Was hoping others would chime in with their experiences ... (y)

I have had a Porter Cable, DeWalt, and a Makita portable saws over the years. A couple of years ago, the Makita bit the dust and I bought the Rigid table saw. IMHO, it is the best of the bunch.

Many adjustments are able to be done such as micro adjustment on the fence, the tilt arbor, etc.... Plus, it has a LIFETIME WARRANTY as long as you get it registered within 30 days.
I can attribute that the warranty is real. I have taken in a reciprocating saw and a jig saw under warranty. No questions, no problems.

That - and good reviews - was the reason I bought our Rigid Tile Saw. Made sure to get it registered and confirmed within the first 30 days.

Have not looked at their table saws but will take a gander.

Assuming it’s for a shop and you won’t be moving it around, I would strongly suggest a saw like the Delta Unisaw or Powermstic 66. A 30 year old used one will be a much better saw than any of those portables, and possibly cost less. A lot of them are 3 phase, but that a can be remedied with a new motor or phase converter.

Yup - that's my conundrum.

I'd like to have a full-sized cabinet table saw ... but space is an issue at the moment, with barely enough room where I'm working to whip a cat. Hopefully that will change later this year ... ;)

Before I made my reply to Mike, I looked at the local Craig's and there is a guy that has a 3hp Grizzly that is around 3 years old, asking $1900 (current version goes for around $3K with shipping and tax)

There's also a listing for a SteelCity 1.75hp "hybrid" saw (whatever that means) with an upgraded fence:

That one is a little more affordable as he's asking $640.

RS, I would agree with others here. Avoid a contractor type saw and go higher end. When building the house I bought a Craftsman 10” zip code cabinet saw with Besenmeyer fence. Zip code was a nick name for that model, no longer available. Not real high end, but what I could afford. I have built all my cabinetry over the years. If I had a complaint it would only be the cast iron top likes to rust in our environment. That said, it cleans up nicely. I did have to replace the belt once. My shop is rather tight on space so I have it mounted on castors enabling me to make any cut I needed.

Coffee is brewing. 19° with mostly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 33° with a mix of sun and clouds. Never made it to coffee get together. Started filling out some paper work for an IRA that has matured. Company sent 4 different pieces of information on how to setup account. Really upset me trying to figure which set of papers to fill out. Was suppose to drop papers off at office on my way to coffee get together. Ended up spending time at office figuring out which papers were the correct ones. We got it straightened out and faxed to main office. So many people out there that cannot even send out the correct paper work. No wonder banks are failing. Rest of the day was spent recovering from being upset. No plans for today yet.

I heard a covid expert on the radio say the best way to avoid long covid is not to get covid. Jeeeze do you think so.

Doctor: “Then don’t move like that.”

Good morning from Central Texas. (49 at 4am, headed to mid 60's). Another day grinding out what must be done. Incalculable issues for work and home per usual just trying to keep up. Swamped by need to do's, not enough time for want to do's. My usual mode lately. The local "big supplier" is YET AGAIN out of fertilizer! The prices had dropped about 300-350/Ton compared to last year and many bought out of rising price fears.

USAF Boeing E-7 Wedgetail (AEW&C) Airborne Warning and Control leading candidate to replace the aging E-3 Sentry AWACS. The E7-A Wedgetail to be built on the 737 frame and is already in service by the Royal Australian Air Force and others.

Wishing all a great day!

Good Morning!
God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly…).

28.9F, might get into the 40s, night not, but should be sunny. just added two blocks of oak to the woodstove.

Picked up the chainsaws after work but had chiro appointment after, and we took a route back from saw pickup that made it convenient to drop them off at the woodlot instead of stinking up Mrs’ Subaru while at the bone-cracker’s (and then dinner at Chinese Buffet after that). One that runs well, one that needs the fuel line replaced but runs well when you dump gas in the carb, and one for parts. Both runners need to have the recoil spring wrapped one additional turn (tropical for these saws of this vintage) and the pulley cleaned and lubed. I might even replace the pull rope while they are apart. . .

