I am learning more about drilling a stone wall than I ever knew. Here is one comment from yesterday:

his is easy for me since I already have the tools needed, but I would use a SDS plus with a core bit. Drill a 5/16 pilot hole all the way through and then core from both sides to prevent a huge blowout. That's going to run about $150.00 in bits and an an extension though. You can drill it with a regular SDS bit, but still drill a pilot hole and do it from both sides, unless it doesn't matter what the inside of the wall looks like.

SDS plus is fine. I wouldn't want to hole a SDS max horizontal for the few minutes it's going to take. SDS plus will do it fine, it just might take a minute or so longer.

Good morning! 76˚ with 96% humidity after the .15" rain last night that evaporated as quick as it fell. Whipper was more concerned over the thunder and did not want to be in her sleep room - utility room so we stay up with her till it passed. Today will be a mid 90s day. The best chance of rain is still Tuesday and Wednesday.

Are you putting in four or six batteries? That's an investment.
All the rvs have gone to lithium, with high quality chargers, they last a very long time.
Just never heard of them in golf carts though I know you can buy them that way new.
I have two year old burgundy Trojans that I hope last another five years.
Then I bet I'll be getting lithium too. Or whatever we have all switched too.

Good Morning!!!! 69F @ 5:00AM. Sunny. High 96F. Winds light and variable.

Pulled and dissected the oil filter from the red bike that suffered the dropped valve, and found lots of tiny aluminum particles. Then when I dropped the oil pan I found more aluminum dust and a kidney bean sized chunk of piston that was punched out by the errant valve head. Today I'll pull the cover off the oil pump to make sure it wasn't harmed, but that involves also pulling out the transmission, so it's an all day job. At least the temps have cooled off into the mid 90s.

Been using this Permatex hand cleaner for a while now, Drew, and it does a pretty good job. I also use a nail brush, and keep my nails trimmed pretty short, too.

I noticed that Friday the solar power system stopped selling power back to the utility after the weekly generator test. Emailed and texted the contractor, who eventually responded with what amounted to a shoulder shrug. Yesterday the system was back to normal with no apparent intervention by either one of us. Nice that it fixed itself; troubleing, too.

The lithium battery has changed the RV industry. When we had a motor home it used lead acid house batteries and had a 6.5 kw Onan generator. Now with lithium batteries and solar power the generators are not installed very often any more

Good Morning
It’s 78 and only going to make it into the low 80’s under mostly overcast skies. Showers likely this afternoon, but humid and sticky all day.

Yesterday went by quickly, but I don’t recall getting much accomplished. Got the magnetic compass changed in the little airplane, the old one was leaking. But not much else done other than tinkering with recording from Friday, and going out to lunch.

Today I might do a little welding project for Drew on his Gravely, but nothing confirmed.

My go to hand cleaner in the shop is good old Lava soap in the sink and a brush.

I'm a golf cart tech and online store owner. My company recently became a Lithium battery dealer for Eco Battery company. Today we are installing a battery from Uno Battery company in one of the R&D carts on the ranch where we test and evaluate all types of cart upgrades. I have been watching the development of golf cart lithium applications for the past 2 years. In that time I've seen that a single 36 or 48 volt battery unit is superior to several 12v batteries in series. These big singles have built in battery management systems which insure safe charging and discharging operation. This management system is critical to the expected 8-10 yr life and safe operation of the battery.
It's important to get a battery that can handle amperage draw of a golf cart.
Our tests are done in carts with bigger tires, bigger speed controllers, and motors as are typical of recreation or farm use carts. So far the Eco Battery has performed flawlessly with it's industry highest maximum amperage draw of 300 amps peak. The Uno battery has a max amp draw (MAD) of 200 amps. I'm curious to see if we can live with this limit or not. Uno was nice enough to give us this battery to test. The test cart has a 14 hp motor and bigger knobby tires and a 400 amp control which we will program to the battery MAD.
The cost is about 2.5k for a good system with charger and monitor.
PS> I forgot to mention the Uno battery is using some different materials in their construction which they say increases amperage storage and performance. Battery technology is still advancing.

Forgot to mention last Thursday was anniversary. The Good Lord blessed me 21 years ago. Wifey and I went for Mexican food, margaritas, and some DQ ice cream for dessert. I was stuffed.

It is still hot here and very humid. Pushing 100F daily. I drove 5 miles to the other side of town and got caught in a rain shower. Tried to throw a lasso around cloud and drag it home, but couldn't throw it high enough...

