budget these days.

The printed instructions you get with most products today, Chinese or not, are pretty bad.
Besides, the first twenty pages are unintelligible never read caution stickers. They seem to feel required to
duplicate every warning sticker on the machine, and add even more dire warnings.
I never read any of it.
Keep your fingers and feet out of the machinery. Pretty simple.
More important to get that into muscle memory than reading E100 warnings.
LOL ...

time for a toasted raisin bagel with philadelphia lite cream cheese.
And for sure another cup of coffee. Stuff at my tea drinking sister's was dreck despite her best efforts.
Nice to get back to my own stuff...
may June 16 be a very good day.
Hope it is for you ... and all others reading here.

75 out this AM. Took a day job in the city. Still looking. Moved about thirty more square bales around yesterday. Had to stop twice for water. Then, basically called it a day around 1PM and immersed myself in the pool. Sat in the shallow end, beer in hand, water up to chin, hat and just watched the birds and wildlife try and beat the heat. Rest of the week looks hot and humid too.

Stay safe everyone, work smart in the heat. Lots of fluids and breaks.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,026
Looks like another round of searing heat is on the way for SC and NC starting Sunday even worse than the current one. This is not good not good at all
Bup,

No heat issues here yet ... but if the rain keeps up like it has been we're gonna have a problem. And it's predicted to.

RS deadbeats abound everywhere ...
Indeed ... and often many appear to be something they are not.

Deadbeats and victims ... I'd prefer to be neither.

... sorry it happened to you.
Thanks ... but it ain't over yet ... not by a long stretch.

I have a case ... on multiple counts/issues.

On a light note Mrs Redbird came by the feeder last night looking all fit and trim and apparently found a new hair dresser to boot as she looked finer than a frog hair split three ways.
LOL ...

The 'Cake is looking for a new hairdresser as well ... but that's another story.

74 heading to 95.

Had to go to the dentist and run errands with my wife yesterday, so today will try to fix the John Deere riding mower.

Broken front axle...second time. First time I could never see how to get to the bolt holding it on in the middle, but today will use the FEL to raise it up and get under it. Speaking of You-Tubes, couldn't find one that shows taking it off.

My youngest son was trying to get everything mowed after the big rains while I was out of town, but didn't get far before it broke. Now I have a jungle to tackle.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,028
My thoughts on cleaning mower deck for my area. After first built-up and dries out. Desk is protected from more wear during future cuttings.
Works for me  ... like the way you think ;)

RS, glad you got the Stihl running.
Me too ... had to ask my nephew to borrow his (almost) new Echo to do the commercial property ... don't like to do that.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,029
55F headed to a cloudy 70F today, maybe some (0.1") rain this afternoon. There is some funky cloud mist in the air this morning making some surface dampness.

I don't think we made it past 60F yesterday. Some of you are hogging all the heat. :D Hope you get a break soon. Good luck to the Texans.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,030
74 with another high of 100. Counting the days for vacation, sure hope it is cooler in Ohio. Hired a new employee last week that really needed the work this summer, 2nd day and have not heard a thing from them.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,031
Good morning everyone, more rain overnight. 70F heading to 77F and more rain in the forcast.
Drew a woman will come into your life soon, your late wife is just having a hard time finding the perfect mate for you.;)

   / Good morning!!!! #35,032
I had to chuckle at the optimum speed suggested for the single V8 on that model, about 30 mph getting 2.3mpg.
On a vehicle that would be outrageous. On a boat, pretty darn good. My Bertram got .5 mpg. Wasn't too bad when diesel was 73 cents a gallon when i bought the boat. The only downside with powerboating is the cost of the fuel. Maintaining the boat is not cheap but it's pretty doable for most folk. There is nothing like being out in the ocean totally out of sight of land and it's just you and the water all around you. On a calm day, you can just drift on the quiet water, gives you quite a sensation of the curve of the earth when one looks from up on a flybridge. And this is why I ran two independent chartplotters. I sure wanted to get home....;)
Of course in the Atlantic, West was always home.

Been awhile since I've been on a boat. My dad has a little one, with a 20 hp Johnson motor, from about 1959? He has rebuilt the motor a couple of times, and even made parts for it. It takes him out in the bay in Florida, he doesn't do deep water.

