Great news, Drew.

We may never know the big plan, but sometimes it sure is nice to be allowed to participate.

Drew -
Hang in there.
I was going to tell my story but you had told us not to respond to your earlier post so I held off.

My story, it's long but worth it:
In 2008 SWMBO (about 60 at the time) was a tad overweight and had been working REALLY long hours as a Real Estate Attorney for the Corps of Engineers in DC. She was trying to get some regulations through. By quirks of fate our then 24 yr old daughter was living at home and they carpooled into DC. She came down to go to work and found my wife flustered and weak in one arm. She immediately got her in the car and over to emergency, about 1 mile, and called me. I worked 1 mile away, so rushed over.

My wife had a small stroke, a small clot. She spent about 2 days in intensive care and was released, seemingly fine. She came home for a bit of rest and recuperation.

About 3 weeks later about when she was starting back to work she had a doctor's appointment. She drove herself etc. When I got home from work, about 1510, she complained she had felt light headed at the Doctors. Which caused me to spit nails and fire. I finally convinced her to let me take her to emergency again.

This time she had had a pretty bad stroke. A bleeder. My memory doesn't serve me well but she/we spent about a week in the ICU. They would let me sleep there as long as I sat upright and responded when spoken to. At several points they convinced me to seriously plan on funeral arrangements. She couldn't move or talk. She finally got well enough to move parts of her left side and respond to us, but couldn't always recognize us.

They then moved her to a critical care facility. That was a relief because they would let me sleep in a chair beside her. She regained partial use of her left side, but her right side (and she was right handed) was numb.

I hope to never forget the day she twitched her little finger on the right side. It was one of the happiest days of my life. Through sheer determination and months of physical therapy she gradually regained virtually all muscle control. During the entire recuperation process she would complain about not being able to do something and I would respond "Yes, I know, you can only leap small buildings".

Another thing stands out. One of the "tests" the doctors used on her recovery was if she could snap her fingers. I wasn't there the first time they tested her. But I came in on it the third or fourth time they tested her. She couldn't do it and was about at tears with the doctor standing there urging her to snap her fingers. I almost shouted at the doctor "SHE NEVER COULD SNAP HER FINGERS", as long as I have known her. But she was trying for the doctor and wouldn't admit she never could before the stroke. She can't whistle worth a hoot and never could either.

That was early 2009, now 4 years later she had worked for a few more years, retired in 2011 and is presently down in Mississippi overseeing repairs at our retirement abode and visiting her mother (who's about 88 and still very active). She drives and is almost 100% recovered. She just get's a little dizzy when she cranes her neck, so I tell her - don't crane your neck. I'm planning on her being around another thirty years.
And she now leaps two story buildings :)

So Drew - HANG IN THERE
Really happy to read she's getting better.

Great story Newbury, an inspiration! We're all just people and small parts in a big puzzle, our place is not always where we thought it to be.

If Bubba doesn't get better soon, I'll try it. Anything for my buddy.

I might just go ahead and get him on an appointment book. The lady vet here can book up a couple of weeks, (or more) in advance. I keep mine on a routine visit, about every 4-6 weeks. I think having them done regularly, keeps them feeling better, and like you, anything for the "furkids". I also used to haul them to an animal massage therapist too, until the lady moved to Oregon.

daugen; Thanks for sharing the great news! You will both remain in prayer here.

Well, I have an accidental garden of sorts. I'm sure some mulch or something I used in a flowerbed contained tomatillo seeds. I had volunteer tomatillos in my garden a couple of years ago and cut them down. That same year, I had three or four in a flowerbed where I used the same mulch and I let them grow and mature, eventually tasting the green fruits. This year, I had three plants come up in a flowerbed and thinned them down to one plant. It's outgrowing everything else in the flowerbed and is already about 2' tall. I may make some salsa verde with the fruit.

Drew, I'm happy for you and your wife's improvement. I sure think you've made a wise decision to get some help around the house. You'll do nobody a favor if you undo your surgery. I'll send lots of positive garden thoughts your way when I'm pickin' veggies from my garden.:D

I love salsa verde! I didn't know tomatillos did that well around here. Might have to plant some of those, next year!

We have had lots of the famed Florida liquid sunshine all day. But the total for the day is a hair less than an inch. It's 71 degrees, 93% humidity with steady rain.
The wife and I went up to the Wharf Express in Marianna for an early supper. Real good sea food for a chain store. After a stop at my sister's to pick up two hampers of Purple Hulls, [already shelled] we came on back home. There was break in the rain so we went to pick peppers and look for tomato worms. We had got a bunch of the former and a few of the latter, when it started to pour. The garden isn't much over a hundred yards from the house, but we were both soaked by the time we made it inside.
Looks like we will be having poppers and fresh peas with our grilling tomorrow. It's lucky we have one of those George Foreman's. The chance of rain is 100%.

Reading the last day's worth of posts here has been inspirational.

I am humbled to hang out with all of you.

Drew, I'm praying. Newbury, PTL! What a story!

I get a play date with my youngest daughter today. I stuck my neck out and asked and she said yes. I am very certain we are headed to the Big D (her choice, not mine, nor God's) but I will take all the small victories I can get.

Meeting her and Pastor tomorrow, and we shall see what we shall see...

God Bless all of you,
David
