34 this morning and light drizzle this will continue all day today thru tomorrow with heavy rain possible. It appears we are stuck in a rut and winter where have you gone?

Santa it appears will have a rough ride tomorrow night strong winds but clear skies

Shopping for me is done although clerk wrapping packages told wife what was in everyone by mistake. So much for surprises but it is the thought that counts in this joyful season
Glad to be home and in my own bed
Good Morning

Back home...I am, truck isn't. Guy coming toward me slid into my lane (on VT RT 12) and I evaded him...right off the road. He was nice enough to stop and assist, but the F-150 isn't getting back on the road without a tow. No apparent damage though...and, it is Vermont (land of "we'll plow it when it gets 8" deep").
I'll call a tow truck in a bit...coffee and dry trousers first.

Good Morning. 0525, rain, 66F with 100% humidity. Forecast high of 72F with 100% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, and a low of 65F tonight. We are still under a flash flood watch and it has been raining steady all night. The Chipola River has come up less than a foot so far, but is forecast to go from 9' to 18' by Friday.

I'm not thrilled about being awake at this hour, but can't get back to sleep so far. I'll be going in to work this morning to help with the grilling of steaks for our office Christmas party. Our big grill is out in the weather, but with just four of us to cook for, we will set up the small grill on the covered walkway from the kitchen to the cookshed.

Hope evryone has a good day,

Larro

Glad you are safe and sound sorry about stuck truck

Isn't the first time...last winter, I was coming down our little lane a bit quick (had to pee!), slide right off. I was within sight of home and got the Deere....which didn't do much since I didn't have the chains on...so it was shovel time....just enough to clear the tires.
Reckon I am due for new tires on the F-150, but that wouldn't have helped this morning.
Thinking about it...I need to get a tow strap in the truck, instead of the garage (ain't much help there!)

Roy, good defensive driving. Glad you are ok.
45 degrees in widespread fog, going up to mid fifties today, with thunderstorms
predicted later and thunderstorms tomorrow. Larro, what are you sending up this way?
All the recent rain has spun in off the ocean, and this looks like a mini Nor'easter headed up the coast.

off to go get my truck from the detail shop. Just too big for me to wax, and these guys, right across from the Kubota dealer, are super reasonable. I have to leave the truck out all the time and figured it really deserved some wax. At least there isn't much road salt put down this far South. And then, my big task of the day, is to find a mouse trap and terminate my new fat friend that I saw scurrying in the pantry. No pal, that cereal is all mine...Of course now I have to find the hole he came in at. Somewhere down in the far corner I bet. A little peanut butter appetizer for my new friend is planned. Attached to a serious spring...

32F now high of upper 30's.
Welllll so much for trace/dusting of snow the weather station said last evening, heavy wet snow just about at 3" mark and still falling at good rate w/rain to follow this afternoon. :(
Call city highway deptment and ask if they plan to treat the road because there 3 cars w/four way flashers on can't male the hills..this is the answer I got,"Highway deptment does't start work until 7:30am since there no school" I inform guy about 3" wet heavy snow he had surprise in his voice,he said "only 1" down in the city but we will send somebody up to check it".... someone has mighty short memory for we went thru this last 3 storms...geeeeee.

Looks like I'll be plowing mid day before heavy rains show up.

Enjoy the day all.

39.8F and wet here @ 06:30 ... high today is supposed to hit 50F and Christmas Eve day will approach 60F.

Doesn't seem like there is much chance of a white Christmas which is fine by me.

The younger HVAC dude showed up yesterday afternoon while I was up at the shop changing out some quick couplers on the Kubota. He pulls up in his truck, opens up the door and stands up in the door well, with the engine running, and wants to start a conversation ...

I told him to shut off the engine and just come on over to where I was working as I ain't gonna try to have a conversation over the noise of the engine. So we had a little heart to heart that lasted about 15 - 20 minutes.

By the end of it he was pretty uncomfortable and was really squirmin' ...

After that we went on down to the house so he could have a look. Diagnosis was another bad gas valve ... which I think I tend to agree with. He ran it through a couple of start cycles ... first he had only a small flame at the burner with the igniter and then no gas at all.

It doesn't seem likely that one could get two bad ones in a row ... but ...

