Hi Drew,
After the move from PA to VT...then the move from the rental house to our home...well, I'm not even sure where that hat is!!
As far as today's chores...dunno yet. Babysitting the dog while drinkin' a few brews might be the extent of the chores.

Sounds like a good plan. And I am making a resolution of making better posts here. :)

For the newbies thinking of moving to the country remember that a paved road to your property is a BIG plus!!

Have a safe 4th!

No doubt a paved road is better.

When we first came to Vermont is the Spring, Summer and Fall of 2012, we looked at a number of houses on dirt roads. Most, but not all, were easy to get to during the Spring, Summer and Fall...Winter and Vermont's mud season...different story!!! You'll want a good 4x4 and good snow grips for those seasons.

Good 4th Of July Morning! 73˚ not a cloud in the sky, dry, dry, dry. A county burn ban is in effect after several brush fires came dangerously close to homes.

Instead of a mile of grave road to get to our house we now have 4 miles. No, we did not move, they just tore up the battered blacktop road and turned it into a smoother gravel road. With it being so dry here, there are large clouds of red dust following each vehicle.

Don, they did another county road like that, but they ended up re-paving it. Hopefully yours will get re-paved. Call the commissioner. Oh, and good morning. 76 degrees here and a small chance for a daytime heat shower but I'm not holding my breath. No rain for weeks here, and little prior to that.

I believe a little splash of beer in the dog's dish might help with your bonding :D

Back in 2001, we had a rat terrier named Buster. He would find beer cans people had thrown out along the road and chew them up into small pieces. I could never understand how he could chew those cans to pieces without cutting his mouth. But then one day I was on the computer when my wife can hurrying into the room, all excited, and told me, "There's something wrong with Buster." She thought he was bad sick. So I went in the living room only to see him staggering around, ran into the wall, made his way to the front door, and when I let him out, he tumbled down the steps. I told my wife, "He's drunk." I found a halfway chewed up beer can in the yard, but he obviously found a full, or partially full, one. He puked in the front yard, made it back up the steps, and when I let him in, he went straight to bed and slept for several hours. Then he was OK. But I sure wish I'd had a video of him that day.

Txdon--See if they can put down some calcium chloride to keep the dust down. Sometimes in rural areas you need to ask but they for sure will understand what you are talking about. If they want you to do it yourself you just need a drop spreader. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm thinking they will eventually (hopefully sooner) re-blacktop the road.

It looks like there might be some environmental concerns for using calcium chloride that would come up before the county could purchase it. Have you used it on your own private roads without problems?

In my area the use Brine but what ever they use would not be good a vehicles in the long run.