Good Morning. 0720, sunny, 85F with 64% humidity. Forecast high of 95F with 20% chance of rain today, and a low of 74F tonight. It felt pretty good when I went out and turned on the soaker hoses at 0545. Not so much now. I think summertime got here a week early. The plan for today is to plant sweet corn, peas, squash and whatever else I have time for. It is nice that space isn't the deciding factor. {at least for now. I may fill up the new part of the garden as fast as the other}

Drew, the only blue water cruising I have ever done was with 2800 {800 sailors and 2000 Marines} of my closest friends. Not too much peace and quiet, but lots of blue water. I was stoked about my new vessel, a 12' 1LP {Larro Power} kayak. Until my ship comes in, that is all the "ship" I can afford.

Hahaha, when I lived in St. Pete FL, I kayaked out about 12 miles off shore, and had the Coast Guard come by to ask if I was okay. I laughed and asked if they would do that if I had a motor and they agreed that they wouldn't. After I showed them that I had a GPS, VHF, flares, and even a SPOT, they let me continue. Had the biggest Loggerhead come up beside me that day, and knew that was why I kayaked.

Tried to pm Bill (JDgreen227) this morning to see how he was doing, found that he has blocked his pms. I guess he might really be gone for good this time as before I could still pm him. I kind of miss his banter sometimes.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,038
77 this morning and headed to 91 today. After today rain chances really increase. Have seen two different forecast say we would see 3-5 inches of rain this week. Thanks to Bill. While we need a rain, we don't need a flood.

Only got mowing done yesterday so I will finish that agenda today.

Lots of boat talk here. Must be summer.

Rs paint everything return to sender. Then return it. Laughing. :). No if you've got a case on him then just add your $400/hr cleaning fees to that. Plus all the proper disposal fees with retail markup. Don't forget you can't afford the cleaning supplies on that cheap rate so he needs to pony up for them. A good businessman would get it. Right? Hate it for you but best of luck.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,039
62F, sunny for today. High 97F, warming a few degrees from yesterday. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Same as yesterday, just a little warmer.

RS, glad you had a breakthrough on the carb. Also sounds like the "never throw anything away" mantra paid off at your place, too. Perhaps on your return to the commercial property a camera could be used to record the left overs, for use in small claims court to reclaim your costs for the clean up. Or perhaps there's a deposit that can be forfeit for that? Just goes to show that nobody else is going to care for your property as well as you will. At least that's been my experience in life.

Drew, sounds like you had a nice trip (thanks for sharing the beautiful car photos!). You're moving on with your life and are at peace, a healthy place from which to proceed. With a new Dodge in the garage and the boat back in the water, how could your search go unrewarded? But as for cabs on tractors, I've had to split one tractor already, and just getting the seat and floor pan off to do so was a major challenge. I can't imagine what might be involved to deal with a cab, so for now at least I'll work around the worst weather and maybe look into putting the umbrella back on the ROPS.

Eric, clever use of what you've got to dodge an unfortunate incident. I've heard it said that an older, wiser man gets less use from his hammers as time goes on. I'm older, not necessarily wiser, but managed to purchase a hydraulic press several years ago off Craig's List to help compensate. I still manage to mangle certain repairs, but at least now I don't make as much noise doing it.

Larro, I hope I never accumulate all your experience in cutting grass. It doesn't help at all that I'm allergic to the stuff, and the sooner I can retire the push mower the better. Besides, I'd rather get my exercise cutting wood, picking rocks out of the meadow, or (gasp) doing something fun like riding a bicycle.

I'm up early this morning, awakened by a very loud cricket in the great room. Loud enough to echo nicely into the bedroom. Not a very clever cricket, though, as it was easy to home in on the sound, lift the fireplace tool rack, and send the little bastid onto its great reward.

Finished the wiring on the bike yesterday, but it didn't pass the smoke check. There's a short in one of the lamp leads, but I ran out of time before I could find it. Another appointment takes me back into town today, so I'll grab some extra fuses on the way home and track it down tomorrow.

I did find what I hope will be the perfect motor/pump combo at the sprayer manufacturer yesterday. Had the same o-ring connections on the pump head, same pressure, but over double the volume, with a motor that has replaceable brushes and an adjustable pressure regulator. They even stock parts for the pump. For another few dollars I purchased a new power lead and switch. The bad news is that all this cost as much as I paid for the whole spray rig four years ago, but since they stock parts for both the pump and motor, it should last a lot longer. Even if it ends up like George Washington's axe, at least I'll still have a working axe.

Enjoy your day, everyone!
