Good morning!!!!

Good mid (Sunday) arvo. It was a brisk 7C this morning but quickly warmed(?) up to 14C by the time I headed off to Church. Clear sky, then the wind kicked up again.

The drive yesterday to pick up my Aunt was uneventful and straight forward. Elephant Pass is still a mess but passable. and I reckon it was faster returning home than getting there. Stopped for fish & chips and the local, floating, seafood shop on the St Helens waterfront... very nice.

Today we've simply been sitting, drinking Bundy rum & Coke and watching day two of the Australia/South Africa Test Cricket match.

That's about it, take care all.

Mostly
My rated battery capacity is 45.6 kw
My daily usage tends to be in high 20s.
My overnight runs about 40% of my high point state of charge, ie if 100%, about 60% when I check in morning. When sun is good what doesn’t go to charge actually provides direct power. In winter, days are shorter for charging, in summer that 40% drops to 30%.
I don’t run lower than 25% although warranty suggests 20% and technically they could run to 0.

While the day was a bit overcast and a few sprinkles I did get a few hours seat time with the flail.

Not as exciting as you guys out there moving snow, but shorts, tee, and slippahs and I was comfortable.

Good morning, low temp 25 and going to a high of 32°F. Wind SW 5 mph. Flurries, another inch or so.

Today is going to see me plowing again. Another 2" so far and it is still snowing good. I do have more cleanup to do around the house that I didn't finish off the other day, so I will get at that too.
When the well line was put in, I was 'up north' so didn't get to supervise that. They were told to put it 48"+ deep AND put 4" of styrofoam on top and down both sides of said line. 1" of styrofoam is equal to 1' of ground cover making the well line theoretically 8' deep.
There was no styrofoam left in my stash when I got home in the fall, so hopefully they did what they were told. The line hasn't froze up yet in the 15 years it has been in, but I usually leave lots of snow on top of it as extra insulation.

David, I had the T and shorts on while I was plowing and a little more.:ROFLMAO:

Went to bed last night at 9:30 and up at 2 for a p. Been up since then wide awake. I'm going back too bed now and hopefully score another 3 or 3 hours of nap time.

Stay safe all

Enjoying first cup of coffee. 24° with light snow this morning. Heading to 30° with continued light snow all day.
Could not get door lock programmed in to security system. More trouble shooting with that today. Last motion sensor came in yesterday. Will install it today.
Neighborhood Christmas party was very enjoyable. Ate to much. Sassy got a large box of homemade dog treats from friends.

PJ, good to hear job is going to be a good one. Plus not having to cross the river to get there.

Prayers and best wishes for everyone.

Good Morning All.

   / Good morning!!!! #161,006
28 going to 43. The International Space Station is flying by in a few minutes, so I guess I'll go out and wave.

PJ, glad the new job is looking good and that you made the decision to switch.

LS, hope you have a safe trip. You'll be in one of my favorite areas.

Kyle, that super nice your wife baking cookies for the youth prison. I bet they can use a little love at Christmas.

Don, doesn't that cold air feel good? :devilish:

Wag, I did a little driving around Tasmania on Google map this morning...beautiful place...why do they call it Elephant Pass?

Did a dump run and got in a nice maintenance hike yesterday. The river was high due to the recent rain. Came home and split firewood until dark. Had salmon for dinner...a good day.

Good day !

Here is still around -10 C (14F). Forecast says thaw should be here next week, so white Christmas is big "?"

Yesterday have made "rancho" run. Nice to be there, but 2,5 hours drive one end. Meet there wife's brother, had a long walk through our forests there. Have agreed to sell some lowest quality wood, practically bushes. Company will come in, take care of everything. And even pay some money. Few years back for this we had to pay to clean forest, now demand for energy wood is so high, they are paying (quite a lot IMHO) for complete $hit, if that is burning.

Have brought home Christmas tree for ourselves. It's always a option, to get one in the market, but to bring in one from our own forest is a kind of romantic 😁
It has to be full height of the room, actually has to tickle ceiling :)

I have planted there literally thousands of firs, but mines are not even close to naturally planted (I don't know how to say that, hope you got idea). "wild" ones are growing bigger, faster, bolder. I can't stop thinking about adopted and own kid. For "Mother Nature", ones I have planted are like "adopted". Somehow. Don't know why it's so

That little dog in picture is fun. Have seen in action cam that now he have friend - wild bunny. It comes in B-I-L garden, for frozen apples etc, and is dog is making friends with him 😁
Newer thought dog could be friend with bunny

Night was foggy and beautiful hoarfrost is outside
IMG_2424.jpeg

Actually I am wondering, is that the right word. Google offer few versions

FROST.jpg

Don, doesn't that cold air feel good? :devilish:
No, it's painful and thing like fingers and toes don't work well in the cold.

L4N is not human he must just be a bot in shorts.

Good morning! 24˚F same as Ron this morning!

Whipper had her run around in the back yard already and hurriedly came in, she will still expect her walk as soon as it get's light. BRRR.

Helo, Frost is the right word but we don't use Hoarfrost. There is Jack Frost, (the personification of frost), heavy frost, and just frost used to describe the same thing - Morning dew that has turned to ice.

edit: Hoarfrost is an English word meaning - a grayish-white crystalline deposit of frozen water vapor formed in clear still weather on vegetation, fences, etc.

