I was in Bangor working, during one of those spells, a few years ago. Ice and snow and 40 below. Not for me!

You must be pretty tough since not many used to visit on the real cold days. They stayed far away.

The clear skies that accompany such cold did provide a real display of stars, however. The sky would look like it was on fire with stars that looked like diamonds. Here's a milder version of the stars from a warmer night and it's almost worth travelling north to see.

Warm and raining hard, water everywhere. Had the kids all weekend, got o spend time with both grandsons and see them open Christmas gifts, great time. Made Carolina BBQ and it was good as usual.

Very nice picture...is that your farm?

Frigid nights are definitely the best for star gazing...sure got to dress for it though!
That was farmgirl's mistake...can't wear them "Daisy Duke" cutoffs here in the Great White North in December and January!

Well, at 1637...looks like the forecast has changed (again). Now it's 1-3 inches of snow and ice. I do hope the snow comes first!

No, not at all. It was just a forward to me. The view, however would be exactly the same. There is near zero light pollution in the frozen north and when it gets good and cold--way below zero--you can spend an entire night just looking at the skies. You see shooting stars and all sorts of things. The view is constantly changing and lots of people turn the lights out and just look out the window for hours on end. I know I did.

Yep...we're a couple miles from Bethel VT (population 2200 or so and most are outside the town center limits). The town basically rolls up the sidewalks at 2100 and very little light pollution for 30 plus miles after that.
The stars are pretty spectacular. Even prettier (IMHO) are those frigid nights when it's so bright (moon light), it's almost luminous.

Since I'm posting at 1830, may as well do a weather update:
Wet snow now...about 2" and accumulating rapidly. The prediction is one to three inches...I'll wager we see more then that.

I think you're going to see the Northern Lights where you are. The local news should tell when it's a good time to view.

Good Evening!

23*F, light winds, 4" of dry snow, should stop snowing around 2am. The 6-10 inch forecast looks about right.

WNW winds at 20-30 mph are forecast for tomorrow. Guess I'll be blowing snow in one direction only in the morning if that happens.

Be careful out there.

Looks like between 4 and 5 inches of snow here...unlike Dave1949...we got a wet snow. It is pretty...sticking to the tree branches and all.
I thought about going out and doing some shoveling or plowing...but if this turns to freezing rain, I'd rather that be on top on the snow.

34 and dark here (Weather Channel on my phone says it is cloudy, but I can't see anything).

Last Monday of '13! I believe '14 will be a better year for me.

Be well all,
David

Got the coffee brewing. 56° with rain this morning. Heading to 45° in the afternoon with continued rain. Weatherman claims we will get up to 2" of cold rain by this evening. Another day of staying inside. At least it's not freezing. Those up north please take care in the cold and snow.
Good Morning All.

-13 below this morning chance of snow later today with a high of 1

One is the loneliest number you ever will see
....and cold too!

good morning all. Lots of xmas trash to go out this morning, but no rush, they'll be running late today.
Today is a big day...getting on the tread mill after getting a year, or two...'s, worth of dust off it. Still ran quietly, unlike
my thump thump thump. I've got Paula Abdul on the little stereo in that room and I'll see how I feel in half an hour. going slowly for sure.

must have music on my mind this morning.
The way that you love me.....bump bump bump da bump

no, you can't stop now
keep going you fat slug
groan

luckily I actually enjoy it. Have a universal gym and a recumbent bike, they'll get dusted off too.
My number one new year resolution is to get healthier. A common one, but sure important.
I was at 260, went down to 210, back up to 230, headed for 200.
Less lard to haul around can only be good for my back anyway.

A little stretching and lots of breaks guys with those shovels. We want you all reporting in tomorrow morning.
