Drinking first cup of coffee. 38° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 64° with sun and some high clouds. Yesterday was a good day taking a Jeep up one of the many canyons around Sierra County NM.
My dad served in WW1. 2 of my brothers served in Vietnam. Oldest son spent many years in Army. None of them talk much about their service. I have a lot of respect for all who served or are serving. Thanks to them all.
Roy, cold. The reason I travel south trying to avoid the bitterly cold of the north. No sure what I will do when I cannot travel anymore.
Good Morning All.

44 this morning and headed to 52 today. Sounds like you guys up north are getting a workout this year with the snow. A pretty dry forecast for he next week here. Usually an El Niño means a wet year and winter for us but we are still fairly dry.

Good reading about the WW2 stories. Have an uncle that was in the Gulf War he doesn't talk much about it either. Thanks to all who did and are serving.

Gas prices dipped below a dollar a liter here over the weekend, wife says how sad it is that we are happy with that price.:mur:

$1.00 a liter works out to about $3.90 a US gallon, no reason to be happy when the US price is over a dollar less.:confused2:

Good Afternoon. 1345, mostly cloudy, 52F with 76% humidity. Forecast high of 53F with 10% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 36F tonight. It looks like our couple of weeks of Indian Summer is coming to an end. Highs in the 50's and 60's for the next ten days.

I lifted this morning, but didn't have time to finish. Will try to wrap it up after work. But I did take time to have chicken, tomato, onion and scrambled eggs. Had leftover leg quarters. Turned out pretty good.

My cousin, who lost her husband earlier in the year, and has been having trouble getting by on her own, has moved in with Mamma. She loves cooking and cleaning, so if they don't drive each other crazy, I think it will be good for both of them. She is used to having TV in her bedroom, so I upgraded Mamma's Dish package from 2 TV's to 4. {It was just $10.00 more per month} The tech is over there now, and I'm going back and forth, making sure he knows what we want done. Trying to get ready for work at the same time.

Everybody stay safe and warm,

Larro

Here is my uncle's WWII marine story. Uncle was 6' 4", strapping 240lb blue chipper football player with a scholarship/college degree. He joined the marine corp I think in 1943. He was supposed to go to OCS after basic. During basic, he got kicked while on the ground by the gunny. Back then they could punch and kick you at will. He got up and told the gunny something like "better not do that again" and then the fight started. Didn't end well for Gunny and my uncle got busted down to piloting an amphibious landing craft instead of OCS. At Iwo Jima, he was ordered to drop off his load of infantry, pull back off the coast a ways and get into a slow "circle" of other landing craft, and await further orders. Expecting to pick up wounded, he was ordered back to pick up 2 POW's and bring them back in 1 piece for interrogation. 4 marines loaded the 2 POWs at gunpoint and got into the LC. Not far offshore, 1 marine says "If we cut off their ears, there's enough for all 4 of us to have one." The others all said yes. My uncle said "That ain't happening!" Marine #1 stands up to my uncle and after a short bout, is relegated to the bottom floor of the LC. My uncle told the other 3 "Next one to stand up, gets thrown overboard in the shark infested waters." The other 3 stood down. POWs succesfully delivered.

If you carefully watch aerial war footage of Iwo Jima, you can see 2 circles of LC's about a mile or two off the beach.

13F, up three degrees in the last hour. Looks like the leading edge of the air bringing tomorrow's snow is moving in now. I have no idea how much snow we will get, not sure anyone else does either. Weather.com has been stuck on 3-5", NWS storm warning says 8-14". let's see: 3 + 5 + 8 +14 = 30 / 4 = 7.5" That must be how it works.

The dermatologist spray-froze one spot on my head and sliced off a biopsy on my temple. Good thing it's stocking cap season 'cause I have a funny looking haircut now.

My next younger brother served in the Army, late 70's. His 'war' experiences included well-lubricated bottle rocket fights on the beach at Okinawa. I met a lot of fine, dedicated servicemen while working at the NATO site in Germany. A military career is not an easy life without war. Hat's off for sure.