I mostly took it easy yesterday. Tried to start 2 stroke tiller that I had running a couple of months ago...she didn't want to start. I believe it is a priming issue. Strike 1. Left it for cooler weather to work on later. Later tried to start my inlaws (FIL passed away end of May) Snapper. Nothing happened when I turned the key. No click nothing. Probably an electric problem. Strike 2. Left it for cooler weather. Then I tried to get an older Honeywell room air cleaner going again. Motor/fan wouldn't turn on. I had to destroy it to get it apart. Definitely not meant to be serviceable. Capacitor was good, switch seemed to work. Since I destroyed it getting it apart, I just chunked it in the trash. strike 3. Decided I better go in and watch some TV.

Ended up watching a movie I had never watched. Casino Royale 007 movie. Pretty good movie from back in 2006. They seem to find some beautiful women to play parts in those movies somehow.

Inlaws coming over today. Pray for me. Mostly all good, but.... At least we are having good

Getting ready for church. Today my son and I will do the slides part.

So my son started 7th grade football practice last week. Never had played a down in his life, nor ever payed attention. I asked him if any of the other kids had played Pop Warner and he said about 15. By Thursday, he was complaining that he didn't like being yelled at by the coaches. I had to explain what negative re-enforcement training is, and that's just how coaches are. (He's a perfectionist and does not like to make mistakes, much less in front of other people) He told my wife he doesn't think he's cut out for it. I would prefer he played other sports, so I'm neutral. But I told him, he chose this, and I didn't want him to be a quitter. So, this is humbling for him...a good thing. He came home Friday afternoon and I asked, do you still wanna quit? He said no.

Back in June, I showed him how if he would put water in the bird bath, that we would have many birds come visit. He has religiously been keeping water in it since. He's giving it a good cleaning this morning before church. In late July he asked to put up a feeder, and now he's keeping it full, without my prompting (which is a small miracle). He loves animals. He came home excited yesterday, the neighbors cat had one of "his" cardinals in it's mouth. He said he frightened the cat, which dropped the bird, and it flew off. He hung around outside to make sure the cat left it alone long enough for it to recover hopefully. He yells loudly at our cat if it gets near the bird bath. I'm really proud of him providing fresh water for the birds during this drought.

Good morning! Storms overnight, kept the dog (so me too) awake. 3" and still raining. Crops need it though...
Hopefully it dries later today so I can finish the roof repair tomorrow (another lift rental day). May trim some trees too, if things go better than planned. Murphy's law applies here often.

Today we are having a picnic with one of our kids at the Penn Mar Park on the Appalachian Trail. A beautiful little park. parks-pen-mar
It has an outlook point overlooking a vast area of southern PA and it is close to our farm. Our farm is also located next to the Appalachian Trail but further south of Penn Mar.

Sharing my work experience and being a mentor to one of our kids gives me a great deal of satisfaction. Having worked in a management role for a major engineering/ construction company for more than 40 years gives me a lot of insight in how to advise her in managing teams to get the best performance. Unlike some of my other kids she actually listens and follows my advice and as a result she is excelling in her job

well I played hooky this morning. The lure of grease and paint...
so now I have red paint to clean off after I just got the grease off.

got it all soaked down in 303, then sanded, primed and painted a little of the mower deck where paint was missing.
Not sure it doesn't look worse now but at least it's not rusting. I do not like rust.
Chipped paint is one thing, badges of honor. But steel or iron rusting to me is like watching a hive of termites chewing on your house.

and since I hadn't gotten Popgadget's email before I started spraying paint, I now have a wet paint machine that needs to dry for awhile, so it will have to wait
for the Popgadget touch. I'm still waiting for the right fuel filter to come in, then pretty much done.

on youtube there are wonderful videos of folks being reunited with their pets after long absences.
Been three years for this old girl, plus it didn't go cleaned up to my friend, since I was in the hospital at the time.
So part of the mess I'm cleaning up is mine from NC. If it wasn't in my will to leave to this friend, who just has it a little early, so I told him he didn't
need to knock me off to get it..., it would have been sold. My friend and next door neighbor in NC trailered the Gravely up to my friend in PA, and also trailered my
Kubota UTV to brother in VA. So the only old piece of iron I have left is the Gravely and I know where it is, happy in a farm garage in NJ.
Just nice to work on something older...

Very nice day yesterday. The Baumkuchenfarm was very interesting and the Baumkuchen with vanilla ice cream was delicious. Great to spend time with old friends. Even longer time than anticipated. By the time we got home no way was I about to start mowing. Maybe today, wx permitting.

Otherwise nothing special planned for the day. Not sure I’m ready to challenge Sophie to H&F. She got to sharpen her skills with her sister in Az.
