All the factors you listed, warm bodies, asphalt & Concrete, a/c, loss of trees contribute to more heat and are due to humankind.
The tree plantings on the slope down to the creek are now 30 to 40 feet tall with a complete canopy and it is substantial cooler around there. The deers like to stay under there during the day and come out early evenings to the open grassy fields. I think we are up around 10000 trees planted with 80 to 90 percent survival rate
When the canopy is established there is little maintenance needed and no weeds. Someone will be able to harvest some valuable wood after we are long gone

If trees planted as part of a MD program, probably can't legally harvest the trees...

85F with a mix of sun and clouds @ 13:00, DP 74F, HU 67%, feels like temp = 94F.

Woman is off to PT appointment.

Got live trap repaired and redeployed yesterday afternoon.

Then mowed compost/woodlot.

Put the Light Material Bucket back on the Kubota and brought down enough screened compost to build up the entire eastern edge of the garden.

Shot groundhog and hauled him by the compost pile and deposited him with his sibling.

Woman came out and was watering while I did that.

After that I started working on planting the dozen or so eggplants. Got those mostly done, until I let the thunder and a few drops of rain run me in around 20:00. Think there are 2 cells left.

I was hungry anyways and the fish was done and sitting on the stove. Had one piece of cod and one of tilapia. Both good but I prefer the cod.

After dinner I took the Cub up and parked it in the shop so I wouldn't have to start it this morning and the engine would be cold for the valve adjustment today.

The shop had been 82F when I turned the AC on, it was down to 73F when I parked the Cub.

Came back down to the house and headed out back and put the game cam up and turned it on. Just retrieved the SD card out of that, looks like the only thing it recorded was my futzing around with it when I turned it on.

UPS just delivered the 4' bamboo plant stakes. They look decent. Most of those will need to be cut in half and pointed on the belt sander.

Woman is back ... but heading out again shortly for lunch with a relative.

Need to head up to shop and get the AC cranked up.

Then come on back down and watch the video from Kohler on how to adjust the valves.

Hope everyone is having a decent day ... (y)

Flew the drone around a little just to experiment on flying and not signing into the account. It limits me to 30m up and 50m out. DJI keeps records of all your flights, some are in chinese, some appear to be encrypted files. crashed it again, hit reverse instead of down...lol

87 going to 90 feels hot for sure

Bought a bunch of groceries for son and DIL. Out of work for medical reasons so this will help them out.

Ran the second AC on the roof of van to keep Cody cool in the back

Mowed some more yesterday in the upper plantings

Flowers look good this year. They are very old bushes

Maybe making progress. Talked with dealer tech and he is working on a way to come to me vs hauling tractor back to dealership.

Anyone know where OBD2 connector is located on my XR4140?

Good Morning David,
Curious what was the problem with the SCAG ? Sorry if I missed it earlier!

Apparently the Electronic Control Module Which I had replaced only a short time ago. We found removing the 2 black leads from the coils solved the problem. Those leads go back to the ecm and possibly are part of shutdown function. We could see spark at plugs but guessing too weak. Now it runs until carb runs out of fuel, just a few seconds. Got a new ecm but not in hurry to replace, ace as long as it runs.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Ron. Hope many more get deducted off the count!

David, the OBD II port should be behind the dash on the right side. Note that I said "should be"....

Drip irrigation day again. Cut the times back per zone just a little. Good chances of t-storms / showers now forecasted for Thursday through Sunday. Hope so....

Our local news just reported that the Ruidoso fire has burned 1400+ structures, over 8500 acres big and growing. Zero % contained. One death. Close to 10,000 people evacuated. There are some rain showers forecasted for the area, so hopefully will help with getting some containment.

Need to head out to the grocery store and the pizza place.

Have a great day!

I'm curious to see how those blinds work out for you, Don. Still haven't purchased any window coverings at the new place.
We are EXTREMELY pleased with our blind selection. They are

Sitting outside under the veranda 75˚F watching the light rain making little circles on the pool surface.

Biopsy was not too painful results next week, a little less blood with each gauze change. No spicy food for a few days. Pain pills are working - no pain. Taking it easy today.
The plumber moved the natural gas valve under the BBQ pit from the back to the front so I can now just open the lower door and turn the gas on/off. no more painful crawling to the back with my metal knees.

Someone just tried to hack my FB account, by pretending they needed to send me an access code to unlock their account. Didn't sound right, took me a minute to figure out what they were doing.

Valve adjustment on Cub started:

IMG_3307 copy.jpg

Think I can just pull the ROPS to get the clearances I need but we'll see. Will need a hand lifting it off.

I removed the seat and will do a mod for The Woman on that so it slides further forward.

Also got the rear hitch removed and a piece of 1/4" x 4" angle cut in the bandsaw to length for a lowered hitch for the core aerator.

Came from a friend's old King Kutter landscape rake that I rebuilt for him. Was in pretty rough shape, but the piece I salvaged from it should be fine for what I'm going to use it for ... once I run over it with the needle scaler and throw some fresh paint on it.

Got another shot off at another big groundhog ... think I missed it though. Haven't been back there yet to see if the other one is lying over in the woods.

Currently 88F (feels like 101F) ... shop is in the mid 70's though ... :giggle:

Went to the grocery store..... noticed some dark clouds way south.... 15 minutes later, horrendous sound of hail hitting the store roof. Then power went out. Had to wait 20 minutes to check out, computers had to reboot.

Wifey called me, 1/2" to 3/4" hail.....very dark, very windy, changing directions. She was concerned about a possibility of a tornado.

Going home, looked like snow along the road! Lots of hail. Pulling in the drive, bunch of shredded leaves, flowers, plants. Will assess further tomorrow. I think a few branches down too.

Power is out for our area, 6700 customers according to the co-ops outage map. On my way home, about 1/2 mile from us, there was a power pole snapped in half, upper portion barely staying attached. Fire trucks blocking the road.

Pulled the generator out and got our power going. I'm fairly certain that power will be out for a while.

Radar shows another storm moving our way.

David, glad you found the port! Yes, they don't place it in an area easy to get to.

RS, I understand your philosophy on the soaker vs. drip. Drip can be a pain with hard water. I found some drippers that can be taken apart and cleaned.
Soaker hoses might be your best bet.

Pop, hope you don't get much static at town hall over your build permit. I had believed it was all settled.

No problem at all. They agreed with me that their solicitor was in error, and would make the revisions at no charge (as he should).
They also said that nobody ever reads that stuff, they were surprised that I caught it (they sure didn’t).

No joy with my OBD2 code reader. Did a good job showing running info, but not reading any codes.
IMG_1830.JPG

Not should what this really means and choosing any provided no info. Proprietary?

I did exercise it to the point of repetitive stalling which I suspect is temp related rather than wire rubbing on frame.
