Good morning! 33˚ F.

Heavy rains and thunder came last night but the ice did not melt it DOUBLED. A big limb is broken on my only tree, an oak in the front yard. Before the ice storm I cut all the branches 6' from the ground, this morning they are all on the ground, weighted down with ice.

Lost internet for 6 hours this morning just came back on.

I think I will just use the hard wired connection to connect tv to the pc for now and lock out the WiFI on the TV. Will the AppleTV4 require Ethernet cable connection or will it work on WiFi? Any known security issues? Should allow easy screen mirroring from all apple phones iPads etc?
The AppleTV4 supports WiFi and Ethernet. I had buffering issues using the WiFi, and switched it over to Ethernet, but that may be more a function of my wonky network here than the AppleTVs fault.

I stick with Apple because when a security problem comes up, they're pretty good at realeasing quick patches to fix it. Anything I store on their cloud is encrypted on my device before it goes off site, so I feel comfortable about data security, too.

For mirroring, all you need to do is go to the Airplay icon on your device (looks like a rectangle balanced on the tip of a pyramid), click it, and you'll see a menu of AppleTVs that are set up for mirroring. Sometimes when I travel, I carry an old AppleTV so I can watch movies on the motel TV. I just hook the AppleTV to the HDMI port on the TV, bring up settings and join the motel WiFi, then go to my laptop and mirror the screen to the AppleTV/motel TV.

The AppleTV also has apps for Netflix. Amazon Prime, Paramount, Hulu, etc. so you can stream video from the internet with it, too. And it can access the hard drive on your Apple laptop or, if you have a NAS that supports AppleShare, audio/video files stored there as well. Yeah, it's all limited to the Apple ecosystem, but if that's the way you roll, it's pretty straight forward to get it going.

Good morning to all! Low of 19°, going up to 45° today, sunny and dry. Light breezes.

Not sure what I'm going to get into today, probably just putter a bit.

Had trouble falling asleep last night, then woke up about every 2 hours until dawn was starting..... fell asleep for another hour. Kinda dragging a bit.

RNG, glad you got a ride in. Nice to hear that the switch is pseudo working.... maybe is will start working once it "breaks-in" ?

Fritz, good to hear the wifey is getting around and nothing broken.

Doug, neat video of feeding the parrots.

Hard to believe all the ice in Texas. We saw a news clip of kids playing hockey in the ice coated street---- actually wearing ice skates!
Then clips of the roads with cars just sliding off onto the shoulder.... all in slow motion! Why would anyone try and drive on that stuff?

Everyone have a great day!

67°F and no rain.

Could be interesting day ahead. Need to get back on the laundry remodel. Neighbor has given me his aquaponic setup he quit using a few years ago. 4 tanks, a bunch of pvc piping, a pump, and I don’t know what. Some disassembly required. Whether this will take a hour or several I don’t know. Hoping this can be the start of my own hydroponics I set aside last year due to price of pvc.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

wish I could send some heat to Texas and melt that ice
Thank you and others for your good thoughts. Won’t be long until we will be hitting highs in the 99* plus range. I’m enjoying the cool weather while I can.

We have some broken limbs from ice but not too bad. Some who couldn’t say home got into accidents on the roadways. My condolences to them.

Hopefully most ice will be gone by noon today.

The tractor has gone to the shop, $250.oo flatbed charge to take it up there. Another 250 to bring it home. The line that is leaking is the one from the pump to the joystick controller. It is a hard line, but soldering wouldn't work and that is all I can do. 250 is cheaper than the $400.oo the dealer wants for freight (come and get it and return it again) or the $150.oo/hr from the time their mechanic leaves their shop (3 hours away) until the time he gets back, brazes the hole and then another return trip to install it + hydraulic oil.

It was snowing pretty good when I was out at noon, 1/4 mile visibility if I was lucky. The maximum speed limit on the roads I was on was 35 mph, so I wasn't too worried about the dump/town run.
Paid the tow truck guy for the north bound trip while I was there.

All I can tell you about Toyo GSI 5 snow tires on my Dodge Journey is they suck. Teats on bulls have better uses than those tires. I wish I could get Pro-Comp mud and snow tires in 19".