I am hoping that this little cold snap gives us the opportunity to collect a bit more walnut sap. I have been slowly evaporating the last batch on the woodstove, I have progressed from the big pot to the saucepan, and it is now down to about 1/2” and current box is about 19%, so by tonight we will have syrup! Probably about 5 ounces.

Getting ready to head back to the cube farm and help keep Uncle fed. The trend of negative end-of-year investment transaction totals continues, to the point where seeing anyone who is positive is noteworthy, and by any significant percentage is quite rare.

i hope everyone has a happy healthy safe blessed day!

good morning all
Wunderground says it's snowing out, but it's not....cloudy and flurries all morning.
cleaning lady coming this morning, need to pick up a little

on top of the TBN page I am seeing an ad now for Summit Tractors.
Here we go again, this time being sold by Tractor Supply and a few other box retailers.
Made in India, Mitsubishi engine, full featured with hydro and bucket, under 20k.
Nice green color, reminds me of the ones that sporting goods company tried to sell.
I don't think they are around any more.

I thought Massey, Kioti and TYM owned this part of the market but I guess someone thinks there's room for another brand.
I sure would not depend upon my local TSC to know much; remember my story about walking into one and asking for
three point hitch parts and the guy there asked what was a three point hitch?...

Now that supply is improving for other companies, think this might be a tough sell for an unknown brand.

36 outside this AM, heading to mid 40's. No rain expected, good thing, winds though in the 20's. Hope that dries things up some more.

Still hanging lights in the Milk House. These are designer lights, and while not an issue with wiring, positioning is everything. Looks like I get to spend more time in the attic today. Hopefully after today, the lighting and electrical is done.

Need to start thinking about plumbing and busting out more concrete. I do have a drain already in the bathroom. It's over 100 years old and no idea where it goes. I should bust out around it and maybe I can at least use it to snake a new water line into the building. But I am getting way ahead of myself.

RS, LS, PopaG, thanks for the info again on the table saws. I am looking for a upgraded homeowner special. Don't need it to do anything but rip window and door trims. And it has got to move about as there is always something going on somewhere other than the house.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe. Get or stay healthy as always.

Bird, you are a wonderful example of living long and well.
And if you worry about forgetting things, join the club, it affects most of us.
Bird, you are an inspiration. Keep it up.

am I now officially a geezer?

hmmm, better look that up, see who it offends.... ;)
nope, I'm ok
What age is a geezer?
a geezer, an old geezer (UK): a guy, a man, a dude; an old man, an elderly fellow. noun. The slang term geezer is used in the US exclusively to describe an old person. In British English, it is a slang term used to describe a man of any age.

So....one truly is only as old as one feels.

Good morning! Very light snow today, and still below freezing. But will go above later today, making the snow slick again.

Tried to get the tractor unstuck yesterday, using the pick up truck, but couldn’t get enough traction. Then I was going to use the ATV and it’s winch, but the stupid battery was down and it wouldn’t start! Anything that can go wrong will go wrong! Can’t find the key to the other ATV, so plugged in this one ATV overnight on the charger and will check now to see if it got charged up.

Can’t work on it today really because I am working all day at my day job!

May be a better day tomorrow.

Hmmm....wind advisory just posted. And winds are on the uptick all of a sudden.

Posting to 50mph.

Looks like more stick work will be in order, and I guess I better get the generator out, just in case.

I saw a mature eagle fly over the pasture this AM while doing the morning feeding chores. Great sight against a nice blue sky with some puffy clouds. Should have had the SO's camera with me. That lens though is a tough carry when working.

Well morning to all;
At least 12" of snow here already.
Starlink has quit working, and the cell tower is dropping 4g often which drops out the hotspot and it's 600 byte connection.
Lots of power outages around and lots of idiots out driving around and getting in accidents or stuck while trying to turn around because of tress or limbs or low wires in the roads.
I haven't decided when I'll start moving snow.

Stay safe and healthly.

Morning all, 35 cloudy and light snow to start while taking son to school.
Will stay above freezing, so all this snow is melting on contact.

Did not get anything done last night, and sleepless with the heavy winds that came through.

Be well,
