If you look at the reasons the roman empire fell, and you look at world events today, it gets scary. Influx of invaders, over taxation, over expansion, failing infrastructure, political infighting, division of power, lack of central leadership, political corruption, mass migration and loss of traditional values.
The eastern empire maintained a good while after the west fell, but eventually fell also.

Not enough Cicero's {and other citizens} and way too many slaves. With today's 1%'ers, there are similarities.

Good Morning. At 1030 it's mostly cloudy, 78F with 76% humidity. A band of thunderstorms is headed our way. Should reach us about 1400. We have got about 6 robo calls about the weather. Trees are still falling and they want everyone to be careful. Good advice.

I cut a road into my river camp yesterday. Wasn't too bad. Wish I had got to it sooner. I camped last night for the first time since the storm. I used myt new Breeze mesh tent and Chill Gorilla tarp. Took a while getting them both tight. Might use two ridgelines in the future.

I cleaned out the big tent. Kind of like an archaeological dig. Amazing how much crap I had down there. {including a large storage tote of new tarps. Wish I had remembered that a couple three weeks ago} I was able to put the big tarp back up. The grommets were ripped out where it was tied before, but I was able to flip ends with it, and since I had used the end ones on one end, and the next to the end ones on the other end, when I flipped it, I had good grommets to go back the way it was. Well, I did have to move the center back since those grommets were gone. But everything is under cover now. Did not get a chance to hang the big tent to dry. Will look into that after the storm passes.

Speaking of storm, I got the tree cut off the shed yesterday. Need to sweep and get a tarp down before the rain gets here. My back let me know yesterday that I had done all the chainsawing I needed to do for a few days.

Hope everyone has a good day.

63 currently and that’s the high for today. Dropping all day. It’s been raining all night. Already turned rain gauge over for winter so no idea how much we’ve got. Guessing an inch or so.

Managed to get the winter pasture sowed before the rain. Wanted to sow some triticale but farm supply didn’t have any. So I used a mixture of 2/3 wheat and 1/3 cereal rye. I normally just use the wheat. Interested to see what the rye does. This will all be grazed out.

Need to do the winter equipment shuffle and get everything stacked into the barn. Still have some manure to haul. But just got the starter replaced yesterday on the big tractor. Ordered it Monday and it came in yesterday and has to go back Friday. As another starter is supposed to be in. This one came in damaged and they told me to use it till they got the replacement. It’s not difficult to change. They weren’t happy with the manufacturer as it was a direct ship. Locally owned Napa.

Birds are all in and doing well. Have been feeding some hay as I’ve locked the cows off the Johnsongrass fields. This weekend they’ll go back to them as they should be dry enough now. Still some grazing left. Maybe till thanksgiving or first of December. Expect last cow to calf any day now.

Roy hopefully your on the mend.

Drew. Good fishing. Unbelievable food totals there. Have you thought about a moldboard plow? Then disk.

.We are officially "empty nesters" today. The Wife picked up the boy from work last night and took him to his new place. She said he was somewhat surprised that all of his stuff was already there, including his bedroom furniture. Now, we need to redo the basement bedroom. Just minor stuff, though, like wall touch-ups and carpet cleaning.

Congrats, but don't forget to change the locks!

Forgot to mention the insurance adjuster came a couple of days ago. He included the deck in the damage, even though it only had one pine on it. But with it an "other structure", and since I lost the pumphouse, pole barn and two sheds, I reached my "other structure" limit of $25K pretty quick.

But what I thought was minor roof damage turned out to be bad enough for a new roof. So that will be a good amount of change. My two coworkers are both contractors, so maybe I can get one of them out to see if tightening up the loose screws will be enough of a fix for now. In a couple three years roofs will be much cheaper and easier to replace. Metal roofing and roofers are in short supply right now.

72°F and zero rain. Maybe another couple hours knocking down the guinea grass. This area actually has some sugar cane mixed in.

Friend turns 65 today. His birthday party starts at noon.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

now this was fun...

JD salesman coming this morning to appraise my Kubota. He said JD and Kubota with a FEL were easily sellable, they would like all they can get.
Ok, now give me a good price...
where does one find "book" price on a tractor?
Am still not sure I'm going to do anything but worth the discussion.

Mooooooo

He still has a key, as does his older brother in Texas. Wife did send me a text while she was out last night reminding me to take his code out of the alarm system. If he ever needs to get in while we're not there, we can disarm it remotely from a phone app, then re-arm it after he's gone. Can't really think of any reason he'd need to be there when we're not, though.

Spent some time last night making a phone call to my old drummer from the Sammy Hagar tribute band. He had his right leg amputated just below the knee back in August, and has been in rehab for awhile now. He's supposed to get fitted for his new socket this week, and should have his interim prosthetic leg in place by next Friday. Looks like he might be walking again before the holidays. Doctors told him he's about three months ahead of the normal pace for recovery. He's always had a go-get-'em approach to life, and it seems to be serving him well now. Was great to hear him so upbeat about it.

That's good news! seems we always hear about the ones that don't go well, but often never hear of the good results. I'm sure he appreciated the call.
