Great birthday, dinner at Greene Turtle, visit from daughter, son in law and grandson, call from son and other grandsons. Went visit Mom, and we came home and had Island Creamery homemade ice cream.

Don, you don’t have to fully extend the hose if you don’t need it all, I’ve been using them for years.

Drew. It usually takes our crew about an hour and half to unload 84,800 birds. Two guys. Company has a policy that no chicks will be dumped above waist height. The way most of the guys do it they get dumped about knee high. Very few chicks are injured during dumping. As they have not eat or drank anything at that point and are pretty tough. They become more tender once they eat. 100-150 DOA is expected out of those. I’ve had more and less.

I always get asked about how many birds we loose. Usually by other farmers in the area or auditors. I have gotten into a habit of referencing percentages with the total number. 3-5% is expected death loss. Then I ask them how many feedlots out west would love to see those numbers. Most feedlots figure 10-15%. The farmers around here are mostly familiar with cattle and understand my comparison. Some are even surprised that our death loss is so low in the poultry industry. Expecting it to be closer to cattle.

Are you guys sitting down? Yesterday the mechanic sent me a really crumby video of the engine running in the Vanagon.

It runs !

Wow, wasn't sure I would live that long. :D

Fingers crossed for your smoke test.

More sun for us today. Yesterday some cloud came over and it settled at 29C/84F and that's plenty for me.

Spain and Portugal are popular holiday destinations for those wanting to get away from the UK's sometimes unpredicatable summers. This year many will be regretting that decision as the heatwave in europe is expected to break all records there - 47C/117F .

David, that's a good Bougainvillea tangle. It reminds me of a time when I let a neighbour use my Howard rotavator. It finally came back bound up with wire and what felt like half a mile of baler twine.

Crash Boom show time again to wake up to, thunderstorms booming away
Hopefully they will stop early enough today I can get something done this afternoon.

Have fire blight on one apple tree and I am negligent in not dealing with it, that's the plan today once the rain stops.
Need to cut off all the affected area, will really hack the tree, which is likely to come back next year.
Going to mix some copper into orchard mix and spray the whole orchard again, but it has to give me one day, just one day of dryness.
But for weeks, the ten day forecast has been rain every day. Downpours that just wash all that spray right off the trees.
I'd love to have three or four days of dry weather; it's the rainy damp weather that is causing the Blight to begin with.

Ka boom. Whole house shakes.

Good morning all, 67 going to 76 with an 80% chance of showers. Flash flood watch until noon Sat. Had a root canal 11 years ago and they put a temp. tooth on it. Doc cleaned up the top edge of it yesterday and said it is doing fine. When you want a crown on it let me know. Coming back I hit a down pour as bad as I have seen in many years. Mountain roads are not fun when it is dumping rain, but got home safe.

Have a great day, prayers sent. Ed
