I've had a hankering for fried oysters for about a month now. Finally broke down and made them this afternoon. Turned out pretty good for first time making them.

I always remember the name Barney Oldfield but didn't know it came from tractors.
I found this video well worth the time. Watch when you have a little time.
Allis Chalmers fans will love it.
when tractors went from steel wheels to rubber
and when tractor racing was a really big deal

I bet the Europeans turn up their Fendts and go racing

am amazed those rear tires stayed on their rims at that speed, they must have some kind of bead lock?

always found tractors to get wobbly and unhappy at higher speeds. Last one, the big Massey, it's top gear was one I never tried.
clearly made to go a lot faster than I wanted to.

I also found the sound of a Kubota hydro whining at top speed to be kinda unpleasant.
all the fast stuff must use powershift gear trans where they can add a taller top gear I guess.

so....begs the question
how fast have you gone on your tractor?

I believe some are rated from factory at 30+mph.
Most of us have/had hydros so top gear in those is much lower usually.

if I was in Texas and had four miles to get back to the barn, and the road was flat,
need for speed sure comes in
but if you are towing anything, can't imagine going too fast with that.

ever see a combine going by at 30mph? I haven't....
Roughly of the top of my head;
Quite a few of the newer tractors with front axle suspension and front brakes can do 30 mph a few up to 35 mph,
Most with the front suspension can do 25,
Many can do 20 mph.
Then of course there is the JCB lineup of Fastrac's hang on for up to 43 mph.

I remember the scene in Footloose, where they played chicken with tractors. I always thought it was so stupid, never thought real farmers would do something like that with their tractors.
How's about square dancing with tractors :) here's a short video,

It’s very quiet recently. Ride to Princeton today just a short visit saw some snow on ground came back averaged 21.5 mpg not bad considering terrain on US460.

May all have a great night

Good evening all. 40ºF for the start. clear sky, light breeze. Moderate south wind, some gustiness, some scattered clouds, and high temp was 74ºF. Made coffee to start the day, then drove to Dent for 62 mile bike ride. Then went to custom distiller for lunch, then came home. No nap.
Bill wonder if vote buying will work or not.
David sorry about spending too much at Costco. Glad Ridgeline sold.
Ron glad vent tube installed. Glad you made progress on spite of inside day. Hope you got to net today. Nice squirrel.

Drew hope dinner food was good and the friend time was good also.

Drew thanks for the link, Learned a lot for the video. Some fast tractors. Have roaded both my 8N and Ford 1700, 12 mph was about it.
Frits was it fun watching snow yesterday knowing it would be gone soon? Hope D gets her remedies from issue.
Drew have not seen or heard of and tractor racing in Midwest.
Dennis I agree hard to believe farmers that work so hard to keep them running would ply silly games like that.
Scott(vt) bet pizza party was fun and yummy. I use briquettes with mesquite which adds flavor :) Love the pic.
Don sorry no Costco run, hope lawn mow and grocery run were successful. Hope burner was SS. Takes a bit to get hot water to faucets here. Glad Hospice had a good day.
Buppies nice car pics. Glad ram may be ready, and BS hanging in there. Livongo wants me to check BS in morning, but I am trying to get a handle on what drives BS whacko and what does not. Highest reading has been not eating and drink 2-3 cups of partially caffeinated black coffee. prayers sent
Gstrom no experience with cats on a leash.
Bill I think the cats I have had would left the same presents.
Bill enjoy conserving energy.
Ken glad you got some rain. Hope wedding goes well. Not eating while traveling because of GI problems? Hope good trip to wedding.
Kyle thanks glad wallet never left premise :) Sounds like a bad wreck, people need to use more lights on car to be seen. Sorry about the impending boss change. Hope it goes well.
RNG wow getting a lot of rain. good luck with lights in guest bathroom. Hope welding project goes well.
Kyle I agree, that's why never tried to put leash on cat :). We put a warming pad out on work bench for outside cat, he would come to porch when ready to go in at night. Had to nail down carpet over pad because cat wanted straight on pad we didn't think it was good for him.
David hope you get back to normal soon.
Bill most bad bosses don't seam to realize they sink their own ship.
Frits hope didn't have to wait long.
Randy glad wood stack progressing well. Hope church was good.

36 going to 61.

Kyle, hope the boss situation ends to your liking.

Engineer, oysters are about my favorite food, and yours look delicious.

Buppies, that sounds like a nice drive. Never been all the way to Princeton, think we turned around at Narrows.

Ron, sounds like a rest day is deserved.

Seems like a habit...roasted 3 batches of coffee, then took Della to the park for a hike and a swim in the increasingly colder river. I stayed up on the rocks.

Morning all!
Cloudy 40 out going to a high of 45.
Coffee with family went well. Guest headed home yesterday. Spent a few hours with my cousin cutting and prepping logs into usable size once they left. Need to seal the ends this morning to slow down or eliminate the cracking.

