64F & 71% humid, feels muggy. Today was another nice one. 80F again tomorrow but cloudy with maybe some rain after sundown.

Farmer glad you are having good haying weather.

Drew, $.009 per gallon. ($55.50 for 6,000 gallons last month) We have a county water co-op connection at the road.

73F and partly cloudy @ 00:00 ...

Got most of the first two batches of sycamore cut into rounds today ... have about 6 cuts to finish and another 6 to do after that (2 logs), and then it's on to the second two loads.

Need to sharpen chains tonight ... probably try and get the splitter moved in as well and pull the base end.

Golden State came to play tonight ... the Cavs not so much.

Back in 2011 the HF one was made by Hudson.
Now that you mention it, I think I recall reading that at some point ...

But you get all those logs delivered.
True.

You could probably move them on the 3point.
Up to a point ... I think the lift capacity on the 3PH is 1350 lbs or so, 24" behind the pivot.

A tractor with another 15 to 30 ponies would be nice ... but that likely ain't gonna happen.

I'll bet ;)

Actually inside
Nice ... you can work regardless of the weather, or the time of day.

How wide are your doors ?

I've bought 3 sections total, 18 feet I think.
Sweet

Especially when you get the timber delivered to your door.
LOL ... yeah ... very true.

I dunno that I'd wanna bank on that continuing forever tho' ... although I do have several sources at this point.

It's really a mixed bag ... there is a (somewhat misguided) young man who works for several small local outfits, all three do tree service work but one is mostly roofing (but the owner heats with wood himself), and another also does landscaping as well. One is strictly tree service. Two of the three owners have "issues" that I'd just as soon not make part of my life, as does the kid himself.

There's also another young man - next door neighbor actually - that works for another company. Smart kid, just out of high school who has helped me a lot ... he's been running equipment for a number of years, and is pretty professional and a very hard worker. Real go-getter. His company has offered to send him to school to become a certified arborist ... and he's smart enough to recognize the opportunity and take advantage of it.

None of these four company sell wood ... it either gets chipped or they take it to a local tree service/landscape company who has a grinder (mulch) who charges a fee for every load they accept ... or it goes to a landfill apparently.

So it could change in a heart beat.

In the meantime I'm counting my blessings while I've got them.

58 right now...high of 81 today...maybe a thunderstorm.

This is our last day of dry weather for a good few days. Any other time I would be out spraying, but because of you lot, specifically all of you who have put up pictures of the stuff you have welded, I will spend all day inside a boatyard workshop today, trying to learn how to weld with electricity. Many years ago I did a bit of gas welding, but I have never tried it with volts and amps.

Too late to teach an old dog new tricks ? We shall see, I'm sure it will be fun trying.

another warm day with thunderstorms likely this afternoon.
Watered all the planted trees yesterday and mowed the orchard.
Not planning on doing much today other than picking things up around here, so I can take off tomorrow early for DE and then PA for the weekend. My oldest brother moved from Delaplane to Markham VA, closer to the mountains and I hope to stop on the way home and say hi.

took some pics of the Washington harbor scene yesterday, pretty peaceful on a still morning.

Coffee is done brewing. 61° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 78° with heavy thunderstorms in afternoon. Not going to plan anything outside today. Maybe set on porch and watch storms pass by.
Eric, good thing to know how to do. Sure sure helps when something breaks in middle of a project.
Drew, nice pictures.
Good Morning All

It's another TGIR (Thank God I'm Retired) day. :D

63F, overcast clouds. Sure looks like rain is possible but the forecast says not until tonight.

Nice pics of the bay Drew.

Have a good one.

Gee, I'm having one of those "I thought I was retired days" Started my business as a part time thing to help the wife, now have 3 employees, and am booked thru July. Lady last night got mad when I told her I couldn't start on her house till August. She wanted to know what she is supposed to do! I dunno Lady, think ahead???

Nice pics Drew, miss the water sometimes.

Farmer, how much do you get per bale there? I pay $40 for a 5x5 bale of coastal. About the same?

Finished all the yard mowing plus the easement & driveway last night after I got home. Hope to change the oil in the tractor and start welding the mailbox stand this weekend.

   / Good morning!!!! #34,893
70 out this AM, should tick just below 100 today, like yesterday I'll be haying. It seems the equipment gets free just as the weather hits the 90's. May have to rearrange that deal. LOL.
I stopped many a time to jump in the pool. I work better wet. LOL.

Still looking for a real job. I have all these requirements, ya know.

Be safe today, it will be another hot one.

   / Good morning!!!! #34,895
74F right now, sunny today. High near 105F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.

I'll take advantage of the low winds to get some spraying done, but not sure how long I'll last outside once the temps come up. The RTV does have a canopy, so we'll see. Rip, a pool would be nice, but I'll have to make do with a garden hose.

