64ーF and no rain last 24 hours.

Probably go to town and get Dupli-color Vinyl and Fabric paint for my golf cart seat.

Be safe, stay warm,
have a great day.

It sounds like they are busy because they never get anything fixed.
That was a comment a friend in the HVAC business made as well:

It's all return work that they didn't get right the first (second, third, whatever) time.

Billie,

26 with a toasty 30 on the outlook for today...with gusts to 38mph, so a good day to keep the stove cranking.
30 sounds pretty good actually ...

All this talk of cutting oaks and building log splitters, I thought I'd share a couple of pix from yesterday. Cut a red oak down that died this past year.
Nice haul.

Bark looks real similar to some of what I've gotten recently.

The smaller trees have had much smoother bark though.

I was real pleased that I got it to fall between two young beech trees that I favor, and only hit one small dead poplar.
It's nice when it goes that way.

I'm with you, Drew...I don't know of any log that feels heavier than a fresh cut red oak.
I couldn't believe how heavy the stuff I've gathered so far was ... I've mostly cut/handled/burned maple and ash in times past.

I got a couple of loads out, and split, but I'm planning to tow my splitter back to the woods to finish off the largest logs.

Speaking of my splitter, it took 41 pulls yesterday to get it started after adding Sea Foam.
Good Lord ...

I'd think one of them Harbor Freight clone engines with electric start would probably be lookin' pretty good about now.

Still not a fair test, since I didn't run it very long the day before when I added the Sea Foam. So yesterday I ran a full tank of gas with it, and hoping today will be the day when I get back to the original 2 or 3 pulls to start. I still have faith.
I pulled the carb off the 6.5 BS Intek last night as part of the logsplitter engine clean up. Had some flakey crud in the bowl ... other than that it didn't look too bad ... gas tank is another story though. All kinds of debris in there (grass, leaves, etc.)

Otherwise, I'll be buying one of the new rswyan Eiffel 3000 models. :)
LOL ... the one I'm building now might be yours ... :D

Also, why I didn't swap chains before I got started, I just don't know. I guess I was trying to get a "few more miles" out of the dull one when I cut the tree down, and started cutting logs. Swapped to one I had just resharpened and was like cutting butter with a hot knife.
I like it when it does that.

Keep warm.
I'll settle for just keepin' from freezin' ...

My condolences for those living in the "ice belt" right now. I was born and raised in PA and I know what cold is, but... right now at before 10:00 AM and the temperature is 66 and headed to mid 70's.

I know, I know, I won't be gloating when it's 115* in August.

Things are drying out but still lots left over from the rains. Gonna be in the 50's today. Road crews are busy......mud slides have closed three sections of Hwy 101 in surrounding areas. Mud slide wiped out several homes about 40 miles north. Lots of homes in low areas have water damage. Most schools went back today.

We have topped our forecast high. It's up to 61F. #heatwave.

My boss called and I have to go into work this afternoon. Also have office relief for tomorrow. That means I will need to turn on the light in the pump house and drip all the outside spigots before I head out. Don't want to deal with it tonight when I come in.

Good afternoon all. 8F this morning, dusting of snow and a few flurries and windy. Forecast high was for 8F have already made it to 13F. Cat doesn't want to poke his nose out on a day like this. Wind chill advisory until tomorrow @9am. Mostly staying indoors today, getting some skid lumber to burn Friday.

After picking up my new sunglasses this morning, which I will do my level headed, no pun intended...best to keep on my head and not under the rear tires of the tractor, I went food shopping and came back to bake. Made walnut chocolate brownies for the painter's three girls, and a double layer yellow cake with chocolate frosting for the carpenters. Tomorrow I'll find something else to make; running the stove gets the kitchen nice and toasty. And then I made some Tuscan bean soup for an early dinner, which now has me sweating. Feels good frankly.

Winds picking up, tree tops are moving around, going to be a chilly night. Interesting that the birds are going nuts on all the feeders. They seem to know what's coming too. I have a mealy worm feeder for the blue birds, which like to eat on the ground, so apparently they send up a volunteer to beat on the suspended worm cake (yuk....) so their buddies on the ground can have a bite to eat. Good collaboration for ground feeders.

Yes to moderating weather near the coast. My friend in Delaware experiences the same thing.

Little over an hour temp drop 7degrees,2F now and winds kicking up...heading for -20F

   / Good morning!!!! #28,694
Temps already down to 20 and winds over 20, forecasted gusts to 40 and temps of 9F, with wind chill at -4F.

Wood stove really cranking with the strong winds...already opened the cabinet doors under the sinks and took in the wind chimes, etc. Birds here are going nuts, too getting ready.

I sure hope power does not go out on anyone due to the wind. I always feel for the linemen who battle this weather to bring power back up.

Well, I gave the log splitter a go this morning right after sunrise, and let's just say I am still hopeful after a good workout with the pull rope. /won't be testing it tomorrow...taking my wife to doctor and too dang cold.

Drew, I've been using a sunglass lanyards, and it really helps to keep up with them.

Ever make Pizza on top of your wood stove?

   / Good morning!!!! #28,698
How do you do that?

Make up a pizza on a pan then wrap some foil on top and place on the stove. IE, this is still in experimental stage.

I hear the sound of a billion ice crystals forming...32 degrees and going down, to 15 tonight.
Probably sounds balmy to some of you further North. Can't imagine a negative sign in front of that.
Am glad all my new windows are installed, sure saving some heat loss vs before.

And I sure hope RS's heater keeps working. Dangerous in this weather if your heat goes out.
Of course one could sit in their truck and keep warm, listening to your plastic pipes burst. Unless you have a whole lot of those
warmer wraps on them and a large enough gen to handle that.

And almost absurdly the siding guys are coming tomorrow morning on possibly the coldest day of the winter to redo/finish the aluminum flashing on my house. I was considering residing at the same time, would make a better looking window but the quote range was $15-25k and I said no thank you. Not this year for sure. Hey, we can do your roof too. That's nice.....just fix my windows and come back another year. At least these guys are good, will insulate everything properly and will leave the place clean I hope. I told them I wanted the place fully tarped, no little metal bits in the mulch and lawn like last time. Magnet roller won't pick them up; too bad they don't make one for aluminum. I must have bent over a thousand times picking up that junk. It sure isn't going to decompose...belongs in the trash. The prior guys were real pigs; these guys "get it".
I am just seriously tired of picking up after sloppy workers. Couple weeks and it will be all done. Coming together nicely, after all the angst, going to be worth it. And I survived.

Not sure about the "half life" of Aluminum in the yard. :) If you ever want to get back at someone, put some 316 stainless steel sliver end mill shavings in their sleeping bag. Like needles, sharp as all get out, non magnetic won't rust away, and will prick you instead of bending out of the way.
