Chance of snow 90%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected. That's for VA West of DC but not in the mountains for Wed night. I think if I leave early enough on Wed morning I'll be fine. Funny to think of VA as the snowy North... 59 balmy degrees here, calm between waves of this rain system coming through. More tonight for sure. We need it so fine, just no storms with it. One nice gentle rain please. Well now, it seems that a little raindrop with a ten gallon hat on it just went by, so I bet Texas really did send us this water. quiet afternoon watching a movie, now back to paying bills. whole lot of propane just delivered at 2.06 per gallon. How does that compare to any of you? New gas company; just curious. goes up and down anyway...

Good to see you getting rain. Steady slow rain here also. Times of heavy showers. 56 @16:25. Paid 1.45a gallon for propane about 5 weeks ago. Really believe we could see a repeat of last year. But I hope not. Nobody I've talked to acts like anyone made any changes to eleminate or minimize the risk. (At supplier levels and above).

Haven't gotton our fill of propane for the season yet still using what we got last spring so no help,
Think forecast by national weather service will change dramatically in the coming days, they still use American model which is flawed vs the European, think by Tuesday amounts will increase dramatically making 81 and 66 very difficult to travel 95 at onset not to bad. Being the start of holiday may have gaps in snow removal

57F and cloudy @ 17:45 ... snow is mostly gone here.

Laid down for a little nap this morning and woke up later than I wanted to ... around 13:00 ...

Still managed to get out there and skid all the trees out of the tree pile and get them laid out where the grass/weeds aren't 4' tall so they can be cut up.

Bonus: Now that the grass and weeds have died back, I managed to find my trusty old Stihl 031AV ... probably sitting right where I left it last time I used it, next to a pile of logs.

So part of tonight's activities will be to give it a little TLC and get it cleaned up and ready to go for tomorrow.

Supposed to be warm tomorrow ... near 60F ... but 50% chance of showers (100% chance tonight)

Good Evening. Thunderstorm, 1745, 64F with 100% humidity. Forecast high of 76F with 80% chance of rain, and a low of 66F. I had my comments about ready to post earlier when we lost power. It was out almost 4 hours. Just came back on a minute ago. We have had some pretty hairy storms pass through. Looks like there will be more tonight. But I was able to get a real good nap in. Also got the chance to do an emergency lighting inventory:D Margie and I had a nice candle light dinner, and was just about to start supper the same way.

Hope everyone had a good day,

Larro

Raining pretty steady here. Much better than snow! Got my hot water heater, seems like the water is really hot, I may ck that tomorrow.

I paid 1.90 a couple months ago for propane.

Well, Drew you're coming up this way for Thanksgiving, and I'm supposed to be heading about 15 miles from your new place...except Buppies is sending snow this way. That might keep me here...have to keep an eye on this forecast.

Well, I spent the whole afternoon trying to start my log splitter - no success. Finally got some time to try to split some logs I left unsplit last winter. Brand new splitter - bought in February and only used it several times over 2 months. Haven't started it since April, but always mixed fuel stabilizer/ethanol treatment and ran all the gas out before storing it under shelter for summer. Now, no start at all.

Anybody have any ideas? I know there are a lot of threads on wood splitters, and I plan to go re-read some of them, and do some Bing searches. Here's what I did so far...
-checked the oil and hydraulic oil,
- added new gas
- turned throttle to fast speed and pushed the primer bulb 3 times
- pulled the rope several times and repeated
- checked the spark plug and tested that I was getting a spark
- removed and inspected the air filter
- removed the fuel filter and tested that gas was making it this far
- said some magic words - but still didn't turn over
- shot one second of started fluid into air intake, replaced air filter and did get one second of run, then died. Repeated this.
- tried to flood it with primer bulb, just to see if I was getting fuel, but spark plug looked dry, and no strong gas smell.

This may be the last engine I buy built by this manufacturer, since I've never had this problem with any other make, but I'll give them another chance if I can get this thing going.

Thanks for any ideas.

What make of engine ?

I'd juice it with a little more starting fluid (assuming it's not a diesel) since that seems to get it rollin' ...

By chance is there a petcock on the fuel tank ?

If so, is it open ?

I see you added New Gas. Did you drain tank completely first. If not it may just be bad gas. Since it will run off ether. Not enough new gas to make it up to par.
Try adding some gas into carb. See if it will run.
Clean or replace spark plug. May be getting spark just not hot enough.
Check wires on coil. Make sure they're tight. (Don't stick finger in plug wire and pull rope though).

