31 with 58 promised. Actually hit 60 yesterday.

Looking forward to having about 12 family members coming today. Will be cooking a ham as well as salmon on cedar planks. Maybe I will remember to get pix for Larro's thread.

Good morning all. 33 degrees at the moment but the temps will shoot up to 60 on a sunny day. Can't complain one little bit about that, just perfect. It's supposed to get wet again in a few days so I think I can justify playing outside instead of working on more boxes to unload. Actually I'm getting down to the end downstairs and that in itself is a motivator to just get it done. Once the boxes are out of there, or most of them, new carpeting is coming in and then I can put things away in their permanent place. Or that is the plan and it's getting closer. Five boxes of knicknacks and stuff went to my next door neighbor who is going to pick through it with her Mom and the rest will go to a local charity thrift shop. All stuff that never should have been moved here but I just ran out of energy and time before the movers came.

Of course I did take 33 garbage bags full of stuff to the local Assoc For the Blind thrift shop, so much went but much just got packed. This is when one learns/learned one's wife was a real packrat. But then if one looked in my woodshop, well I had more than one or two things in there.... birds of a feather.
But sooner or later one must confront a long life's full of things put in the basement to deal with "later".
Though I marked a lot of moving boxes "second floor storage" (no basement) and those boxes will not be looked into for some time. At least I found my stereo system yesterday in the bottom of a box marked knicknacks. Not a fancy system but basic surround sound and will hook up to the tv. I was not allowed to have a surround system with lots of those nice black speakers before, so now....I can't wait to hook them up.

On Christmas afternoon I took a long soak in the hottub, came out feeling great, and then unpacked for four hours listening to Allman Bros Eat a Peach cranked up and a few other albums that had me movin and groovin a bit. I have a Santana album in the garage boombox I should bring in too. A good friend gave me a lovely Streisand album. People, people who need people....like connecting dots, her name and that tune. But when unboxing one needs to think less and do more, stop pondering things and just triage, keep or stay. And that thumpa thumpa beat works great. But then the memories come with some of it.
It's ugly, but...;)

It's Saturday after Christmas and you all have things to "play with". Enjoy.
don't forget to be a little kid.

36F with some clouds. Should hit 40F today.

We are going to see both kids & DILs today in Sanford, ME. The Sanford son's house is about half way between us and the other son in Boston, makes a good meeting place. The weather looks fine today for the ~2.5 hour trip. Our 8 year-old step grandson is the only kid in sight and he gets a lot of attention at these gatherings of course. Fun to watch him grow up.

Have a fine day.

Good morning , 37F heading to 49F. Yesterday I got an antenna installed in the attic and wired throughout the house. Also got some wired selves but up in the closets so we can better organize our storage. Today the Christmas decorations come down and if I have time I will install the backup sump pump.

Good Morning all. A gray and dreary start to the morning. Temps are good, but overcast and weepy. Cold front pushes through in a few hours, so we've hit our high. The leading edge of the front is supposed to bring rain (75% chance of storms), then the temp drops quickly. Good for the pastures but makes for a lazy day around the house. We'll figure something out to stay occupied.

45 this morning and headed to 49 today with rain. Ground is already wet from over night showers. Must get cattle moved to their last paddock of green grass this morning. When it's gone it'll be hay time. Then finish packing. Taking the boy on his first road trip. Over to eastern TN. Just glad there's not a lot of snow in them there hills yet. Maybe traffic won't be to bad today. Dave safe travels.

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 39° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 56° with sun all day. Enjoying sun everyday is my plan for the new year. Got parts to get electric part of water heater working again. When it warms up it will be on the agenda. A picture of sunup in AZ should cheer up those in glummy weather.

Good morning! a warm 72˚ yesterday a cool 57˚ and cloudy now. The city relatives spent a nice day out here yesterday.

I need to find a way to get my BIL who was paralyzed several years ago and wheelchair bound out and about on our place. He misses going in the woods and on our trails. We tried but his motorized wheel chair gets stuck easy in the sand so that was out. He cannot move himself onto the golf cart (shoulder problems and transfer problems) so that's out, maybe a small low fat wheeled trailer behind the golf cart. . . . . or a motorized flatbed something that will secure his (motorized) wheelchair and he can operate it . . . . still thinking . . .

Any ideas welcome, thanks.

Ron, you are just plain killing us. You'll be sitting out under that awning this afternoon, getting out of the afternoon heat,
a book in hand, cold ice tea dripping nearby, and chatting with folks passing on by.
In your shorts...
sigh

actually my back porch is pretty darn warm in the afternoon sun. None of those lovely palms though.

Will be on the patio. But no shorts. 56° is still cool. Amazing how sun warms things up even when it's in the 50's.

Don, first of all, does he want to drive or be pulled? I'm thinking he needs to be in control. Is that chair tippy if it was on top of something flat?
though I suppose you could rig tie downs. You sure don't want him behind anything with a gas or diesel motor, the fumes...electric sounds great so stick with the golf cart. If his steering is best done with a joystick that kinda leaves out the golf cart or something similar with him driving, so
what then would give him the best view? Clearance issues going down trails? Is his chair really strong enough for this use? (How about a more rugged tire tread pattern on what he knows best?)

Not going to be easy getting a motorized wheel chair securely fastened on something a tractor or golf cart can move around. My mind is spinning but has not come up with a suggestion yet. May need a SUV that will travel the trails.

Now on the moment of introspection...

Actually I've done LOTS of introspection over the last couple years of upheaval as my life and vision for my future got folded, spindled, and mutilated...

Specifically it dawned on me over the 24th-25th morning that this was my first Christmas season without a child in my house Christmas Eve/Morning since 1985, and my first Christmas "Alone" in my house since my first marriage in 1983. I still struggle with being comfortable "alone" at times, but it keeps getting easier.

I'm not really "alone" I've got great friends who love me, at least my youngest and oldest still love me (the middle is a conundrum) and as much as I fretted over being "Fat, Fifty, and Dating" being my future back when my life had an IED explosion, even that has been a non-issue as there is a nice lady who like me a lot and has been sticking with me through all this crap for some time, and due to my exercise routine, I did turn 50, but did not get fat (photographic evidence provided from yesterday).

So I am looking forward to 2015 with a new job, a finalized divorce, a new lady, making new plans, having an altogether New Future... and Yes Drew, MORE SEAT TIME!

Be well all!
Here's to an AWESOME 2015! :drink:
David

Glad you're on the upbeat! I also see by your pic that you've been eating powdered donuts like me... :)

Look into rough terrain wheelchairs. A neighbor has one, he goes all over in the summer. It is motorized, goes faster than what I thought they would.