Will be heading out to wife's family today after lunch and tomorrow for a breakfast meet up. She is celebrating 62 trips around the sun yesterday! My side did it at the coffee meeting.

Kept busy in the shop the last few days. Mill owner paid me to make a special display item for his office. I didn't want any money as he gave me a load of wood already! He insisted I take it and use it for shop supplies.
I decided to make him two dishes and a holder.

IMG_9882.jpg
I also decided to play with a block of wood and see if I could make a bent stem for an idea I had in my head. It worked pretty good. Made a hollow box flower out of apple with a padauk cover for the seed pod. Used green and brown dye on the base.

Working on a few other projects that should be completed this week.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

good morning all
slept in, very tired from entertaining last night and what a mess to clean up after friends left.
Turkey was good, moist and juicy though I didn't heat it up quite enough.
homemade cranberry apple pie for dessert was perfect, made with very little sugar.
We were all stuffed.

no plans for today, just want to veg and do as little as possible.
high of 55 in sun and clouds.
ten day forecast shows very cold weather ahead, five mornings in low 20's.
The time has surely come to drain my outside hoses, but maybe I'll get to wash the rv one more time.
Today and tomorrow look like last of warm days, so perhaps that's what I'll get in to later.

Good morning, the low is 29 and going to a high of 34°F. Wind NW 6 mph. 30% chance of flurries.

Belated Happy Birthday, mphams' wife!

Happy Birthday, scott_vt S-I-L!

I think I will conserve energy today. Waiting for the snow to come. Maybe we will get lucky and it will pass north of us. I'm not holding my breath.

Have a safe day all

   / Good morning!!!! #199,754
Good morning! 61˚F heading to 80˚ with S wind. No rain in the 10 day forecast.

The potatoes I planted 2 weeks ago are up in the back yard. I will probably let the horticulture garden go back to the club to rent to someone else since I now have plenty room in the back yard.

The uncovering of the burner in the fire pit had several problems. The pipe to the burner was rusted and the on/off valve did not turn on the gas, it must be shut off somewhere in the attic. I can't fin any instructions and the last owner did not use the fire pit according to the neighbors. The burner itself seemed to be in good shape, but won't know till I can get the natural gas flowing. Another project.

was watching a video of the damage caused by Hurricane Helene to Black Mountain NC, pretty much due South of Buppies.
one of the silver linings after all the human tragedy and loss is the unvealing of new geological attractions due to erosion caused by rivers and
streams in that area. All those different rock strata, this video showed the discovery of an old stream bed that had been silted over by ten feet of soil.
lots of field trips by high school earth science classes in mind.

I always wanted to be near the water and not in the water.
But if you live downstream of a reservoir, I'd sure take an interest in where the water goes when a "fusegate" lets go on the dams.
When I go up to my friend's cabin in the Catskills over more than 50 years, I have witnessed the Margaretville supermarket get totally washed away, twice.
if you live in/near the mountains, the area is beautiful but knowing where you are in the watershed would help planning.

We had a famous restaurant in town called Odettes, named for Odette Myrtle, a washed up
tarted up Broadway hasbeen resting on her marginal reputation, who ran a French restaurant in New Hope, right on the
Delaware River. I started working there at age 15 bussing tables. Made very good money but knew my boss was a miserable human being
who didn't mind serving smelly old hamburger to the staff.
Building was wrecked in Flood of 1955 and rebuilt.
Wrecked twice again in floods and last time the owners simply gave up.
They took half the stone building that remained and moved it half a mile away to lot in town and made an info
center out of it.

Anything that gets built along the river now is raised way up there, first floors can only be garages.
Right now with drought it's really low, sandbars and river bottom showing.
will take a lot more than what we just got to fill it back up again.

worst time for floods to come if there is ice on the river.
Then the ice crashes into property and homes in my area and further South on Delaware River, usually wrecking homes
in Yardley.
hard to imagine when last winter it didn't even snow here enough to use snowblower.
but you just never know.

my little town could be the next Asheville NC. It was in 1955.

Good Morning
46° and mostly cloudy. High of 50 and breezy for today.

Yesterday was another day of puttering followed the recliner in front of a fire. Started with making waffles for son and DIL.
IMG_5678.jpg

Went down to oldest son’s so my grandson could introduce me to their new puppy. He’s a Bernese Mountain Dog/Poodle mix. A Bernerdoodle? They are still wrestling with names. They were centering around Home Alone or Aviation themes, be curious to see what the final pick is.

IMG_4619.heic.jpg

Went to retrieve the trash cans, and discover that they were never emptied. A call to the trash company made me endure questions like “were they out for collection”, but after a very long 5 minutes or so on the phone they said that they would dump them on Monday.

Looks like the boys are coming to play music around 1 today, so I’ll see what I can accomplish in the meantime. Nothing planned, just Zoe and I hanging out until my Wife comes back from her fiber festival this evening.