Still think those from Virginia north west of I95 should pay close attention to weather forecasts for Wednesday of this upcoming week. Turkey Day may be white 6in or more of white. Just saying

When I check the weather, It just says rain/snow mix.

Good evening all. temps in the 50's and rain all day, will check rain gauge in morning. Made it to church, did my church jobs, saw the stepson, and met with an electrician for some wiring updates today. Finished cleaning up the old wood pile yesterday dump the trailer tomorrow.

On the engine, try some injector cleaner in the gas tank, then pour few drops in intake, place hand over intake to choke as needed. Any carb with fixed jet and ethanol-gas can be a pain. And most are.

Paid $5.25 per gallon with my new delivery company. $6.85 per with Hawaii Gas :(

56F and cloudy ... with winds gusting out of the south @ 32 mph ...

NWS has issued a wind advisory starting @ 11 AM this morning ... they are calling for gusts of up to 57 mph. Showers are predicted ... mainly for this afternoon.

Temps will drop down into the 40's sometime this afternoon ... and then the bottom really drops out with the low tonight forecast to be in the upper 20's ...

Hopefully all the firewood will be cut and stacked by then ...
'
Got the door gasket replaced on the wood stove in the shop ... the old one had fallen off quite some time ago ... hopefully this will help as far as getting longer overnight burns ...

Need to finish up the weather stripping on the overhead door and get the last piece of drywall (1' x 8') put up to finish the ceiling ... that should make it a little warmer in there ...

Hope everyone has a good day.

Thanks, RS
You're quite welcome ... wish I could have been of some help tho' ...

No petcock.
Well crap ... that would have been an easy fix ...

Engine is a Briggs and Stratton Quantum 675.
Ahhh yes ... the old "Build 'em & Scrap em" as UB likes to call them ...

Have a few of those around here ... not my favorite brand by a long shot ... but that's what I have (a 6.5 hp B&S InTek) for my wood splitter ... assuming that I ever get the thing built ... again ...

The old 8 HP B&S on the Trac-Vac is a nightmare to keep running (literally ... it won't stay running after it gets warm) ... I probably need to pull the carb and go thru it ...

I wish you the luck I had with my chainsaw tonight ... emptied the old gas out, put fresh in, and it started after a few pulls. I consider myself extremely lucky ... considering where it had been sitting and for how long.

wow wow wow wow wow
sort of like living on a Swiss mountain top isn't it?
Boy at that much per gallon, how about trying some cheap vodka?
Oh, that's just for you when you pay the bill...:D
No wonder you want to harness the sun's rays.

RS, I just can't believe you left your nice chain saw outside in the rain.
in case it doesn't start, here's a little how to for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iFo06AkQ2I
at the end it tells you to put away.:D

68 degrees in rain going to 75. Hold on Larro, if I'm this warm, it HAS to be warmer down there, doesn't it?...

Looks like rain is headed out shortly. If it's going to be this warm today, I'm headed out to the end of the lane to paint some wooden fence posts that are a peeling mess next to the nice white plastic stuff. Just two uprights for the gate; which reminds me, need to get wheels for the bottom of my four gates.

Billie, the Quantums were pretty low end Briggs models. If you like the splitter, and it still starts unreliably, swapping out that engine for one from Harbor Freight for under 150 bucks is a good idea. Those Predator Chonda engines are smooth, quiet, and a close friend did exactly this swap, plus another for his garden tiller. He says the Chondas run like Hondas ,are definitely quieter and use much less gas. And bolt in perfectly.
Otherwise get the thing running, personally I'd give it a slug of carb cleaner as others have said, and run a lot of clean fuel through it.
If it still runs poorly, I wouldn't fix it. The new stuff really is better and most log splitters will last forever with some new hoses.

My log splitter is just itching to go. Was run all summer by a friend splitting a mountain of wood. B&S 1650, Pennzoil 10/30 synthetic, it just runs so smoothly and putters along. Wish I had an hour meter on it; starting to rack some up but that engine is a good one, so nothing against B&S. Will change the oil before I run it, and maybe will get some new hoses for it. TSC/Huskee did not spec very good hoses for their splitter.
I think we have one or two hose companies on this site. Might give them a try.