We don't use that term in Texas is it used elsewhere in the US?

G'morning. 32F here....I believe our first freeze. Next week...deep freeze coming late week.

Helogabals, I understand perfectly. I enjoy your posts very much. I hope the romantic tree brings in the true spirit of Christmas for your family.

1 week of "sleeps" until Christmas. I hope all is well with Eric over in Shropshire.

Son and I will go to 9am church service. He will be an assistant acolyte. Wifey and daughter will go to 11am service.

Mostly, thanks for prayers for daughter. She has been having a good time at school the last few months, now that the punk is mostly out of the picture. Another guy is taking a shine to her, but she is telling him, "just friends for 6 months"....He seems to be a pretty good kid, from a good family, but I don't believe he has college aspirations yet. They are going to see Avatar sequel today. I told her "just friends, right?"....

The trailer last night waiting for the ornament hunters to take them to the back of the "Farm". I had to time the pic and take it when the tractor's emergency flashers illuminated the trailer. There are no lights on the trailer. 3/4 or 60 excited people filled the trailer right after this pic.

My FIL worked on the same plant! His name was Carl Frew. He was from NJ. Wouldn't that be a small world if you worked together!
I was involved in the initial Startups of Four Corners and the 1600 MW Mohave plant at Davis Dam in AZ. Because of my training in water chemistry the company got me into solving some of their water treatment problems during startup. Still have Indian jewelry and blankets from that time period.
The challenge at Mohave was that 20,000 gpm of water was taken from Colorado river but nothing could be discharged. Don't remember Carl Frew. Would be great to see a few pics from your trip. The AZ and NM area was very open during our time there late 1960's. We could drive anywhere in the desert. I am sure that is now much more restricted

Good Morning.
It’s 28 under a clear sky and going to the middle 30’s today.

Yesterday didn’t follow the plan, but Drew did stop by, and someone that borrowed a speaker from me back in May “for a week” actually returned it yesterday. Many unmet promises, and unanswered messages in the meantime, but ultimately did the right thing.

A neighbor with a vineyard asked me if I could cut some wine barrel racks down and weld them back together. I said sure, bring them over. They were made of 16ga 1-1/2” square tubing, I had to remove 6-1/2” from 4 cross pieces and weld them back together.
The trick was to get the cuts perfectly square and accurate so there were not big gaps to fill when welding them back together and keeping them square and plumb. I tried a cutoff wheel and a sawzall, neither worked very well. Decided it my excuse to buy a Makita cordless circular saw for cutting metal. I had seen that TSC had them in stock last week, and there is a store less than ten minutes from me. So I did what needed to be done. And it worked great. Got all the racks done much faster and better that the first one. And now I have a new saw!

Youngest son came by to visit as I was finishing up, followed by his sister and her two dogs. That pretty well finished the day.

Not much planned for today, a friend wants me to take him up in the little plane to take some pictures of a movie set near him where they are filming a movie on a nearby farm. That works out great, I had thought about taking it out yesterday, and never got to it.
Other than that, a few household chores, and on with the day.

It’s seems like shop Tetris is a regular game here as the seasons change and projects come and go. Definitely had to play a round to get the tractor and snow blade staged for the winter, but if I need it it sure will be nice to get into the cab in the heated shop, push the remote for the overhead door, and drive out into the snow staying warm and dry the whole time. (Except for the walk to the shop)

Morning Mates,
It was 30F here first thing this morning, presently 33F with forecast high of 44F, abundant sunshine.

Did more cleaning of the shop, found the CD player but can't find the power cord. The cord has a nonstandard plug where it connects to the unit. Unit is 17 years old and company is out of business... guess it is time for a new player. When my brother in law passed, I inherited all his tools. We just loaded up the truck and then dumped everything when we got to our house. He had one bedroom that was just full of tools. The room was so full of tools you couldn't close the door or see the bedroom window, the tools were piled so high. I am still sorting out what all I got. I have found 3 circular saws, 4 Dremel tools, 9 hand saws, 6 stud finders, 4 laser range meters, a full kit of Roybi battery powered tools, a full kit of Makita battery powered tools, a bunch of DeWalt battery powered tools. it just goes on and on.

Today is cut down a tree day. Our driveway is about 1/4 mile long, full of turns and is tree lined. One of the trees is so close to the driveway that the roof trusses won't fit past the tree, so it has to come down.

Hope everyone has a safe day.

   / Good morning!!!! #161,020
I went back to bed at 5 and just got up ten minutes ago.

Txdon, nope I am a people. I usually have on my shorts (knickers) and jeans over them, T-shirt and thermal shirt on top along with my French block heater (toque/beanie) on my head and muck-lucks/high rabbit lined boots on my feet. I don't put anything else on until the temperature gets below zero, then it is insulated bib overalls and socks. But remember I have a heated cab on the tractor. Only 'high' speed on the blower and that heater will put you/me out of it once she gets warmed up. The windshield opens for ventilation, but with the stack I made an intermediate setting on the hard rubber stops so I can still have it open about 2" and the heater on. I always use gloves on my hands when I need to move the back blade due to frostbite on all of my fingers back when I was younger and stupid.
Hoarfrost is just 'frost' up here that I know of. When I see it, I usually say that there is some frost on the pumpkin. Some years we get snow before Halloween.
Time to get my butt in gear, have breakfast and plow.