I feel for you guys that are suffering with the freezing rain, oh how I hate that stuff.

Stay safe all

39° and sunny
Spent time at the church building troubleshooting why the preacher couldn’t print. Ended up being firewall settings. Also got the copier now set as a printer. Took awhile to figure it out. One printer still loses it’s connection with the router.

Installing TurboTax now. I hate that as soon as it installs, it has to update itself, and you have no choice.

Just got back from a store run. Roads are free of ice but still have low hanging ice branches and broke limbs that I had to drive around. Most of these were on private properties. However, I suspect it will take a few years to clear the tree damage on the neighborhood trails.

The Bill Moran museum and black smith academy is now open. He is a very famous knife maker from Middletown Maryland.
He had his little shop for years on the road into Middletown until he passed away and now a foundation was established to preserve his legacy.

Mostly, These parrots have a different intestinal tract to other parrots. They are quite unique with feeding etc. There is a special food when weening and they eat mostly vegetables, example Sweet potato, beetroot, and all other veges and fruits. Guavas, watermelon, apples etc etc. No shortage of food here.

We wound up with several limbs in the yard broken from weight of ice. Fortunate for us, our son came and cut up the limbs and stacked them at the street, except for the few that I had him pull back for firewood. Wife made him some chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cookies while he was working. That was dessert for after the chicken enchiladas she made for lunch.

Good (Friday) morning. Overnight Low of 6C! (Where the 'heck' did Summer go?) ((I blame 'your' bloody groundhogs!!!)) It's presently 19.5C, slightly overcast and calm. There was 1.4mm in the gauge at 0900.

Just tootling along today... there're lots of little projects I could accomplish... but probably won't. :D It's the thought that counts, right?

Oh, and that leather pouch manufacturer that I received the FB advert from? After measuring the dimensions of my Wave+ multitool I decided to take them up on their 'offer' and ordered/bought a large pouch. It comes with a double snap closure and a dual (horizontal/vertical) belt loop. I'll let you know how it works out but it 'looks' like quality leather & workmanship for A$70.

That's about it, take care all.

Took about 3 hours, but I’m guess I probably have 95% what I need for my version of hydroponics plus a bunch of extra stuff.

IMG_0785.JPG

Tried to do minimal dismantling. Most likely I’ll come up with my own design based on this.

Now, my back is killing me. Ibuprofen and energy conservation rest of day

My newly augmented solar electric fully charged by 1106 AM 🤙🤙

Those of you looking at Mr Cool mini splits there are some reports about leaks developing at the outdoor unit (condenser) because of faulty soldering or vibration causing cracks.
Don't know how prevalent it is.

It is going down to -24°F tonight and a high to -9F tomorrow. I will plow the 6" we got after I get the tractor back tomorrow. It is all fixed up for now. In the spring it will go back up there for a full service all oils, all filters (fuel too) and valve adjustment.
I think I am going to acquire a dipstick heater for the hydraulic oil, IF I can find one that is small enough to go through the dipstick hole and long enough to actually get into the oil without bottoming out. Amazon has a couple of them, but I need to measure the dipstick I have first.

Good evening all. 29ºF for the start, overcast, light breeze. Light wind, overcast, periods of freezing rain in morning, rain in afternoon, high temp was 33ºF. Clean ashes and revive fire to start. Puttered till time to ride in garage again, no nap, did go out for dinner roads wet not frozen. They will refreeze tonight, hopefully they will dry tomorrow. If they do I can ride outside :)
David good to hear PV wired.
Bill hope you got to plow today.

David hope you got the aquaponic set up dismantled and moved and made some progress on laundry remodel.
Bill expensive to get tractor to repair shop. hope the shop gets it fixed the first time. Sorry about the snow tire ineffective in the snow. I don't like freezing rain either.

Mostly, no flack. One thing I have learned is often projects must be approached in stages. Laundry room is serviceable minus the utility sink. The new one will be functional before touching washer & dryer. If everything goes to plan, the washer and dryer will be swapped out and serviceable same day.
