43F and cloudy @ 18:00 ... rain in the area ...

Just got the fire rollin' in the wood stove here at the house.

Had freezing rain this morning ... hopped in the van to come down to the house around 10:30 and the only direction she would go was backwards (downhill) ... the tires just spun trying to go forward ... made it to the bottom in reverse and that was all she wrote. Left it at the bottom and walked the rest of the way to the house. Then had a bowl of the wife's beef barely vegetable soup and promptly fell asleep on the couch ...

HVAC guy called his morning ... closest place that had the gas valve was Cincinnati ... should be here by Tuesday, assuming UPS is on schedule. Fortunately it isn't going to be all that cold.

Scott,

Glad to hear you are (relatively) ok ... stay safe.

barely veggie soup, I'll bet that's heavy on the beef. Couldn't have possibly meant to type barley. This guy never makes a typo. :)

barely vegetable?
oh the psychic trauma inflicted on those poor vegetables, knowing they are so inadequate to have just barely made it.

now if they weren't swimming in their meds, those poor onions just might collapse into their last peels, feeling so inadequate.
I believe your vegetables should seek help immediately. You just have to get off that couch you spend three quarters of your life on and help
those poor things. They are so needy, so barely alive.

thanks Kyle, nothing like a friendly mosh pit when someone else is on the bottom

I've been on the bottom before in other types of situations. Drew, I'm surprised you know about moshing. Haven't ever participated myself, but have seen it before. Careless youth on mind altering substances.

Patio heaters work pretty good, a neighbor has 2, they burn up some propane, but they also get rid of some bugs!!!

As far as Kubota flame throwers, I've seen hydraulic hoses fail at work, @ 3000psi, the fluid reservoir empties in a few seconds! Very Messy. We had a 2 inch hose break once, it shot a few gallons of oil right into a HP printer I was working on. The printer didn't survive....

Well ... we killed that myth didn't we ?

(FWIW, I actually make all kinds of typos ... it's just that I usually catch 'em before I hit that "Submit Reply" button ... ;))

well my idea was about piling on, but yeah, mosh pits are/were usually for those clearly pushing the limits and some out
of control. I guess that's what they want, being out of control. Only read about them, not much of a rock band concert goer.

just saw the forecast for my brother's place in VA where I am headed next Wednesday. Snow. One to four inches.
That could make for interesting driving, though I'm on major roads and rte 95 much of the way.

Drew,

You might wanna recheck your math ... something seems a little off ...

My bike is resting comfortably today. I'll put some icy hot on the frame. She should be good to go tomorrow. :D

Sseelhoff good to see you bouncing back. Having rode many Texas miles in the past training for triathlons I know to survive biking one has to take defensive driving to a new level - right near paranoia.

Just got back from Dad's and got all his kitchen lights working without changing fixtures again. Thanks for the advice here about the T-8 and T-11 florescent bulbs which cannot work in each others fixture even though they fit. We just put some T-8 (smaller diameter florescent bulbs) in the new fixture that I installed last week and they are now working. These same T-8s in the other older fixtures will light up but flicker. Now I just have to find the right warm/cool light t-8s to match the other kitchen's (kitchen/warm) T-11s.

This evening it is a comfortable 66˚ and we have had almost 3" of rain in the last 30 hours.:cool2:

It's 61F with rain. Has rained most of the afternoon, but only .7" so far. Could be some heavier stuff tonight.

Drew, the best way to fight a grass fire is with a wet pine top. I cut at least two and put them on opposite sides of the brushpile in five gallon buckets of water. I also burn a ring of grass out to about 10-12 feet. With a hot fire, it is hard to keep the grass nearby wet enough not to burn. Taking the fuel away is the safest thing.

I don't try to ride my mountain bike on the roads around here. Some locals, especially those with big trucks, will harass you. There seems to be a inverse correlation between how high the truck is lifted, and driver IQ.

I think that is the case everywhere. I have also heard people say they are trying to compensate for other "shortcomings".

I hear ya. I've done a few triathlons and too many centuries and riding tours to count. My head is always on a swivel when I ride. I also always wear bright colors so that I can be seen easily. I was wearing a bright yellow jersey, so it's not like I blended into the scenery.

35 degrees and talking about the mid 50’s by noon!

   / Good morning!!!! #26,913
37 degrees going up to low sixties and yeah we just might get some real rain today, headed in later this afternoon.
Now if Texas can get three inches, well...we can sure get an inch. Only fair I'd say.
big sea of green below me on the radar headed this way.
think I might light off the burn pile again this morning and then let mother nature put it out.

Load of wash running and two on the floor. Hope to be a quiet Sunday catching up inside.
hope you all have a nice day

Plans for today...as they come, gas up pickup, clean gutters, let tractor run for while, walk about thru the woods and scare wildlife.

Enjoy the day all.

Coffee pot is brewing. 42° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 55° (Cincinnati, OH) with occasional rain in the afternoon. Motorhome is all packed. Ready to get on the road around daylight. I will leave the weather reports for my area to 300GUY and bakerg until next spring.
Drew, nice fire pictures.
Sseelhoff. hope you heal soon.
Good Morning All.

thanks Larro, that's a really good idea. Fire needs fuel heat and air. Take any one away and out it goes. On an interior fire, a nice fog pattern on the nozzle will take the heat down real quickly, converting it into steam which exhausts outside the unfortunate home. Assuming the firemen got the doors open and the ventilators in place fast enough. On a field fire, oh those old stainless Indian tanks did get heavy. Sometimes the little line of fire just seemed to go faster than you could walk, particularly after a couple hours of it. We had a historical steam train ride in my home town, which used to constantly light off brush and fields along the tracks it went on its hour long ride. Serious hassle during August and several times the local fire companies got the train company to run their diesel until we got some rain. The sparks flying out of that thing were a fireman's nightmare.

wet pine tops. Got to get me some of those. Now I did have a big flat snow shovel out too. That's a "Northern" trick and I doubt you have one of those in your garage. But a coal shovel is next best. I was all set to get on the Kubota and drag the bucket over the advancing line of fire if my buddy was not able to catch the front line in time but he did just fine. We had only fair water pressure so our twenty feet of "field fire" had to be terminated in a hurry. we had already wet the area but not enough. Then it got drenched, repeatedly. About four times I'd say. Every time I went back there I watered it again a little further out. Leaving that unattended at night near the woods and my barn would have been impossible without that nice three block high fire pit. Plus the wind forecast had to be light and it was.

Ron, have a great drive, safe and smooth.

41F and light rain @ 5:50 ...

Looks like much of the snow has melted.

Got hungry and decided to come down and get some of that beef barely soup with the vegetable drama ... and some chocolate chip pecan cookies ... and a coffee refill ...

Feels like I should throw a couple more logs into the stove ...

32 this morning high of 50 later with rain by lunch time. We had a good time yesterday wife and I. Went to pet smart to get cone for sons girlfriends sick cat then on to Fisherville to look at henry lever action rifles. Spent some time there looking at boy toys then off to eat lunch at a wonderful Italian restrauant in Staunton Emilio's sp then trip back down 81 home. Listened to Va Tech get beat on radio almost saw Florida State get upset by BC. Watched most of Virginia game until I fell asleep in my favorite chair.

Also managed to get DEF fluid for truck so that's out of the way

Tomorrow is going to beautiful even if it is Monday high in 70s and for late November you cannot beat that, especially since it might snow by Wednesday

Ron please be safe in your motor home lots of crazy people out there