All, the plastic that's in the worst shape is on the Kubota RTV900, the fenders especially. The Kubota tractor isn't much better, and there some accessories (driving light housings in particular) on the motorcycles (no Harleys or classic Hondas here) that look pretty beat. Wipe New got the best reviews from Consumer Reports, but like most things on Amazon, many people end up with a mess worse than the one they started with. But none of the alternatives, the dye included, came through with all good Amazon reviews, leading me to conclude that there are people out there that can screw up a steel ball, and some manufacturers will placate these people, and some will not. The most effective strategy seems to be painting with a matching color, but that's a lot more work than I want to do, and I don't think paint would survive well in a tractor/RTV environment anyway. I've already tried Armor All and Mother's Back to Black, which initially look nice but only last until the next washing. But with the tractor and RTV that could be next winter  And on at least one motorcycle, it only has to last long enough to sell. :D Drew, does 300 have a longer name?

Dave, the Bell's prevents me from blinking the eye on that side, so after a while it either waters on its own or starts to sting. I haven't figured out yet why it does one or the other, but the ointment that was prescribed will provide relief. But it also clouds vision on that side, which makes driving a bit more dangerous. Not the best thing when out in the F250, not something I even want to chance on a motorcycle. In the truck I have to be choosy how the A/C is set and how the vents are pointed, and I'm not optimistic my helmet would be good at keeping drafts away from the eye without suffocating me. But I've been thinking of giving it a try, as after all I can always just turn around and come home if it gets too uncomfortable, and that should happen quickly if it's going to happen at all.

I've had the same problem with WSJ articles, but for some reason I was able to read that one. Phase of moon, number of attempts, who knows?

RS, I kept losing the ends off my rippers until I figured out not to run them in reverse :duh: Made up a half round punch for the press to attach them, but I think next time I'll drill a 3/8" hole there and just tack them on with the MIG welder. They'll still come off in reverse, but maybe they'll survive getting caught on a root a little better? And 2" square tube is on the list for the next trip to the steel yard. And maybe a short piece of 2 1/2", too (I'm lazy, and have you checked the price of acetylene lately )

Eric, welding is a nice tool to have. It will help a great deal if you can get close enough to the weld to see the metal melt and begin to flow. After all, that's what a weld is, molten metal. Getting good welds is simply melting what you wish to join, and not melting the parts around it. At our age, though, seeing small, bright things can be a challenge. A company called Speedglass makes magnifying lenses that fit inside the helmet in front of the filter lens, and I've found these helpful. The stronger the better in my case, but 3.0 diopter is the strongest I've managed to find. There are times I wish it was stronger. If you have a choice of welding process, MIG (officially GMA, or Gas Metal Arc) is the easiest to learn and use. Just point the gun and pull the trigger. But stick is the most common, and the 6011 and 6012 rods are the easiest to strike and keep going. In my experience, 6010 is one of the hardest, but also one of the most common as it provides the most penetration, very handy if you're stuck with a "home shop" low power machine. I have a 180 amp MIG machine and a 220 amp TIG that also does stick. I can't remember the last time I stick welded anything...

Drew, nothing says summer like time on the water. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos

Kev,TGIR? That's a good one! :) At work we used to say "Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on ours". Many people also have a habit of making their problems someone else's, and the most effective strategy I've found is to just say "No". But like training a puppy, that only works when you catch them in the act.

TGIF folks! I think a cold beer is gonna taste pretty good tonight!

75* at 8am, heading into the 90's again. Was 99 in the car when I left work yesterday, and it read that for several miles going down the highway, so don't think it was just from sitting in the sun. Was still above 90* at 7pm last night.
I'm off today, first job is change rotors on the old honda. Have had them awhile, just been putting it off.
Called to find the time for my fridge delivery, and was told not until tomorrow. They left a message last night, I thought they were coming today. Message got erased already. Doesn't matter, I was off today anyways and I have lots of work to get done. Already got the honda in the garage, and the AC unit back in the garage window.

Don, hope your dad is doing ok. I'm concerned about mine. He's planning on baling hay today in this weather, and too far for me to get there to help. Last year about this time of year, he made some by himself on a hot day and got heat exhaustion and spent about a week in the hospital. At 91 he doesn't need that. One of his neighbors is going to round bale most of his hay for him, but he wants to put this up now in square. One neighbor is supposed to come help today.

77 this morning and headed to 93 today. It's hot. So was yesterday. Chance of afternoon rain showers. Will be baling and hauling hay today.

Drew. Was those pictures from your boat. It looks like a nice day for a boat trip.

Kev. My bales are 4x5's. Been asking $25 for them and can't sell them. There a mix of fescue and ryegrass. Everyone tells me they're too small. They want 5x6er's.

52 with sunny Skies with a high of 72. It looks like another inch of Rain from last nights Storm.

   / Good morning!!!! #34,899
Nice ... you can work regardless of the weather, or the time of day.

How wide are your doors ?
<snip>

It's in the shed with white sliding doors that is partially open, I've got about a 15 foot wide opening.
outside-shops.jpg

I've only had to slightly angle logs to load them on the mill.
