65 this morning and headed to 78 today. Rain chances move in after lunch. Currently 100%. In a slight risk for severe weather.

Need to try and repair the loader bucket today before the storms get in here.

74F and cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms predicted for the next three days ... and highs around 80F ... then sunny on Friday with high of 86F ...

Enjoying a nice freshly brewed cup of joe ... first cup of the day.

Last thing I did yesterday before I knocked off was to pull the logsplitter out of the barn and over to the house to get it out of the way ... and then move 4 or 5 pallets of stuff I had pulled out earlier but didn't want to get wet, back in.

It was dark out by the time I had that done ... thought about going back out and raking out the fill by the downspout drain under the lights ... but The 'Cake was already in her pj's by the time I got back to the house and I wasn't sure how quickly she was planning on hitting the rack and I knew the lights would bother her so I skipped that idea.

Oldest kid - who is in Houston for his summer internship - is safe and at work today ... Said he was up all night tho' ... due to people's car alarms going off from thunder or something ... probably glad that they gave him that 3rd floor apartment.

Not sure yet which direction I'll head today ... might be able to sneak in a little outdoor work before it starts raining and I have to focus on other stuff.

Need see if I can get the Simplicity back up to the house from where she left it yesterday ... the gears on the one side are about gone ... so I'm likely going to be forced to deal with that earlier than I expected, unless the chains have come loose on that side.

When I went through and adjusted them a couple of weeks ago, I told The 'Cake that they were on their last legs ... and that we needed to treat it gingerly and try and nurse it through the summer.

Next thing I know she takes it and mows the entire front yard and upper field with it (about 5 or so acres) one morning before I got up ... 'cause the MMM wasn't on the Kubota.

Sorta makes ya wonder whether there is anyone really at home in there ... :confused2:

62 right now...heading to a very hot 89. Reckon the wife will keep all the doors and windows shut to keep the house as cool as possible.

Been doin' that here as well ... open up the house at night and let it cool off ... then button it up first thing in the morning.

If it's really sunny out, usually can make it until late afternoon before feeling like we need to switch on the AC for a couple of hours.

Around here, whoever breaks it, fixes it. Then again, I'm the only one around here, so I get stuck doing everything. Before that when I did have help, it was given grudgingly and sometimes had to be redone. And I still had to fix everything. Not sure which situation is better, but there's certainly less aggravation in the former than the latter.:laughing: Count yourself lucky: my help never mowed, and I never saw a pie out of her, either! :confused3:

86 degrees out, weird that Roy in Vermont might be hotter.
got my trim mower to the shop about an hour away; amazed the gps did not lead me to the local quarry as the
guy trying to give me directions over the phone swore they would.

Then off to a nice lunch with the builder who will be quoting my new storage/garage building in both pole barn and all steel construction. Since the existing barn is already a "pole barn", not sure I want to use the money necessary to upgrade to an all steel building on that vs. perhaps more features inside the pole barn.

From what I understand, most good carpenters, and perhaps some not so good, can build a pole barn. An all steel building might take a little more expertise, and maybe not, if it's just a giant erector set putting together all the precut parts. The builder said he would have me look at the three dimensional modeling software they use so it will help me visualize the internal spaces better than looking at a blocked up Excel spreadsheet on my home pc.

The new building will be in the lee of woods/trees to the South and West within a few hundred feet, and other trees further out, so not particularly exposed except from the North. I think I should take this to a new thread and get input on this; many of you have had these buildings built or built them yourself.

Good afternoon NOT. I'm sinking. I found some dry sand to fill the washouts on my drive and got about 100 yards on top of the sand hill and the bottom dropped out from under me. I quickly dumped the load and tried to back up with the help of the fell but kept sinking in the sand.

I remember the the quicksand in the old Tarzan movies the more you move the faster you sink, so I quickly walked back to the barn and got a shovel. I dug some ditches around the tractor for the water to drain and hopefully it will stop sinking . . . .

None of the water was there when I dove on it it is hiding underneath. . .

There are no trees close to hook a come-a-long.

Heading back out for another plan if the sinking does not stop. . . .

Just spent the last couple of hours working on and diagnosing our whole house vacuum system (VacuFlo brand) ... looks like the motor has a dead spot in it ... sounding a little noisy too. Supposedly should be covered by a "Lifetime" warranty ... which, at this point, will be likely limited to parts only - which is totally fine ... I can replace the motor easy enough ... and would be happy to get the parts gratis ...

Just another day in paradise ... albeit one which The 'Cake had planned to do indoor cleaning ...

We have had one thunderstorm after another since noon. At least four longleaf pines are down {what I can see from the back deck}, plus other assorted limbs. The water was pooled up about 4" deep on the front steps, and with this sand, we never have puddles.

Managed to get the pipes covered and the rough grading done with 3' landscape rake before the raindrops started falling:

The soil is still very loose, but it's also pretty dry ... need to drive over it with the tractor to compact it and then probably cover it with a layer of screened topsoil before seeding ... so I figured I'd wait until it got a little moister to compact it.

The "rain" - which was accompanied with a lot of sound and fury - ended up being not much more than a few drops ... not even enough to settle the dust ... storm was apparently in the process of building when it passed overhead. There's another line of strong thunderstorms out to the west ... hopefully we'll get some of that before they fade for the day.

Our current rainfall deficit is almost two inches for the month, and almost four inches year-to-date

Awaiting Game Four of the ECF to start ... Go Cavs !

Might want to think about laying in a few more tow chains. They've come in handy here for pulling logs up out of ravines and yep, rescuing stuck tractors! Harbor Freight has both 5/16" and 3/8" on sale now, Tractor Supply has it, too, but at twice the price. A tow strap comes in handy on a regular basis, too, enough so that I carry it under the seat in the truck.

Hope you git 'er out without too much fuss. Really handy if you have someone in a tow vehicle tugging while you push with the FEL and try not to spin the tires in 4WD.