If this model gas valve is peculiar to a specific model of furnace (and no others), and this model of gas valve has been out of production for some time, that would might mean that what we've been getting is old new stock that has been lying around for who knows how long, and has been stored in who knows what conditions ...

Could be that these valves were produced ten years ago or something ... and it could be that the storage conditions that they were kept in were questionable ... could also be something like maybe the lube that was used on the units when they were produced was good for 5 years ... and after that it turns into gum ...

These were my thoughts as far as what might be a reasonable explanation for two bad ones in a row.

So we're back at trying to source a new gas valve ... and however long that might take. With the holidays it might end up being a bit. Fortunately the temps over the next few days are supposed to be relatively warm.

There was some talk of trying to get the local Rheem or Honeywell reps involved ... I see the Rheem rep as more of a possibility than the Honeywell guy ...

I'll be giving them a call today ... to make sure the new valve has at least been ordered ...

Yep, already contacted the company...from your posts, it sounds worse south of Bethel anyway.

Sorry I'm late, iPad was low on kerosene, had to fill it up before I could connect with the cloud! Rain and very warm for a few days here.

Coffee has finished brewing. 49° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 66° with sun all day. Water heater repair did not go well. Never seen this before. Electric heater had arched in water and welded/corroded parts together. Needed a pipe fitting to replace original fitting. Ended up putting a plug in place of heater element. New parts on order. Should be here by next year. Still have gas portion of heater working.
Roy, glad you are safe.
RS, new furnace?
Drew, try waxing a 35' motorhome. I will not spend the money detailers want to do it.
Good Morning All.

RS, new furnace?
Ron,

Pick any of the following:

1. I hope not ...

2. Could be ...

3. Probably should have ... several years ago ...

37 and drizzle heading to 44 and rain.

What a scare, Roy. Glad you avoided a bad wreck and are okay. We're lucky here not to have that many snow days because every one has multiple repeats of what happened to you. Although the VDOT trucks come out in force to pre-treat the roads when snow is expected, and the local big farm tractors get paid to keep the roads clean, there are still many accidents every time it snows.

Well, it is so wet outside, I'll probably just go to the gym again for exercise, and then do some end of year paperwork and get ready for tax time, and try to catch up on some TBN threads. I missed the street light one, but sounds like it was a mess.

Yeah, yeah, I'm awake. But very tired. Awoken about 1:00 a.m. by a knock on the door. Seems the police had themselves another chase last night, which involved the pursuees running off road through our neighbor's fence, through their pasture, through our commong fence line, then through our pasture, then realizing that can't get out, then turning around and going back through the fence lines. Three fence lines down. Our neighbor's cows on the loose. Fortunately our horses were up in the paddock, or it could have been a disaster. Emergency repairs in the middle of the night by lantern and flashlight. Fun times. This is the third time in a year this has happened. Arrgghhh...

Now it's time to shower and head to Austin for the day. Fence repairs later this afternoon when I get home. Fun times.

...and I just got a reminder message from my phone that today I'm supposed to change my HVAC filters, so I'll go under the house and swap them out. I also need to clean out the woodstove ashes...guess I'll make a list because I just thought of two more things...where does the day go?

   / Good morning!!!! #28,058
30F and snowing steady, about 1/2" now.

Close call Roy, glad you zigged out of the way.

Drew, organic chocolate chip peanut butter for the mice. Every mouse deserves a good last meal.

sseelhoff Three car chase-ees through your fences in the past year? Who are these people? I'm guessing they have priors.

I need to roast the pork and chicken today that will be the filling for the Christmas baked enchiladas. Then shred it, stir in some black beans and salsa, let it marinate in the frig.

Be careful.

54 this morning and headed to 57 today. Suppose to drop after lunch when the rain moves back in. Been a fairly dry winter here so far. Pond still isn't running out spill way. Wife has doctors appointment so maybe I can get her shopping done. Her not having school this week really hurts.

Roy glad your ok.

Dave my enthusiasm for chicken comes from growing up not raising them. Roll eyes:). We eat chicken every night for supper and twice on the weekends for over a year once. Mom finally walked into living room and asked dad me and sister what we wanted for supper she was offering three different kinds of chicken. I answered anything but chicken. There was a freezer full of beef. Dad was rolling mom was mad. From then on I would call and see what was for dinner. If it was chicken I would eat something in town before going home.
